Neben einem direkten Effekt sozialer Kognitionen auf die soziale Akzeptanz wird ein Mediationseffekt des Sozialverhaltens auf diesen Zusammenhang geprüft. Untersucht wurden 35 Kindergartenkinder im Alter von vier bis sechs Jahren. Zur Erfassung des sozialkognitiven Entwicklungsstandes bearbeiteten die Kinder Theory of Mindund Perspektivenübernahme-Aufgaben; ihre soziale Akzeptanz wurde durch Peernominationen sowie eine Erzieher-Beurteilung der Integration der Kinder in die Gruppe erhoben. Das prosoziale und aggressive Sozialverhalten der Kinder wurde durch die Erzieherinnen eingeschätzt. Es zeigte sich ein direkter Zusammenhang zwischen dem sozial-kognitiven Entwicklungsstand und der sozialen Akzeptanz der Kinder. German adults (N = 902) between the ages\r\nof 20 and 86 completed the Network of Relationships\r\nInventory (Furman and Buhrmester 1992). Participants felt\r\nmost supported by their partners, followed by their children, mothers, friends, fathers, and siblings. Conflicts were\r\nmore frequently found within the family (especially with\r\nthe partner, followed by children, mothers, fathers, and\r\nsiblings) than with friends. Except for partner relationships,\r\nboth conflict and support decreased with age. Concerning\r\nrelative power within their relationships, partners, mothers,\r\nand siblings are seen as equals, friends and especially\r\nfathers are perceived as more powerful, and children as\r\nless, yet increasingly powerful. Auf der Grundlage von Arbeiten zum Textverstehen sowie zu Perspektivenübernahme und Theory of Mind wurde ein positiver Zusammenhang zwischen Perspektivenübernahmefähigkeit und Textverstehensleistung erwartet. Diese Hypothese wurde an zwei Stichproben unterschiedlichen Alters geprüft: In der ersten Studie beantworteten 37 Vorschulkinder Fragen zu vorgelesenen Geschichten sowie Perspektivenübernahme-Aufgaben. Zwischen den Bereichen fand sich eine deutliche positive Korrelation, die bei\r\nKontrolle der Intelligenz erhalten blieb. An der zweiten Studie nahmen 69 Grundschulkinder der\r\ndritten Jahrgangsstufe teil, die Texte lasen und Aufgaben dazu wie auch zur Perspektivenübernahme bearbeiteten. In dieser Stichprobe fand sich der erwartete Zusammenhang ausschließlich\r\nin der Teilgruppe der guten Leser. Er blieb bei Kontrolle der Intelligenz erhalten. Using an individuation framework, two German samples of 224 and 105 participants\r\naged between 21 and 47 years were administered the Network of Relationships Inventory, the\r\nEmotional Autonomy Scale and the Authority Reciprocity Questionnaire. Factor analyses resulted\r\nin a measurement model valid for adult children, their mothers and fathers. The model includes\r\nconnectedness (with emotional and cognitive aspects) as well as individuality (assessed as power\r\nsymmetry). Connectedness decreased with age. Symmetry in father–child relationships increased over\r\ntime, while mother–child relationships were perceived to be symmetrical by early adulthood.\r\nChild–mother relationships were more connected than child–father relationships. After ideas of individuation were introduced to the USA by German emigrants, such as Erik Erikson and Peter Blos, a second generation of American researchers brought the issue to the fore during the 1980s. Since then, German research has taken up the topic. Current lines of German research resonate with contemporary American research (e.g., Allen, Smetana), but also explore possible extensions of the theory. Following Youniss, individuation was assessed via its dimensions of both connectedness and individuality. A sample of 349 participants between 20 and 47 years of age were given questionnaires containing scales from the Network of Relationships Inventory among others. Individuation predicted satisfaction, intimacy, and conflict. The combination of connectedness and individuality did not have any impact on relationship quality. The starting point for the studies included in this special issue is the assumption that the same can be said for European countries. Thus, a comparison of characteristics of emerging adulthood between different European countries was performed. In this special issue, contributions of scholars from five different European countries are taken as representative of different regions: Spain, Italy, Finland, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The efforts of the research are twofold. The first is to look at how the traditional markers of adulthood have changed and how the concept of adulthood is seen in the different countries. The second is to highlight the influence that the entrance into the working world and romantic partnership have on emerging adults and to detect the impact of the timing of entering adulthood on identity achievement. A sample of 102 German students attending their last year at the university (M = 