private entities, faith-based institutions, and the government. In contrast, a
limited number of mini-grids under community management strive to survive. Although
the concept of “sense of ownership” is considered crucial for mini-grid sustainability
in developing countries, there is limited theoretical exploration of the factors
that drive this concept and its effects on community mini-grid management. This
paper assesses the relationship between the sense of ownership among electricity
users and the effective management of two solar community-based mini-grids with
    different sustainability experience.
\r\n
\r\n

sense of ownership plays a role in establishing the decision-making process of
mini-grids among village energy committee members toward sustainable or unsustainable
management. The mechanisms behind the sense of ownership among community members
toward managing mini-grids are largely expedited by the strong leadership of village
energy committee members, community participation in decision-making and resource
mobilisation, especially in the preparation, design and implementation phases

text: "Between Dethematizing and Demonetisation: The Holocaust in depictions of
National-Socialism and World War Two on YouTube – In September 2018, an ambitious
\r\nand highly noteworthy project for the construction and distribution of a broad-reaching
portrayal of 20th-century violence in the digital age was launched: the YouTube
\r\nchannel World War Two (WW2). Their mission was to present the experiences
of \r\nthose who lived through the war in a radically objective, apolitical, and
detailed \r\nmanner. The main series, sharing the same title as the channel, focused
on military \r\nevents, while another series titled War Against Humanity (WAH)
would address \r\nwar crimes, human rights abuses, the mass murder of civilians
and prisoners of \r\nwar, Nazi euthanasia crimes, and the Holocaust. This division
of the narrative into \r\na military history (main series) and a separate history
of war crimes and the Holocaust (side series) raises important questions about
the conditions, opportunities, \r\nand limitations that YouTube’s media and economic
structures impose on the portrayal of war, mass violence, and genocide. The paper
also examines how these \r\nstructures influence the narrative and shape the presented
historical image, and \r\nwhat consequences arise for the depiction of war and
history from an academic perspective. Lastly, it explores the reasons behind this
narrative split: whether it was \r\na deliberate decision to systematically differentiate
the storytelling or a strategic \r\nmove shaped by YouTube’s media and economic
constraints. The question arises: \r\nto what extent can historical education
on digital platforms like YouTube, driven \r\nby the need for content monetization,
still align closely with academic standards?"

  text:
Abstract
Neuroscience education is challenged
by rapidly evolving technology and the development of interdisciplinary approaches
for brain research. The Human Brain Project (HBP) Education Programme aimed to
address the need for interdisciplinary expertise in brain research by equipping
a new generation of researchers with skills across neuroscience, medicine, and
information technology. Over its ten year duration, the programme engaged over
1,300 experts and attracted more than 5,500 participants from various scientific
disciplines in its blended learning curriculum, specialised schools and workshops,
and events fostering dialogue among early-career researchers. Key principles of
the programme’s approach included fostering interdisciplinarity, adaptability
to the evolving research landscape and infrastructure, and a collaborative environment
with a focus on empowering early-career researchers. Following the programme’s
conclusion, we provide here an analysis and in-depth view across a diverse range
of educational formats and events. Our results show that the Education Programme
achieved success in its wide geographic reach, the diversity of participants,
and the establishment of transversal collaborations. Building on these experiences
and achievements, we describe how leveraging digital tools and platforms provides
accessible and highly specialised training, which can enhance existing education
programmes for the next generation of brain researchers working in decentralised
European collaborative spaces. Finally, we present the lessons learnt so that
similar initiatives may improve upon our experience and incorporate our suggestions
    into their own programme.

text: "The OPEN Edirom project is developing a digital edition of incidental music
for Goethe’s play Faust, representing an innovative initiative within the realm
of music philology and MEI/TEI edition. Embracing the \"data first\" principle,
OPEN Edirom prioritizes making its content openly accessible, thereby enabling
diverse potential uses for researchers and performers. Our aim involves presenting
the scholarly text and music edition in its entirety, incorporating its various
forms of data, i.e. music, texts, source images, metadata, and annotations, all
displayed with Edirom software.\r\nThe piece we edit in this project is Goethe’s
renowned play Faust I, as adapted by Carl Seydelmann, along with the corresponding
music composed by Peter Joseph von Lindpaintner for the Court Theatre in Stuttgart.
The work premiered in 1832.\r\nThis paper delves into the concept of music edition
as open data publication and delineates its advantages over analog and hybrid
editions in terms of reusability and alignment with the FAIR principles. It also
addresses the challenges encountered in data preparation, both specific to incidental
music and in general data processing. Furthermore, we propose solutions and recommendations
for similar projects based on our insights."

