text: "
\r\n Aqueous zinc (Zn)‐ion capacitors (AZICs)
have addressed considerable attention due to their high energy density, low toxicity,
and rich abundance of Zn metal. However, the development of ultra‐long cycle life
and high energy density AZICs is often hindered by the lack of adequately optimized
active carbon (AC) electrodes and compatible electrolytes. Herein, high‐performance,
free‐standing AC electrodes for AZICs are derived from sustainable precursors—adenine
and D‐ribose—using magnesium chloride hexahydrate as an activation agent via a
eutectic template strategy. Furthermore, an aqueous hybrid electrolyte tailored
to the designed AC electrodes is developed, significantly enhancing the stability
and cycle life of AZICs. The resulting AZIC achieves a high specific capacity
of 164.39 F g\r\n −1\r\n at

a magnificently long cell life of over 50 000 cycles with nearly 94.5% capacitance

The pouch cell assembly also demonstrates comparable specific capacitance and
energy density to the coin cell, underscoring the potential of large‐scale applications
of AZICs.\r\n
"

text: 'In 1921, John Wisdom (1904–1993) became a member of Fitzwilliam House, Cambridge,
where he read philosophy and attended lectures by G. E. Moore, C. D. Broad, and
J. E. McTaggart. He received his BA in 1924, after which he worked for five years
at the National Institute of Industrial Psychology. From 1929 to 1934, Wisdom
was a Lecturer in the department of logic and metaphysics at the University of
St Andrews and a colleague of G. F. Stout. After the publication of his book Interpretation
and Analysis (1931) and five articles on “Logical Constructions” in Mind (1931–3),
Wisdom became a Lecturer in Moral Sciences in Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity
College. This gave him the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of Wittgenstein’s
philosophy. Since nothing by Wittgenstein but Tractatus appeared in print for
decades, Wisdom’s publications of these years were—mistakenly—read as portents
of the new ideas of Wittgenstein himself. The publication of Wittgenstein’s Philosophical
Investigations in 1953 brought with it, among other things, the fall of Wisdom’s
popularity. '

text: "
Abstract
\r\n
While being a promising
approach for the treatment of infections caused by drug-resistant, pathogenic
bacteria, the clinical implementation of phage therapy still faces several challenges.
One of these challenges lies in the high strain-specificity of most bacteriophages,
which makes it necessary to screen large phage collections against the target
pathogens in order to identify suitable candidates for the formulations of personalized
therapeutic phage cocktails. In this work, we evaluate the potential of quartz
crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) to identify and detect
phage infection and subsequent lysis of bacteria immobilized on the surfaces of
the QCM-D sensors. Using lytic Escherichia coli phage
T7 as a model, we show that phage infection of E. coli
cells results in various unique alterations in the behaviors of the frequency
(Δf) and dissipation (ΔD)
signals, which are not observed during exposure of the E. coli
strain to non-infectious Bacillus subtilis phage phi29
at similar concentration. To aid future phage screening campaigns, we furthermore
identify a single measurement parameter, i.e., the spread between the different
overtones of ΔD, that can be used to detect phage-induced
lysis. For T7 infection of E. coli, this is achieved
within 4 h after inoculation, including immobilization and growth of the bacteria
on the sensor surface, as well as the completed phage propagation cycle. Given
the commercial availability of highly automated multichannel systems and the fact
that this approach does not require any sensor modifications, QCM-D has the potential
to become a valuable tool for screening medium-sized phage collections against
target pathogens.
\r\n
\r\n Graphical

text: 'To predict and prevent uneven tire wear in addition to a reduction of overall
tire wear, it is essential to estimate not only the total amount of wear but also
how the wear is distributed across the tire width. This requires knowledge of
the frictional power distribution in the tire contact patch, which is the basis
for calculating tire wear using a wear law. Usually, only 3D structural tire models
can generate such distributed contact results. However, they involve high computational
costs and cannot be used for comprehensive optimization of a vehicle’s suspension
system with respect to tire wear characteristics. Hence, this contribution presents
a methodology on how to accelerate the prediction of the frictional power distribution
using two components: The structural tire model is replaced by an empirical tire
model that on its own is not able to generate distributed contact results. Therefore,
an artificial neural network is trained to predict the desired contact results
from the kinematic quantities calculated by the empirical tire model. In the initial
training phase, both components are fitted to data generated by the original complex
tire model. After training, the empirical tire model can replace the structural
tire model in vehicle simulations, resulting in significantly shorter calculation
times. The simulation results are fed into the artificial neural network, which
predicts the frictional power distributions over the tire width with negligible
additional effort. Overall, the methodology reduces calculation time for the prediction
of tire wear based on virtual test drives to approximately 25% of the time needed
when using structural tire models.'

