These shall be capable of bringing AM into their businesses. The concept furthermore includes approaches for redesigning current available parts and helps to estimate the economic implications of the use of the technology. Design/methodology/approach – The approach starts to discuss general economic aspects for the successful use of AM. While describing the introduction of new technologies into existing businesses, the importance of an appropriate part selection for AM is pointed out. A methodology for a part selection process is presented, and the different criteria are developed. An approach for a redesign of the selected parts, including the gathering of requirements, is given based on different sample parts. A variation of criteria to include measures for product piracy is highlighted. Findings – The methodology has proven applicability in several research and industry projects in aerospace applications. Independent part selections from experts analyzed within a project of the European Space Agency had a 90 per cent overlap with the results. It allows companies with only basic AM knowledge to start a part screening for applicable AM candidates in their own company with a reasonable effort. Originality/value – The methodology for the redesign process helps to identify the main functions of the products targeted and the relevant environment, so one can benefit from the various advantages that AM has to offer. This also enables an uncensored communication and leads to a network owned by a community. Freifunk is such a project and it is based on wireless mesh networks. All participants provide an own wifi router (node) for transferring data between different devices. The routing protocol used in the Freifunk network of Paderborn is called Better Approach To Mobile Ad-hoc Networking advanced (B.A.T.M.A.N. IV or Batman-adv). It uses so called Originator Messages (OGM) to announce the existence of a node and to measure the quality of different links in the network. The Freifunk network in Paderborn consists of about 800 nodes that periodically broadcast OGMs. This leads to a substantial base load of ∼25 GByte per month and node. Instead of performing modifications in the real network, I create a simulation model of the current network structure and implement version IV of the B.A.T.M.A.N. routing protocol. The model is validated by using data from the real network. Based on this model I propose and evaluate five different opportunities to improve the base load without impairing other functionality of the network. The simulation results show that a combination of two improvements can lead to a reduction up to 90 %."}],"citation":{"apa":"Hardes, T. (DIPF/Orig.)"},{"text":"For improving teacher education, there has been an increasing interest in describing teachers' professional competencies and their development in the course of implementing educational programs. The focus of the reported project is on modeling and measuring domain-specific and generic competencies that future physics teachers acquire during their university studies. The model comprises characteristics and relationships between physics content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and skills for explaining physics phenomena. Based on the model, assessment instruments were developed and applied as paper-and-pencil-tests and videotaped expert-novice dialogues for measuring the competencies in a large sample of physics student teachers. This paper presents some results of the joint research project simject of the Universities of Paderborn and Kassel, which aims at the development of a demonstrator for a simulation-based and logistic-integrated project planning and scheduling. Based on the researched state-of-the-art, requirements and a planning process are derived and described, as well as a draft of the current technical infrastructure of the intended modular prototype. Within the power module package wire bonding is used as an interconnection technology. In recent years, aluminum wire has been used preferably, but an ever-growing market of powerful and efficient power modules requires a material with better mechanical and electrical properties. For this reason, a technology change from aluminum to copper is indispensable. However, the copper wire bonding process reacts more sensitive to parameter changes. This makes manufacturing reliable copper bond connections a challenging task. The aim of the BMBF funded project Itsowl-InCuB is the development of self-optimizing techniques to enable the reliable production of copper bond connections under varying conditions. A model of the process is essential to achieve this aim. This model needs to include the dynamic elasto-plastic deformation, the ultrasonic softening effect and the proceeding adhesion between wire and substrate. This paper focusses on the pre-deformation process. In the touchdown phase, the wire is pressed into the V-groove of the tool and a small initial contact area between wire and substrate arise. The local characteristics of the material change abruptly because of the cold forming. Consequently, the pre-deformation has a strong effect on the joining process. In [1], a pre-cleaning effect during the touchdown process of aluminum wires by cracking of oxide layers was presented. These interactions of the process parameters are still largely unknown for copper. In a first step, this paper validates the importance of modeling the pre-deformation by showing its impact on the wire deformation characteristic experimentally. Creating cross-section views of pre-deformed copper wires has shown a low deformation degree compared to aluminum. By using a digital microscope and a scanning confocal microscope an analysis about the contact areas and penetration depths after touchdown has been made. Additionally, it has to be taken into account that the dynamical touchdown force depends on the touchdown speed and the touchdown force set in the bonding machine. In order to measure the overshoot in the force signals, a strain gauge sensor has been used. Subsequently, the affecting factors have been interpreted independently Furthermore, the material properties of copper wire have been investigated with tensile tests and hardness measurements. In a second step, the paper presents finite element models of the touchdown process for source and destination bonds. These models take the measured overshoot in the touchdown forces into account. A multi-linear, isotropic material model has been selected to map the material properties of the copper. A validation of the model with the experimental determined contact areas, normal pressures and penetration depths reveals the high model quality. Thus, the simulation is able to calculate and visualize the three dimensional pre-deformation with an integrated material parameter of the wire if the touchdown parameters of the bonding machine are known. Based on the calculated deformation degrees of wire and substrate, it is probably possible to investigate the effect of the pre-deformation on the pre-cleaning phase in the copper wire bonding.","lang":"eng"}]},{"abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"A primary problem in multimedia content production is the plethora of formats and the resulting multiple point-to-point transformation processes in different content formatting specifications. However, these content transformation processes can be conceptually broken down into a limited set of abstract principles. This allows a unified approach that theoretically enables the transformation of any given input channel into any desired output. Based on this principle, the present article introduces the concept of Generic Content Transformation and the related project MOCCA, which develops the corresponding software implementation of generic content transformation for a variety of input and output channels. To balance technical similarities with specific properties of different media channels, we suggest a combination of an XML-based structure (MocML) and a high level authoring environment. Generic Content Transformation further allows for novel means of accessing assets via compound search algorithms.
