  text: '
Abstract
The amoebot model
(Derakhshandeh et al. in: SPAA ACM, pp 220–222. <jats:ext-link xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"
    ext-link-type="doi" xlink:href="10.1145/2612669.2612712">https://doi.org/10.1145/2612669.2612712,
2014) has been proposed as a model for programmable matter consisting of tiny,
robotic elements called amoebots. We consider the reconfigurable
circuit extension (Feldmann et al. in J Comput Biol 29(4):317–343.
    <jats:ext-link xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" ext-link-type="doi"

2022) of the geometric amoebot model that allows the amoebot structure to interconnect
amoebots by so-called circuits. A circuit permits the
instantaneous transmission of signals between the connected amoebots. In this
paper, we examine the structural power of the reconfigurable circuits. We start
with fundamental problems like the stripe computation problem
where, given any connected amoebot structure S, an
amoebot u in S, and some
axis X, all amoebots belonging to axis X
through u have to be identified. Second, we consider
the global maximum problem, which identifies an amoebot
at the highest possible position with respect to some direction in some given
amoebot (sub)structure. A solution to this problem can be used to solve the skeleton
problem, where a cycle of amoebots has to be found in the given
amoebot structure which contains all boundary amoebots. A canonical solution to
that problem can be used to come up with a canonical path, which provides a unique
characterization of the shape of the given amoebot structure. Constructing canonical
paths for different directions allows the amoebots to set up a spanning tree and
to check symmetry properties of the given amoebot structure. The problems are
important for a number of applications like rapid shape transformation, energy
dissemination, and structural monitoring. Interestingly, the reconfigurable circuit
extension allows polylogarithmic-time solutions to all of these problems.
'

immer häufiger in Erscheinung tritt.

demands on environmental compatibility and complexity require new strategies in
the development and production of functional components. Consequently, a combined
approach from the areas of design, material science, and manufacturing is mandatory,
in order to meet the requirements. Reducing the number of parts, using lightweight
materials and applying hybrid components with a multimaterial mix are possible
solutions. Nevertheless, conventional joining operations like welding or riveting
are reaching their limits in terms of material utilization, load-bearing capacity
as well as versatility of the process. Thus, innovative and versatile joining
by forming operations and process combinations are focus of current research.
In this context, the innovative process of orbital forming had been investigated
as a joining by forming operation to manufacture load-adapted hybrid functional
components. By tilting of one tool component during the process, a radial material
flow is generated, allowing the crimping of the two joining partners. Nevertheless,
the load-bearing capacity in axial direction could be identified as limiting factor
for a possible application. Therefore, the aim of this investigation is the development
of a fundamental process understanding on the influence of a novel geometrical
adaption of the joint on the resulting load bearing capacity. The influence of
varying geometrical proportions of the joint on the quality is evaluated, considering
the form filling, the geometrical properties of the components as well as the
maximum transmittable axial load. As joining partners, the dual-phase steel DP600
and the aluminum alloy EN AW-5754 with a thickness of 2.0 mm are used.

  text:
Abstract
Most properties of solid materials
are defined by their internal electric field and charge density distributions
which so far are difficult to measure with high spatial resolution. Especially
for 2D materials, the atomic electric fields influence the optoelectronic properties.
In this study, the atomic‐scale electric field and charge density distribution
of WSe2 bi‐ and trilayers are revealed using an emerging
microscopy technique, differential phase contrast (DPC) imaging in scanning transmission
electron microscopy (STEM). For pristine material, a higher positive charge density
located at the selenium atomic columns compared to the tungsten atomic columns
is obtained and tentatively explained by a coherent scattering effect. Furthermore,
the change in the electric field distribution induced by a missing selenium atomic
column is investigated. A characteristic electric field distribution in the vicinity
of the defect with locally reduced magnitudes compared to the pristine lattice
is observed. This effect is accompanied by a considerable inward relaxation of
the surrounding lattice, which according to first principles DFT calculation is
fully compatible with a missing column of Se atoms. This shows that DPC imaging,
as an electric field sensitive technique, provides additional and remarkable information
to the otherwise only structural analysis obtained with conventional STEM imaging.

