  text: Modern companies often face various challenges in concept development of products
    or systems. Design engineers prepare initial concepts as 3D models. These are
    then simulated by computational engineers. If requirements are not met, this necessitates
    an iterative process that runs between the design and computation departments
    until a valid concept is created. Design methods such as topology optimization
    are often used here. The upcoming result is then attempted to be adapted to certain
    manufacturing processes. These iteration loops can sometimes take a very long
    time, since the model construction and structural optimization generate large
    computational efforts. The present work shows on an example a methodical approach,
    which represents a first proof of concept, to solving this problem, including
    a description of methods and techniques, as well as possible problems in a detailed
    analysis concerning training data for neural networks and their abstraction capabilities.
    It is evident that additional research work needs to be conducted for further
    utilization in order to address all arising questions.

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Complex research problems are increasingly
    addressed by interdisciplinary, collaborate research projects generating large
    amounts of heterogeneous amounts of data. The overarching processing, analysis
    and availability of data are critical success factors for these research efforts.
    Data repositories enable long term availability of such data for the scientific
    community. The findability and therefore reusability strongly builds on comprehensive
    annotations of datasets stored in repositories. Often generic metadata schema
    are used to annotate data. In this publication we describe the implementation
    of discipline specific metadata into a data repository to provide more contextual
    information about data. To avoid extra workload for researchers to provide such
    metadata a workflow with standardised data templates for automated metadata extraction
    during the ingest process has been developed. The enriched metadata are in the
    following used in the development of two repository plugins for data comparison
    and data visualisation. The added values of discipline-specific annotations and
    derived search features to support matching and reusable data is then demonstrated
    by use cases of two Collaborative Research Centres (CRC 1368 and CRC 1153).</jats:p>

  text: Progressive digitization throughout the entire product data life cycle requires
    a more sensitive handling and understanding of data within engineering processes.
    Regarding engineering research data, the aim is to implement the FAIR data principles
    (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) to guarantee the post-usability
    of research data. To ensure the quality of data throughout the entire research
    process a methodical approach had been developed. Based on the quality categories
    Intrinsic, Representative, Contextual and Available, the related quality dimensions
    are considered differentiated along the research data life cycle and presented
    in a concept. As a use case, this concept is carried out on a tensile test with
    documentation of results in a research data management system.

    of digital technologies in product manufacturing leads to changes in engineering
    processes and requires new approaches to data management. An important role belongs
    to the processes of organizing the collection, storage and reuse of research data
    obtained and used in the process of product, system or technology development,
    taking into account the FAIR data principles. This article describes a Research
    Data Management System for the organization of documentation and measurement requests
    in the research and development of new oxygen-free production technologies.</jats:p>

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Manually exploring the solution space
    for different variants of a product for a given set of requirements is ineffective
    regarding product development time and adaptation to dynamic customer requirements.
    Variant generation coupled to optimization algorithms offers possibilities to
    search the solution space in an automated way. This paper provides a framework
    to build a generative parametric design environment for functional assemblies
    by implementing analysis as well as synthesis methods in computer-aided tools.
    The procedure is presented using the example of a coffee machine.</jats:p>
