text: 'Modern peer-to-peer networks consist of several network layers and distributed
algorithms providing features like indexing, resource balancing, entry protocols,
security, anonymity, and cryptography. Since peer-to-peer networks are highly
dynamic, a fundamental task in the design of these networks is to provide high
connectivity. We propose a solution by distributed random link exchange algorithms
such that the overlay network can be a connected random graph or use a random
graph as backbone. Random graphs are expander graphs have logarithmic diameter,
high node connectivity, excellent communication properties, and are expander graphs
with high probability. In summary: they are an excellent choice to improve the
stability and robustness of a dynamic network.'

text: Rapid and precise effort estimation of software development projects is crucial
in IT industry. In a case study, the Use Case Point (UCP) method was applied to
15 commercial software development projects. The estimated efforts were compared
with the incurred project efforts. We measured a standard deviation of 42 %. This
is not acceptable for industrial usage. Therefore, we propose appropriate improvements
of the Use Case Point method leading to significantly higher estimation accuracy
with only 20 % standard deviation. The contribution of this paper is a detailed
description of the improved Use Case Point method.

text: "Service level agreements (SLAs) are powerful instruments for describing all
obligations and expectations\r\nin a business relationship. It is of focal importance
for deploying Grid technology to commercial applications.\r\nThe EC-funded project
HPC4U (Highly Predictable Clusters for Internet Grids) aimed at introducing \r\nSLA-awareness
in local resource management systems, while the EC-funded project AssessGrid \r\nintroduced
the notion of risk, which is associated with every business contract. \r\nThis
paper highlights the concept of planning based resource management and describes\r\nthe
SLA-aware scheduler developed and used in these projects."

text: 'Today, mobility is one of the most important market and technology trend
within information and communication technology. As the demand for rapid deployment
of dependable mobile applications increases, middleware for mobile systems is
emerging as one of the most active areas of system research in mobility. The middleware
is a set of distributed software services that exists between distributed operating
systems and mobile applications. The key to the middleware is to provide support
across the mobile application domains, help application developers overcome the
complexity and problems brought by mobility, and enhance dependability and usability
of developed mobile applications. The criticality and pervasiveness of middleware
for mobile systems is continually growing. However, the design and development
of the middleware are difficult tasks, and it is not easy to ensure the quality
of a developed middleware. This is mainly caused by the increasing complexity
of the middleware. In addition, the great diversity of this area makes it very
difficult for the designers to reuse the already established design knowledge
or successful experience when building new systems. All these make the design
process quite inefficient and unpredictable, and therefore risking the project.
“One man’s magic is another man’s engineering”. Engineering design is much more
routine than innovative. Founding on this fundamental notion in software engineering,
we develop an architectural style-based approach to deal with the problems in
the thesis. We build architectural styles for a class of related middleware. The
style represents a common form of design, which originates from the results that
practitioners have achieved in one area. The style is formulated to repeat successes
and avoid failures from previous projects. When building a new middleware, the
designers and developers do not need to explore all possible alternatives for
its supported architecture. Instead, they can use the architectural style that
is effective for the middleware. They can define the design as instances of the
style, or they can use the style as a reference model for further improvement
and development. By structuring the design space for a family of related middleware,
the style can drastically simplify the process of building a middleware, reduce
costs of implementation through reusable infrastructure, and improve system integrity
through style-specific analysis and checks. We develop the approach based on UML-like
meta modeling and graph transformation techniques to support sound methodological
principles, powerful modeling, formal analysis and refinement. The approach consists
of several main parts: the modeling language that supports specification of the
style and mobility, the refinement formalization that ensures that an abstract
style is correctly refined to a concrete one, as well as the consistency check
framework that validates behavioral consistency between two styles on different
abstract layers. With the Fujaba simulation tool support, we also develop a style-based
engineering process that helps us to efficiently develop correct and consistent
styles. Besides, it allows a seamless integration of our approach into the well-known
object oriented design. By providing a concrete example of how to construct the
style for a class of related middleware, and how to use the style to help the
design and development of a new middleware, we show that the architectural style-based
    approach is useful and practical.'

text: In this paper the ideas of a new research project are presented. The material
flow simu- lator d3FACT insight shall manage multiple parallel and time synchronous
simulations to grand the power of real-time visualization in combination with
statistical analysis. This research is issued to overcome the conflict of simulation
run repetition for a good statistical basis and real-time immersive visualization.
A side effect will be the reduc- tion of time needed for simulation experiments.
The planned simulation tool has the feature of triggered cloning, i.e., the user
can decide during runtime to clone a set of simulations after changing parameters
to preserve the original system. The simulations will be aggregated by visualization
and statistics. The rendering is planned to overlay several simulations using
effects like inking and transparency. Simulation data will be aggregated with
    statistical functions and diagrams.