text: This study presents a numerical approach using a 3D finite element model to
quantify the remaining clamp load of a plastic nut joint after a specific time.
The viscoelastic relaxation of a thermoplastic nut, which is predominantly screwed
on a welding stud, is described by a material card using Prony Series. Prony Series
are derived from experimental Dynamical Mechanical Analysis with different moisture
and fiber contents of the thermoplastic. Since plastic nuts usually do not have
preformed threads, the increased temperatures and resulting stresses from the
thread-forming process are considered in the simulation. Firstly, the FE model
is verified by substrate stress relaxation tests. Subsequently, experimental clamp
load measurements with miniature compression load cells verify the clamp load
prediction. Finally, the developed model is used to analyze the clamp load distribution
    within the threads

  text:
Similar to bulk metal forming, clinch joining is characterised by
large plastic deformations and a variety of different 3D stress states, including
severe compression. However, inherent to plastic forming is the nucleation and
growth of defects, whose detrimental effects on the material behaviour can be
described by continuum damage models and eventually lead to material failure.
As the damage evolution strongly depends on the stress state, a stress-state-dependent
model is utilised to correctly track the accumulation. To formulate and parameterise
this model, besides classical experiments, so-called modified punch tests are
also integrated herein to enhance the calibration of the failure model by capturing
a larger range of stress states and metal-forming-specific loading conditions.
Moreover, when highly ductile materials are considered, such as the dual-phase
steel HCT590X and the aluminium alloy EN AW-6014 T4 investigated here, strong
necking and localisation might occur prior to fracture. This can alter the stress
state and affect the actual strain at failure. This influence is captured by coupling
plasticity and damage to incorporate the damage-induced softening effect. Its
relative importance is shown by conducting inverse parameter identifications to
determine damage and failure parameters for both mentioned ductile metals based
on up to 12 different experiments.

  text:
Vaccination willingness against COVID-19 is generally perceived as
low. Moreover, there is large heterogeneity across and within countries. As a
whole, Germany has average vaccination rates compared to other industrialized
countries. However, vaccination rates in the 16 different German federal states
differ by more than 20 percentage points. We describe variation in vaccination
rates on the level of the 400 German counties using data on all vaccinations carried
out until December 2022. Around 52-72% of that variation can be explained by regional
differences in demographic characteristics, housing, education and political party
preferences. We find indications that the remaining part may be due to differences
in soft factors such as risk aversion, trust in the German government, trust in
science, and beliefs in conspiracy theories regarding the origins of the Corona
virus. We conclude that improving the trust in science and the fight against conspiracy
theories may possibly be effective tools to improve vaccination rates and effectively
    fight pandemics.

  text: "
Abstract
\r\n
Purpose
\r\n
    \
Research supports physical activity as a method to heighten
stress resistance and resilience through positive metabolic alterations mostly
affecting the neuroendocrine system. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) has
been proposed as a highly effective time-saving method to induce those changes.
However, existing literature relies heavily on cross-sectional analyses, with
few randomised controlled trials highlighting the necessity for more exercise
interventions. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effects of HIIT versus
an active control group on the stress response to an acute psychosocial stressor
in emotionally impulsive humans (suggested as being strong stress responders).
\r\n
    \
\r\n
Methods
\r\n
    \
The study protocol was registered online (DRKS00016589)
before data collection. Sedentary, emotionally impulsive adults (30.69 ± 8.20
    y) were recruited for a supervised intervention of 8 weeks and randomly allocated
    to either a HIIT (n = 25) or a stretching group (n = 19,
acting as active controls). Participants were submitted to a test battery, including
saliva samples, questionnaires (self-efficacy- and perceived stress-related),
visual analogue scales (physical exercise- and stress-related), and resting electroencephalography
and electrocardiography assessing their reaction to an acute psychological stressor
(Trier Social Stress Test) before and after the exercise intervention.
\r\n
    \
\r\n
Results
\r\n
    \
HIIT increased aerobic fitness in all participants, whereas
stretching did not. Participants from the HIIT group reported perceiving exercising
more intensively than those from the active control group (ƞp2 = 0.108,
p = 0.038). No further group differences were detected.
Both interventions largely increased levels of joy post-TSST (ƞp2 = 0.209,

