text:
ABSTRACT
This study addresses the role of
national culture in shaping hackathon teams' ideation outcomes. Drawing on the
innovation and creativity literature and Schwartz’ theory of cultural value orientations,
we propose that hierarchical values decrease the quality of ideas that teams develop
over the course of a hackathon and that intellectual autonomy and mastery improve
it. Using archival data, including pitch presentations from an international hackathon
and data on cultural value orientations, we compiled a sample of 308 teams to
investigate the influence of cultural value orientations and employed linear mixed‐effects
regression analysis to test our hypotheses. We found that hierarchical cultural
values are negatively associated with the quality of ideas, which suggests that
hackathon teams that operate in such cultures suffer from a “liability of hierarchy.”
We also found that teams from societies that emphasize mastery of the natural
and social environment are more likely than other teams are to develop high‐quality
ideas to tackle the (grand) challenges that hackathons address. We found no relationship
between intellectual autonomy and idea quality. The study findings support the
notion that culture manifests in hackathon teams' behavior and so shapes the quality
of ideas they develop, thus laying the foundation for success or failure.

text: "The rapid growth of 3D printing technology has transformed a wide range of
industries, enabling the on-demand production of complex objects, from aerospace
components to medical devices. However, this technology also introduces significant
security challenges. Previous research highlighted the security implications of
G-Codes—commands used to control the printing process. These studies assumed powerful
attackers and focused on manipulations of the printed models, leaving gaps in
understanding the full attack potential.\r\n\r\nIn this study, we systematically
analyze security threats associated with 3D printing, focusing specifically on
vulnerabilities caused by G-Code commands. We introduce attacks and attacker models
that assume a less powerful adversary than traditionally considered, broadening
the scope of potential security threats. Our findings show that even minimal access
to the 3D printer can result in significant security breaches, such as unauthorized
access to subsequent print jobs or persistent misconfiguration of the printer.
We identify 278 potentially malicious G-Codes across the attack categories Information
Disclosure, Denial of Service, and Model Manipulation. Our evaluation demonstrates
the applicability of these attacks across various 3D printers and their firmware.
Our findings underscore the need for a better standardization process of G-Codes
and corresponding security best practices.\r\n"

text: "
Abstract
\r\n
The benefits of physical
activity are undisputed. However, adverse events can occur in rare cases, particularly
during high-intensity or prolonged exercise. During physical activity, at-risk
patients can experience major cardiac events, whereas adverse events affecting
the musculoskeletal system are more common but less severe. A sports preparticipation
evaluation (PPE) for apparently healthy adults is designed to detect at-risk individuals
and prevent potentially fatal events. This guideline for conducting PPEs was developed
by consensus among 16 medical societies and sports associations and is based on
previously published guidelines and consensus papers. Sports medicine physicians
and potential participants were also surveyed to assess the recommendations’ content,
feasibility, and implementation. On the basis of the 20 recommendations developed
and agreed upon by the abovementioned entities, PPE comprises individuals’ personal,
family, and sports histories, as well as a physical examination. The need for
additional examinations (e.g., laboratory parameters, echocardiograms, or stress
tests) is determined on the basis of the PPE findings. This approach’s feasibility
in various regions, including resource-limited settings, and the extent to which
it prevents adverse or potentially fatal events, should be examined in future
research.
"

\
72 patients with SRC and 72 matched healthy controls
were included. All participants performed computerised testing of neurocognitive
function, device-assisted balance testing and objective evaluation of vestibulo-ocular
function (video head impulse and dynamic visual acuity test). Clinical symptom
clusters (headache/migraine, anxiety/mood, fatigue, cognitive, vestibular, ocular)
were determined for each patient using the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool, 5th
edition symptom evaluation. Independent t-tests or Mann-Whitney U tests were calculated

investigating the whole cohort, significant differences between patients with
SRC and control subjects were found in one parameter of balance testing (sway
velocity double-firm), with lower performance in the SRC group (p<0.001, r=0.345).
The number of symptom clusters assigned to the SRC patients ranged from 0 (no
definite cluster) to 6 (all clusters), and all clusters were frequent in the investigated
cohort. Patients with vestibular, cognitive and fatigue symptom clusters demonstrated
significantly lower performance in balance testing compared with SRC patients
without those clusters (p<0.001 to p=0.005, r=0.368–0.439). Additionally, SRC
patients presenting with symptoms of the fatigue cluster demonstrated significantly
worse performance in vestibulo-ocular testing compared with SRC patients without
the fatigue cluster (p=0.006, d=0.781).
\r\n
\r\n

\
SRC patients presented with variable numbers and qualities
of clinical symptom clusters. Some subjective clusters were associated with abnormal
objective tests of other clusters (vestibular, cognitive and fatigue with abnormal
balance; and fatigue with abnormal vestibulo-ocular performance). Clinical symptom
clusters and their overlap should be considered when examining patients with SRC.
\r\n

\
Repetitive head impacts due to heading in soccer may bear
the potential to induce brain changes. To investigate how brain development is
affected by heading, effects of heading exposure on neurocognitive and vestibular
performance in adolescent soccer players were prospectively examined.
\r\n

