abstract:

$a$ and $b$ are real numbers. When $b>0,$ we compute the\r\nlimiting root distribution
$\\mu_{t}$ of $P_{t}^{N}$ as $N\\rightarrow\\infty.$ We\r\nshow that $\\mu_{t}$
is the push-forward of the limiting root distribution of\r\n$P^{N}$ under a transport
map $T_{t}$. The map $T_{t}$ is defined by flowing\r\nalong the characteristic
curves of the PDE satisfied by the log potential of\r\n$\\mu_{t}.$ In the special
case of repeated differentiation, our results may be\r\ninterpreted as saying
that the roots evolve radially \\textit{with constant\r\nspeed} until they hit
the origin, at which point, they cease to exist. For\r\ngeneral $a$ and $b,$ the
transport map $T_{t}$ has a free probability\r\ninterpretation as multiplication
of an $R$-diagonal operator by an $R$-diagonal\r\n\"transport operator.\" As an
application, we obtain a push-forward\r\ncharacterization of the free self-convolution
semigroup $\\oplus$ of radial\r\nmeasures on $\\mathbb{C}$.\r\n We also consider
the case $b<0,$ which includes the case of repeated\r\nintegration. More complicated
behavior of the roots can occur in this case."

text:
Abstract. Force-displacement measurements and macrosections are commonly
used methods to validate numerical models of clinching processes. However, these
ex-situ methods often lead to springback of elastic deformations and crack-closing
after unloading. In contrast, the in-situ computed tomography (CT) can provide
three-dimensional images of the clinching point under loading conditions. So far,
the quantity of elastic springback that causes measuring deviations between in-
and ex-situ measurements is not determined. In this paper, a method is described
to quantitatively compare the results of in-situ CT, ex-situ CT and CT scans of
cut specimens, which are prepared for macrosectioning, among each other. The method
is applied to a single-lap shear test of two clinched aluminum sheets. Here, the
test is conducted to specific process steps, then the specimen is CT scanned in-situ
(during loading) and ex-situ (after unloading). Subsequently, the specimens are
cut for macrosectioning and CT scanned. Finally, the outer contours and the interfaces
of cross section images are determined by digital image analysis and the deviations
over the clinching point between ex- and in-situ methods are calculated.

text:
Abstract
The biexciton‐exciton emission cascade
commonly used in quantum‐dot systems to generate polarization entanglement yields
photons with intrinsically limited indistinguishability. In the present work,
it focuses on the generation of pairs of photons with high degrees of polarization
entanglement and simultaneously high indistinguishability. It achieves this goal
by selectively reducing the biexciton lifetime with an optical resonator. It demonstrates
that a suitably tailored circular Bragg reflector fulfills the requirements of
sufficient selective Purcell enhancement of biexciton emission paired with spectrally
broad photon extraction and twofold degenerate optical modes. The in‐depth theoretical
study combines (i) the optimization of realistic photonic structures solving Maxwell's
equations from which model parameters are extracted as input for (ii) microscopic
simulations of quantum‐dot cavity excitation dynamics with full access to photon
properties. It reports non‐trivial dependencies on system parameters and use the
predictive power of the combined theoretical approach to determine the optimal
range of Purcell enhancement that maximizes indistinguishability and entanglement
to near unity values, here specifically for the telecom C‐band at 1550 nm.

text: Spatial modes of light have become highly attractive to increase the dimension
and, thereby, security and information capacity in quantum key distribution (QKD).
So far, only transverse electric field components have been considered, while
longitudinal polarization components have remained neglected. Here, we present
an approach to include all three spatial dimensions of electric field oscillation
in QKD by implementing our tunable, on-a-chip vector beam decoder (VBD). This
inversely designed device pioneers the "preparation" and "measurement" of three-dimensionally
polarized mutually unbiased basis states for high-dimensional (HD) QKD and paves
the way for the integration of HD QKD with spatial modes in multifunctional on-a-chip
photonics platforms.

