[{"status":"public","abstract":[{"text":"In dynamic environments, product management plays a key role in aligning innovation, customer needs, and strategic decision-making. Digitalization offers significant opportunities to enhance this role by enabling data-driven insights for improved customer and product understanding—yet its successful implementation requires a fundamental transformation. Based on a systematic literature review, this study synthesizes key advantages, challenges, and design fields that shape this transformation. The results highlight performance benefits across business, product, process, and decision-making dimensions, while also uncovering barriers rooted in strategy, organization, people, and technology. To address these barriers, critical enablers and conditions for success are identified. Four overarching design fields provide orientation for structuring digitalization efforts and guiding organizational change in industrial practice. Yet, aligning their business with the principles of the CE is a challenging task. Utilizing a systematic literature review (SLR) and thematic analysis a framework for the business transformation towards the CE has been developed. It considers the dimensions product, business strategy, corporate management, and value chain. The circular business transformation (CBT) framework includes incentives for entering the CE, fields of action, design options, and associated challenges. For researchers, it provides a comprehensive overview and serves as a basis for in-depth studies of each dimension of CBT. This transition requires adapting business models, product design, and management while integrating processes such as reverse logistics. Digital technologies play a crucial role by enabling data generation, processing, and analysis, optimizing production, and reducing resource use. However, many companies face knowledge gaps regarding how to implement these technologies effectively for CE. As a result, more and more companies are trying to participate in the platform economy. However, the successful development and operation of a digital platform is associated with significant challenges, which leads to 85% of all platforms failing. A core challenge is the dynamic nature of the platform economy, with varying strategic objectives at different stages in the platform lifecycle. Platform operators must continuously monitor platform progress and adjust their strategy.\r\nUtilizing action research in the real-world platform project AI Marketplace, we developed a lifecycle-oriented performance management approach for digital platforms in B2B markets. It enables platform operators to reflect on their position in the platform lifecycle, derive relevant strategic objectives, and monitor them with suitable key performance indicators. Hence, allowing them to secure the long-term success of their platform business.","lang":"eng"}]}]