in somatosensory signals affect the ability of effectively coordinating multimodal
information pertaining to the postural state during movement. Therefore, this
study aimed to investigate the impact of a compliant surface on cortico-cortical
causal information flow during multi-joint compound movements. Fifteen healthy
adults (7 female / 8 male, 25.9 ± 4.0 years) performed 5 × 20 repetitions of bodyweight
squats on firm and compliant surface. Motor behavior was quantified by center
of pressure (CoP) displacements, hip movement and the root mean square of the
rectus femoris activity. Using source space analysis, renormalized partial directed
coherence (rPDC) computed subject-level multivariate effective brain connectivity
of sensorimotor nodes. Bootstrap statistics revealed significantly decreased medio-lateral
CoP displacement (p < 0.001), significantly increased
velocity of medio-lateral hip motion (p < 0.001)
as well as significantly lower rectus femoris activity (p < 0.01)
in the compliant surface condition. On the cortical level, rPDC showed significantly
modulated information flow in theta and beta frequencies for fronto-parietal edges
(p < 0.01) only during the concentric phase of the
movement. The compliant surface led to increased difficulties controlling hip
but not center of pressure motion in the medio-lateral plane. Moreover, a decreased
activation of the prime movers accompanied by modulations of effective brain connectivity
among fronto-central nodes may point to altered demands on sensorimotor information
processing in presence of sensory noise when performing bodyweight squats on compliant
surface. Further studies are needed to evaluate a potential benefit for athletic
and clinical populations.
"

in modernen Kommunikationsnetzen.
(gewichteten) Graphen G := (V, E, ℓ), der durch k kürzeste Wege separiert werden
Unser Schema berechnet
Label der Größe Oe(kϵ−2) und wird in Oe(kϵ−3) Zeit im HYBRID-Modell, und Oe(kϵ−3·
HD) Zeit in CONGEST.

text: This thesis considers algorithmic solutions to problems that arise in the
theoretical study of modern communication networks, such ast he Internet. The
thesis is divided into two main parts. In the first part of this thesis, we show
how to construct an overlay network of degree O(log n) and diameter O(log n) in
O(log n) time starting from an arbitrary weakly connected graph. We assume a synchronous
communication network in which nodes can send messages to nodes they know the
identifier of, and new connections can be established by sending node identifiers.
If the initial network’s graph is weakly connected and has constant degree, then
our algorithm constructs the desired topology with each node sending and receiving
only O(log n) messages in each round in time O(log n), w.h.p. Since the problem
cannot be solved faster than by using pointer jumping for O(log n) rounds (which
would even require each node to communicate Ω(n) bits), our algorithm is asymptotically
optimal. Additionally, we show how our algorithm can be used to efficiently solvegraph
problems in the novel HYBRID model. Motivated by the idea that nodes possess two
different modes of communication, we assume that communication of the initial
edges is unrestricted, whereas only polylogarithmically many messages can be sent
over edges that have been established throughout an algorithm’s execution. For
an (undirected) graph G with arbitrary degree, we show how tocompute connected
components and a spanning forest in O(log n) time, w.h.p. Furthermore, we show
how to compute an MIS in timeO(log ∆ + log log n), w.h.p., where ∆ is the initial
degree of G. In the second part of the thesis, we consider the problems of computing
compact routing tables and low-diameter decompositions for a (weighted) graph
G := (V, E, ℓ) that can be separated through k shortest paths. This class of graphs
includes planar graphs, graphs of bounded treewidth, and graphs that exclude a
fixed minor Kr. We present algorithms in the CONGEST and the novel HYBRID communication
model that are competitive in all relevant parameters:• For a given parameter
ϵ > 0, we compute a routing scheme with stretch 1 + ϵ. Our scheme computes
labels of size Oe(kϵ−2)and is computed in Oe(kϵ−3) time in the HYBRID model and
Oe(kϵ−3· HD) time in CONGEST. Here, HD denotes thenetwork’s hop diameter.• Given
a parameter D > 0, our low-diameter decomposition algorithm divides the graph
into connected subgraphs of strongdiameter D. An edge e ∈ E of length ℓe has endpoints
in different subgraphs with probability O(ℓe·log(k log n)/D). The decomposition
can be computed in Oe(k) time in the HYBRID model and O˜(kHD) time in CONGEST.Broadly
speaking, we present distributed and parallel implementations of sequential divide-and-conquer
algorithms where we replaceexact shortest paths with approximate shortest paths.
In contrast to exact paths, these can be efficiently computed in the distributed
and parallel setting. Further, and perhaps more importantly, we show that instead
of explicitly computing vertex-separators to enable efficientparallelization of
these algorithms, it suffices to sample a few random paths of bounded length and
the nodes close to them. Finally, we present a SetCover algorithm in the Beeping
model. Our algorithm runs in O(k3) time and has an expected approximation ratio
ofO(∆3/k log2 ∆). The value k ∈ [3, log ∆] is a parameter that lets us trade runtime
for approximation ratio similar to the celebrated algorithm by Kuhn and Wattenhofer
[PODC ’03]. This algorithm can then be extended to effieciently solve the DominatingSet-problem
in a graph’s D-neigborhood in a distributed fashion.