text: In gig work, individuals engage in project-based work outside traditional
organizational structures. While some workers value the autonomy and flexibility
of gig work, they also face unique challenges, including job insecurity and a
lack of available career paths. Platforms are very limited in actively providing
resources to their workers. However, platforms can shape their workers’ work environment
by actively prioritizing different design attributes. Our study is among the first
to uncover how these attributes contribute to workers’ intention to pursue a lasting
career in gig work. Based on a PLS modelling approach with data from a two-wave
quantitative survey involving 652 gig workers, we find that platforms’ utilitarian,
hedonic, and relational design positively affect gig workers’ career commitment.
Furthermore, we find evidence for the mediating role of gig workers’ thriving.
Our research contributes to a better understanding of how platform design attributes
can contribute to careers on gig work platforms.

  text:
Systems Engineering is becoming increasingly important in the engineering
of complex technical systems. Its introduction is forcing companies to undertake
major transformation initiatives. As established change management approaches
show, the corporate culture is an important key criterion for success of transformation.
Therefore, when introducing Systems Engineering into an organization, transformation
initiatives must be tailored to an existing corporate culture or the corporate
culture itself must be changed in order to enable Systems Engineering. In literature
and in industrial practice, different approaches for assessment of corporate culture
exist. Within this research, a systematic literature review on methods and models
for corporate culture assessment is conducted. Core elements are collected and
combined with the fundamentals and success factors of Systems Engineering to develop
a model for corporate culture assessment. The developed model is applied to the
industrial practice of an ongoing Systems Engineering transformation of a large
car manufacturer. The results of the assessment are compared with the emerging
project challenges. Based on this model and its supporting tool and templates,
organizations and transformation leaders are enabled to rapidly obtain an orientation
of hindering or supporting currently established cultural aspects with regard
to Systems Engineering transformation and to provide a decision basis for further
    measures.

  text:
Abstract
The literature addressing bias and
fairness in AI models (fair-AI) is growing at a fast
pace, making it difficult for novel researchers and practitioners to have a bird’s-eye
view picture of the field. In particular, many policy initiatives, standards,
and best practices in fair-AI have been proposed for setting principles, procedures,
and knowledge bases to guide and operationalize the management of bias and fairness.
The first objective of this paper is to concisely survey the state-of-the-art
of fair-AI methods and resources, and the main policies on bias in AI, with the
aim of providing such a bird’s-eye guidance for both researchers and practitioners.
The second objective of the paper is to contribute to the policy advice and best
practices state-of-the-art by leveraging from the results of the NoBIAS research
project. We present and discuss a few relevant topics organized around the NoBIAS
architecture, which is made up of a Legal Layer, focusing on the European Union
context, and a Bias Management Layer, focusing on understanding, mitigating, and
    accounting for bias.

  text:
"In the course of environmental protection and the amendment of TA
Luft, emissions from flange connections must be reduced (to L0.01). The design
and calculation of steel flanges is easy to handle with the help of EN 1591-1
and EN 13555. However, these standards are not suitable in their current form
for thermoplastic sealing joints, such as those used in natural gas supply. For
this reason, lengthy and cost-intensive tests must currently be carried out to
verify tightness and strength. The aim of a doctoral project is to develop a time-efficient
and cost-effective analytical calculation method based on the existing standards.
For this purpose, the energy-elastic material parameters of the steel must be
replaced by elastoplastic material parameters of the thermoplastics and the calculation
algorithm adapted accordingly. The problem is to be investigated with the aid
of numerical structural simulations (FEM) and experimental tests."

  text:
The introduction of Systems Engineering is an approach for dealing
with the increasing complexity of products and their associated product development.
Several introduction strategies are available in the literature; nevertheless,
the introduction of Systems Engineering into practice still poses a great challenge
to companies. Many companies have already gained experience in the introduction
of Systems Engineering. Therefore, as part of the SE4OWL research project, the
need to conduct a study including expert interviews and to collect the experiences
of experts was identified. A total of 78 hypotheses were identified from 13 expert
interviews concerning the lessons learned. Using exclusion criteria, 52 hypotheses
were validated in a subsequent quantitative survey with 112 participants. Of these
52 hypotheses, 40 could be confirmed based on the survey results. Only four hypotheses
were rejected, and eight could neither be confirmed nor rejected. Through this
research, guidance is provided to companies to leverage best practices for the
introduction of their own Systems Engineering and to avoid the poor practices
    of other companies.