    perceived levels of general self-efficacy (ƞp2 = 0.120,

    \
Conclusion
\r\n
This
study suggests that 8 weeks of HIIT does not change the psychoneuroendocrine response
to an acute psychological stress test compared to an active control group in emotionally
impulsive humans. Further replications of supervised exercise studies highly powered
with active and passive controls are warranted.
\r\n
"

  text: '
Clinching is a mechanical joining technology, in which a mainly
form-fit joint is created by means of local cold forming. To characterize the
load-bearing behavior of such joints, they are typically analyzed destructively,
for example by tensile-shear tests in combination with metallographic sections.
However, both the initiation and progress of failure can only be described to
a limited extent by this method. Furthermore, these tests allow only limited conclusions
about clinch points under in-service loading. More purposefully, clinch points
can be analyzed nondestructively by combining in-situ computed tomography (CT)
and transient dynamic analysis (TDA). The TDA continuously measures the dynamic
behavior of the specimen and indicates failure events like crack initiation, which
then can be evaluated thoroughly by stopping the test and performing a CT scan.
To qualify the TDA for this task, it is necessary to link the observed damage
behavior with specific dynamic characteristics. In this work, the complementation
of in-situ CT and TDA is investigated by testing a clinched single-lap tensile-shear
specimen made of aluminum. The testing procedure is stepwise: at certain displacement
levels, the specimen is investigated by in-situ CT and TDA. While the in-situ
CT provides the location, extent, and development of the failure phenomena, the
TDA uses this information to evaluate the dynamic signal and detect relevant frequency
ranges, which indicate damage events. The results demonstrate, that failure initiation
and progression can be analyzed efficiently by combining both measuring systems.
The TDA reliably detects relevant signal changes in the monitored frequency band.
By means of in-situ computed tomography, the corresponding failure phenomena can
be described in detail, enhancing the understanding of the load-bearing and deformation
behavior of clinch points. The concatenation of characteristic signal changes
and observed failure phenomena can henceforth be transferred to analyze complex
structures during operation nondestructively by TDA.
'

  text:
Lightweight design by using low-density and load-adapted materials
can reduce the weight of vehicles and the emissions generated during operation.
However, the usage of different materials requires innovative joining technologies
with increased versatility. In this investigation, the focus is on describing
and characterising the failure behaviour of connections manufactured by an innovative
thermomechanical joining process with adaptable auxiliary joining elements in
single-lap tensile-shear tests. In order to analyse the failure development in
detail, the specimens are investigated using in-situ computed tomography (in-situ
CT). Here, the tensile-shear test is interrupted at points of interest and CT
scans are conducted under load. In addition, the interrupted in-situ testing procedure
is validated by comparing the loading behaviour with conventional continuous tensile-shear
tests. The results of the in-situ investigations of joints with varying material
combinations clearly describe the cause of failure, allowing conclusions towards
    an improved joint design.

  text:
Abstract. In lightweight constructions, clinching represents a cost-effective
solution, in which joints are produced by local cold forming of the joining parts.
Clinching phenomena are typically evaluated using destructive testing methods.
While these methods influence the clinch point’s state, in-situ computed tomography
(in-situ CT) is able to explore the clinching process with a specimen under load.
Here, the path-controlled clinching process is interrupted at certain displacement
levels and the specimen is scanned by CT while remaining in a stationary state.
These interruptions are always accompanied by settling effects reducing the reaction
force. Therefore, in this work, the influence of these interruptions on the force-displacement
behavior during clinching and on the final clinch point’s geometric properties
    is investigated.