text: Stress plays a crucial role in thin films and layered systems, and thus significantly
influences the material's electrical, mechanical and (nonlinear) optical responses.
Despite lithium niobate's wide applicability as a nonlinear optical material,
the impact of mechanical stress on its nonlinear optical properties is not well
characterized. In this work, we systematically study both experimentally and theoretically,
the nonlinear optical responses of thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) single crystals.
Compressive and tensile stress is applied in our experiment using a piezodriven
strain cell. We then record the second-harmonic-generated (SHG) response in back-reflection
geometry, and compare these results to theoretical modeling using density functional
theory (DFT). Both methods consistently reveal that uniaxial stress induces changes
of the nonlinear optical susceptibility of certain tensor elements on the order
of up to 1 pm/(V GPa). The exact value depends on the tensor element that is addressed
in our SHG analysis, on the crystal orientation, and also whether using compressive
or tensile stresses. Furthermore, a lowering of the crystal symmetry when applying
stress along the <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><a:mi>x</a:mi></a:math>

crystallographic axes is observed by the appearance of new nonlinear optical tensor
elements within the strained crystals.

text: "In this work, we present a complete characterization of the covariance\r\nstructure
of number statistics in boxes for hyperuniform point processes. Under\r\na standard
integrability assumption, the covariance depends solely on the\r\noverlap of the
faces of the box. Beyond this assumption, a novel interpolating\r\ncovariance
structure emerges. This enables us to identify a limiting Gaussian\r\n'coarse-grained'
process, counting the number of points in large boxes as a\r\nfunction of the
box position. Depending on the integrability assumption, this\r\nprocess may be
continuous or discontinuous, e.g. in d=1 it is given by an\r\nincrement process
of a fractional Brownian motion."

text: Non-rotationally symmetrical joints can have different properties that can
be controlled by the joint orientation. This hypothesis is tested using a Reuleaux
triangle joint geometry. A tool design is carried out, followed by a numerical
sensitivity analysis of the tool geometry. Initial tools were manufactured for
experimental investigations and then adapted based on the findings of the sensitivity
analysis. The joints are characterized by micrographs, 3D scans, shear tensile
tests, head tensile tests and three-point bending tests and compared with a round
geometry. The analysis confirms the hypothesis. Thus, joints with adaptable properties
can be produced with one tool set.

text: Abstract. Mechanical joints are traditionally analyzed through destructive
micrograph analysis, which may compromise internal geometry and morphology, as
evidenced by radial cracks in semi-tubular self-pierce riveting. In contrast,
industrial X-ray computed tomography (XCT) offers a non-destructive method for
component diagnosis, providing volumetric insights without damaging the sample
and enabling dimensional measurement. The DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center
TRR 285 is exploring XCT's application in assessing mechanical joinability across
various joining processes and materials, particularly in multi-material systems
like steel-aluminum joints. XCT faces challenges in accurately capturing multi-material
compositions, leading to artifacts that complicate interface detection. This research
aims to validate XCT for joint investigations, yielding quantitative characteristics
that surpass those from traditional micrograph analysis.