text: An improved concept for ultrasonic hyperthermia of tumors is presented. This
concept is based on past experience of a German government supported project [1],
which ended in 1984. It offers a low cost alternative to common RF- and microwave
methods for hyperthermia of tumors with volumes between 1 and 40 ml at treatment
times between 30 and 60 min. Our new version of the system considerably improves
the temperature suppression in the healthy tissue around the target area and enables
the adjustment of the beam width to the actual tumor size and the field geometry
to the depth and shape of the tumor. The applicator can be used for moderate hyperthermia
with tissue overheating up to 10 K or for ablation therapy with short high temperature
pulses. Its central area is free for the integration of a commercial ultrasonic
diagnostic sector scanner or a Doppler flow sensor in order to support the adjustment
of the transducer and to monitor the whole area during the therapy.

text: The current situation of ad hoc development of Web applications reminds us
of the software development practices of the 1960s, before it was realized that
the development of applications required more than programming expertise. This
book counteracts this situation by giving a comprehensive, practice-oriented and
thorough insight into the new discipline of Web Engineering. The text highlights
the need to examine and re-use the body of knowledge found within software engineering.
It demonstrates how to use that knowledge within the Web environment, in order
to achieve a highly disciplined and methodological means of producing Web-based
software, putting emphasize on current practices, experiences and pitfalls. The
book demonstrates the distinctions between software engineering and Web engineering,
for instance, the shorter lead times that Web engineering has compared to its
software counterpart, whilst also demonstrating the rapid prototyping and agile
methods of development needed to meet these criteria. The book covers important
topics of Web Engineering, including requirements analysis, design, architectures,
technologies, test, operation and maintenance; this is complemented by in-depth
knowledge about Web project management and process issues as well as important
quality aspects of Web applications like usability, performance and security.
An overview of Semantic Web concepts points the way to the development of future
    Web applications.

text: "Grid Computing promises an efficient sharing of world-wide distributed resources,
ranging from hardware, software, expert knowledge to special I/O devices. However,
although the main Grid mechanisms are already developed or are currently addressed
by tremendous research effort, the Grid environment still suffers from a low acceptance
in different user communities. Beside difficulties regarding an intuitive and
comfortable resource access, various problems related to the reliability and the
Quality-of-Service while using the Grid exist.\r\n\r\nUsers should be able to
rely, that their jobs will have certain priority at the remote Grid site and that
they will be finished upon the agreed time regardless of any provider problems.
Therefore, QoS issues have to be considered in the Grid middleware but also in
the local resource management systems at the Grid sites. However, most of the
currently used resource management systems are not suitable for SLAs, as they
do not support resource reservation and do not offer mechanisms for job checkpointing/migration
respectively. The latter are mandatory for Grid providers as rescue anchor in
case of system failures or system overload.\r\n\r\nThis paper focuses on SLA-aware
job migration and presents a work, which is being performed in the EU supported
    project HPC4U."

text: eLearning supports the education in certain disciplines. Here, we report about
novel eLearning concepts, techniques, and tools to support education in Software
Engineering, a subdiscipline of computer science. We call this "Software Engineering
eLearning". On the other side, software support is a substantial prerequisite
for eLearning in any discipline. Thus, Software Engineering techniques have to
be applied to develop and maintain those software systems. We call this "eLearning
Software Engineering". Both aspects have been investigated in a large joint, BMBF-funded
research project, termed MuSofT (Multimedia in Software Engineering). The main
results are summarized in this paper.

text: Spam has become one of the most annoying and costly phenomenon in the Internet.
Valid e-mail addresses belong to the most valuable resources of spammers, but
little is known about spammers? behavior when collecting and harvesting addresses
and spammers? capabilities and interest in carefully directed, consumer-oriented
marketing have not been explored yet. Gaining insight into spammers? ways to obtain
and (mis)use e-mail addresses is useful in many ways, e.g. for the assessment
of the effectiveness of address obscuring techniques and the usability and necessity
of hiding e-mail addresses on the Internet. This paper presents a spam honeypot
project in progress addressing these issues by systematically placing e-mail addresses
in the Internet and analyzing received e-mails. The honeypot?s conceptual framework,
its implementation, and first empirical results are presented. Finally, an outlook
on further work and activities is provided.