\
In this longitudinal cohort study, male and female high-level
youth soccer players of different ages were enrolled in two seasons. Age-matched
athletes of other ball sports were included as controls. Before and after each
season, neurocognitive performance (6 domain scores), vestibulo-ocular reflex,
dynamic visual acuity, and postural control (sway velocity) were objectively assessed
in all athletes. Every soccer training and match during the observation period
was videotaped to analyze individual heading exposure. Associations between heading
frequency (total, in duels, >20 m flight distance) and pre- to post-changes
were investigated via Spearman correlation.
\r\n
\r\n

soccer and 51 control athletes (9-19 years) participated. Neurocognitive scores
and sway velocity significantly improved in each season in soccer and control
athletes. There were no associations between total heading numbers and changes
in any parameter. Over the first season, the more headers played in duels (r =
-0.255, 95%CI = -0.474 to -0.006, p = 0.04) and from >20 m distance (r = -0.299,
95%CI = -0.510 to -0.055, p = 0.02) the less psychomotor speed improvement occurred.
In the second season, improvements in reaction time were significantly smaller
with higher numbers of headers played in duels (r = 0.375, 95%CI = 0.043 to 0.632,
p = 0.02) and from >20 m distance (r = 0.359, 95%CI = 0.025 to 0.621, p = 0.03).</jats:p>\r\n

\
Potential high-impact headers may have affected neurocognitive
improvements, exhibiting small to moderate effects. Therefore, more high-impact
headers may be more important to consider than solely the overall heading exposure
in discussions about adverse effects in youth soccer.
\r\n
"

text: '
By analyzing the physics of multi-photon absorption in superconducting
nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs), we identify physical components of
jitter. From this, we formulate a quantitative physical model of the multi-photon
detector response that combines the local detection mechanism and local fluctuations
(hotspot formation and intrinsic jitter) with the thermoelectric dynamics of resistive
domains. Our model provides an excellent description of the arrival-time histogram
of a commercial SNSPD across several orders of magnitude, both in arrival-time
probability and across mean photon number. This is achieved with just three fitting
parameters: the scaling of the mean arrival time of voltage response pulses, as
well as the Gaussian and exponential jitter components. Our findings have important
implications for photon-number-resolving detector design, as well as applications
requiring low jitter, such as light detection and ranging (LIDAR).
'

text: The present OPEN Edirom digital edition of Goethe’s Faust presents the literary
and musical text of the work as it was possibly performed at its premiere (Friday,
March 2, 1832) and consecutive performances under the direction and participation
of Carl Seydelmann (directing the production and playing the role of Mephistopheles)
and Peter Joseph von Lindpainter in the Stuttgart Hoftheater in 1832 (March 11,
May 28, October 12) and 1833 (May 14, December 27), in accordance with the surviving
sources, i.e., the original theatre material preserved in the Württemberg State
Library in Stuttgart (D-Sl). This material constitutes a nearly complete autograph
source package consisting of text adaptation (an autograph by Seydelmann incorporated
into a copy of the print edition published by Cotta in Tübingen in 1830) and corresponding
music (two volumes with autograph scores by Lindpaintner).

text: 'The tribological behavior of thermo‐responsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)
(PNIPAAm)‐based microgels is investigated for use as water‐dispersible lubricant
additives. Two types of microgels are synthesized using a surfactant‐free emulsion
polymerization method: MG0, consisting of pure PNIPAAm with a volume phase transition
temperature (VPTT) of ≈33 °C, and MG16, consisting of PNIPAAm copolymerized with
hydrophobic tert‐butyl acrylamide, exhibiting a lower VPTT of around 23 °C. Swelling
and lubrication performance are evaluated at 20 and 40 °C. Both microgels significantly
reduce friction and wear compared to water alone. At 20 °C, MG0 remains fully
swollen and provides effective wear protection through hydrated microgel lubrication.
MG16, being near its VPTT, exhibits partial collapse and slightly higher wear.
At 40 °C, MG16 demonstrates improved wear resistance, attributed to enhanced film
compaction in the collapsed state. Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy–energy‐dispersive
X‐ray spectroscopy confirm that carbon‐rich tribofilms are formed via tribochemical
reactions. MG0 produces more graphitic films, while MG16 generates amorphous carbon
structures. These findings highlight the tunability of microgel composition for
designing adaptive, water‐based lubricants for temperature‐sensitive applications.'

text:
Support is a vital resource at every stage of development throughout
the lifespan. In the mother-child relationship, the exchange of support is subject
to change in relation to the tasks and framework conditions of the current phase
of life. While values and norms typically include social expectations, attitudes
summarize individual thoughts or feelings. During young adulthood and midlife,
attitudes are particularly important for the mutual support between mothers and
their adult children when there are no practical framework conditions, such as
care needs, that necessitate support. This study uses social exchange theory to
examine the mediating role of felt obligation and perceived mutual reciprocity
as important attitudes in the well-known relation between mothers and their adult
children receiving and giving support. The sample consisted of 598 German adults
(aged 20–49, 55.2% female) and 577 mothers (aged 40–87) of these adults; both
perspectives were taken into account. The results from the parallel mediation
analyses, in which instrumental and emotional support were considered separately,
showed a mediating effect of felt obligation on the instrumental support of adult
children for their mothers. The emotional support received and given by the adults
to their mothers was mediated by felt obligation and perceived mutual reciprocity.
The received and given instrumental and emotional support of the mothers to their
adult children was mediated by perceived mutual reciprocity. The relevance of
the adults' and mothers' different attitudes regarding support later in life is
discussed.