text: '
Abstract
Mathematical modelling emphasizes
the connection between mathematics and reality — still, tasks are often exclusively
introduced inside the classroom. The paper examines the potential of different
task settings for mathematical modelling with real objects: outdoors at the real
object itself, with photographs and with a 3D model representation. It is the
aim of the study to analyze how far the mathematical modelling steps of students
solving the tasks differ in comparison to the settings and representations. In
a qualitative study, 19 lower secondary school students worked on tasks of all
three settings in a Latin square design. Their working processes in the settings
are compared with a special focus on the modelling steps Simplifying and Structuring,
as well as Mathematizing. The analysis by means of activity diagrams and a qualitative
content analysis shows that both steps are particularly relevant when students
work with real objects — independent from the three settings. Still, differences
in the actual activities could be observed in the students’ discussion on the
appropriateness of a model and in dealing with inaccuracies at the real object.
In addition, the process of data collection shows different procedures depending
on the setting which presents each of them as an enrichment for the acquisition
of modelling skills.
'

text:
Abstract
A simulation based on the frequency‐domain
lattice Boltzmann method (FreqD‐LBM) is employed to predict the shifts of resonance
frequency, Δf, and half bandwidth, ΔΓ, of a quartz
crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM‐D) induced by the adsorption
of rigid spheres to the resonator surface. The comparison with the experimental
values of Δf and ΔΓ allows to estimate the stiffness
of the contacts between the spheres and the resonator surface. The contact stiffness
is of interest in contact mechanics, but also in sensing because it depends on
the properties of thin films situated between the resonator surface and the sphere.
The simulation differs from previous implementations of FreqD‐LBM insofar, as
the material inside the particles is not included in the FreqD‐LBM algorithm.
Rather, the particle surface is configured to be an oscillating boundary. The
amplitude of the particles' motions (displacement and rotation) is governed by
the force balance at the surface of the particle. Because the contact stiffness
enters this balance, it can be derived from experimental values of Δf
and ΔΓ. The simulation reproduces experiments by the Krakow group. For sufficiently
small spheres, a contact stiffness can be derived from the comparison of the simulation
with the experiment.

text:
Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) is
a well-established technique for studying soft films. It can provide gravimetric
as well as nongravimetric information about a film, such as its thickness and
mechanical properties. The interpretation of sets of overtone-normalized frequency
shifts, ∆f/n, and overtone-normalized shifts in half-bandwidth, ΔΓ/n, provided
by QCM-D relies on a model that, in general, contains five independent parameters
that are needed to describe film thickness and frequency-dependent viscoelastic
properties. Here, we examine how noise inherent in experimental data affects the
determination of these parameters. There are certain conditions where noise prevents
the reliable determination of film thickness and the loss tangent. On the other
hand, we show that there are conditions where it is possible to determine all
five parameters. We relate these conditions to the mathematical properties of
the model in terms of simple conceptual diagrams that can help users understand
the model’s behavior. Finally, we present new open source software for QCM-D data
analysis written in Python, PyQTM.

text:
Abstract
Functionalized porous carbons are
central to various important applications such as energy storage and conversion.
Here, a simple synthetic route to prepare oxygen‐rich carbon nitrides (CNOs) decorated
with stable Ni and Fe‐nanosites is demonstrated. The CNOs are prepared via a salt
templating method using ribose and adenine as precursors and CaCl2·2H2O
as a template. The formation of supramolecular eutectic complexes between CaCl2·2H2O
and ribose at relatively low temperatures facilitates the formation of a homogeneous
starting mixture, promotes the condensation of ribose through the dehydrating
effect of CaCl2·2H2O to covalent frameworks,
and finally generates homogeneous CNOs. As a specific of the recipe, the condensation
of the precursors at higher temperatures and the removal of water promotes the
recrystallization of CaCl2 (T
< Tm = 772 °C), which then
acts as a hard porogen. Due to salt catalysis, CNOs with oxygen and nitrogen contents
as high as 12 and 20 wt%, respectively, can be obtained, while heteroatom content
stayed about unchanged even at higher temperatures of synthesis, pointing to the
extraordinarily high stability of the materials. After decorating Ni and Fe‐nanosites
onto the CNOs, the materials exhibit high activity and stability for electrochemical
oxygen evolution reaction with an overpotential of 351 mV.

text: '
'

text:
We present the fabrication of strain-free quantum dots in the In0.53Ga0.47As/In0.52Al0.48As-system
lattice matched to InP, as future sources for single and entangled photons for
long-haul fiber-based quantum communication in the optical C-band. We achieved
these quantum dots by local droplet etching via InAl droplets in an In0.52Al0.48As
layer and subsequent filling of the holes with In0.53Ga0.47As. Here, we present
detailed investigations of the hole morphologies measured by atomic force microscopy.
Statistical analysis of a set of nanoholes reveals a high degree of symmetry for
nearly half of them when etched at optimized temperatures. Overgrowth with 50–150 nm
In0.52Al0.48As increases their diameter and elongates the holes along the [01̄1]-direction.
By systematically scanning the parameter space, we were able to fill the holes
with In0.53Ga0.47As, and by capping the filled holes and performing photoluminescence
measurements, we observe photoluminescence emission in the O-band up into the
C-band depending on the filling height of the nanoholes.