25.44 years, SD = 2.61) completed a questionnaire. Among others, scales from the Network of Relationships Inventory and symptom checklists were administered. Four years later, 51 employed participants of the initial sample were contacted again. During the transition from university to work life, well-being and the relationship with their parents improved. Following a typological approach, two groups of emerging adults were revealed by means of cluster analyses. Well-being in one group increased, whereas well-being in the second group decreased. Herrmann & Grabowski, 2003). Wir nehmen an, dass die Stärke der Ist-Soll-Diskrepanz die Häufigkeit der Verbalisierung von Soll- und Ist-Informationen in der sprachlichen Äußerung beeinflusst. Bei starkem Ziel werden mehr Soll-Informationen erwartet als bei schwachem Ziel. In zwei Rollenspielexperimenten wurden Äußerungen Jugendlicher in Konfliktgesprächen mit der Mutter erhoben, wobei die Stärke der Ist-Soll-Diskrepanz, operationalisiert über die Bedeutsamkeit des Zieles in einer Konfliktsituation, variiert wurde. Um Einflüssen der Kommunikationssituation nachzugehen, wurde das erste Experiment mündlich (N = 53), das zweite schriftlich (N = 131) durchgeführt. Insgesamt wurden schriftlich mehr Soll-Informationen verbalisiert. Im mündlichen Rollenspielexperiment fanden sich wie erwartet bei starkem Ziel mehr Soll-Informationen als bei schwachem Ziel. While the selection of issues addressed is not meant to be comprehensive, the chapter focuses on conceptualizations and findings of particular relevance: Individuality and relatedness, the active role that parents and their offspring play in shaping their relationship, the importance of a biographical perspective on relationship development, and contextual influences on child-parent relationships. The chapter concludes with consideration of directions for future research. Child-parent relationships are special. This is obviously true on an individual level. For example, children see their parents as outstanding people - at least up until the transition to adolescence. Likewise, some parents are infatuated with their children and expect much of their sons and daughters, sometimes to the point of overtaxing their abilities and patience. At the same time, child-parent relationships, in general, have features that give them a particular significance. As compared to other types of relationships, bonds between parents and their offspring are of an extremely long-standing nature. Moreover, when parents and children interact, aspects of socialization and education tend to play a more important role than is the case among siblings, friends, or romantic partners. Finally, it has to be recognized that child-parent relationships represent an intergenerational constellation. Relationships between children and parents surpass most other relationships in duration. Two hundred eighty-five students from German high-track (i.e., university bound schools 6th, 9th, 12th grade), undergraduate and graduate students completed the respective scales of the Network of Relationships Inventory (Furman & Buhrmester, 1985). Relations with friends were more symmetrical and had a better socio-emotional quality than relations with parents. Still, increases in relative power in relations with parents were accompanied by low absolute levels of conflict. A symmetrical distribution of power in the family was not reached before the end of the third decade of life. To explore the influence of the entry into worklife on close relations, an additional subsample of 55 working young adults was compared with the participating university students. Despite slight differences in age-related patterns of intimacy, similarities prevailed. Zugleich postuliert der individuationstheoretische Ansatz Beziehungsdyamik, insbesondere im Bereich der Abgrenzung. Empirische Evidenzen sprechen darüber hinaus für Veränderungen auch im Bereich der Verbundenheit, die oft in Zusammenhang mit biographischen Übergängen beobachtet worden sind. In Weiterführung vorliegender Arbeiten, mit denen vor allem private Übergänge untersucht wurden, ist die Transition in den Beruf Gegenstand dieses Artikels. Dazu wurden Studierende und Berufstätige im frühen Erwachsenenalter sowie nach Möglichkeit beide Eltern befragt. Es nahmen 130 junge Erwachsene (Alter 21 bis 34 Jahre), 114 Mütter (40 bis 73 Jahre) und 89 Väter (43 bis 75 Jahre) teil. Abgrenzung und Verbundenheit wurden jeweils anhand eines Fragebogens hinsichtlich emotionaler, kognitiver und behavioraler Merkmale erfasst. In den Angaben der Kinder, nicht aber in denen der Eltern, zeigen sich Unterschiede zwischen Studierenden und Berufstätigen, die sich als weniger verbunden und stärker abgegrenzt beschreiben. Es finden sich Generationen- und Geschlechtsunterschiede, letztere besonders zwischen Müttern und Vätern.