  text:
Established companies are increasingly opening their innovation systems
to stay ahead of the competition. In this context, collaboration with innovative
and agile start-ups are gaining continuously more importance. In the past established
companies often used common corporate venturing methods such as incubators, accelerators,
or corporate venture capital for collaboration. Compared to these methods the
venture client model is relatively new and was invented by BMW employees in 2014.
Using the venture client model, established companies become early clients of
the start-ups even it is still a venture to do so. Together they carry out a pilot
project to develop a proof of concept and validate it under real conditions. If
successful, they enter a long-term collaboration to integrate the start-up’s solution
into products, processes, or business models of the established company. The aim
of this paper is to sum up the current literature and set a foundation for future
research on this topic. Therefore, we conduct a systematic literature review.
As a result, we provide a definition of the venture client model, describe characteristics,
present advantages from the perspective of established companies and start-ups.
In addition, we summarize the state of research regarding strategy, process, and
organizational structure and for the venture client model. In terms of strategy,
future research should elaborate defining elements of a strategy as well as ways
to integrate the venture client model into the corporate innovation-ecosystem.
Focusing on the process additional research is needed on a venture client reference
process and its integration into the corporate’s core processes. Referring to

text: This article presents the results of the implementation of the Erasmus Plus
project (KA203 financed by the European Union, contract number 2019-1-NL01-KA203-060339)
Research in Teacher Education (RiTE). The aim of the project was to promote and
facilitate pre-service teachers to create and undertake evidence-based practices
in teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In the RiTE
project, pre-service teachers were encouraged to use evidence from educational
and scientific research and to experiment and introduce didactic innovations in
teaching and learning processes. Although it has its justification in the tradition
of thinking about science, evidence-based practice is not yet consciously applied
in school practice. In the article, we present both the theoretical framework
for such practices, and the results of qualitative research – an analysis of interviews
conducted with students, future teachers, and novice teachers involved in the
project. The presented results show changes in the context of an understanding
of evidence and what evidence-based practices are in the teaching process and
the vision of such teaching presented by the respondents.

  text:
Abstract
The development of modern vehicles
is complex, especially regarding compliance with security and safety. ISO/SAE
21434 considers security and safety along the entire product life cycle. According
to the standard, a system architecture, a risk analysis, and the application of
countermeasures are carried out in the early system design. Design patterns are
solutions to known design problems. Security Design Patterns (SDP) describe countermeasures
and are used to reduce risk. After our literature review, we did not find a suitable
approach that presents SDPs that would be applicable in early system design. In
this paper, we present 10 SDPs for early system design, which we evaluated during
an 11-week student project with 28 teams. We present the results of the quantitative
analysis and the evaluation of the feedback.

text: The role of evidence based practice (EBP) in educational contexts can be argued
from the necessity ofevidence for societal debates, as well as evidence based
practice in other research fields, such asmedicine. Therefore, using evidence
based on epistemological beliefs is a relevant task for scienceeducation. However,
i t is unclear whether pre service teachers hold necessary competences in EBP.Existing
research indicates a need for the analysis and promotion of competences in EBP
for pre serviceteachers from a scien ce education perspective. This project aims
at investigating the domainspecificity and promotion of competences in EBP of
preservice teachers. An additional emphasis is put on the reaction to anomalous
observations ascontradictory evidence. Within three sub studies, different methodological
approaches were used togather insights into the competence in EBP from the base
of epistemological beliefs. As results show, there is a need for promotion in competences
in EBP for preservice teachers in allsubjects. Therefore, the developed intervention
for the promotion of pre service chemistry teacherscompetence in EBP shows to
be effective. Moreover, the impact of content knowledge and the role ofepistemological
beliefs on the interpretation of anomalous observations could be demonstrated.

text: 'Multiobjective optimization plays an increasingly important role in modern
applications, where several criteria are often of equal importance. The task in
multiobjective optimization and multiobjective optimal control is therefore to
compute the set of optimal compromises (the Pareto set) between the conflicting
objectives. The advances in algorithms and the increasing interest in Pareto-optimal
solutions have led to a wide range of new applications related to optimal and
feedback control - potentially with non-smoothness both on the level of the objectives
or in the system dynamics. This results in new challenges such as dealing with
expensive models (e.g., governed by partial differential equations (PDEs)) and
developing dedicated algorithms handling the non-smoothness. Since in contrast
to single-objective optimization, the Pareto set generally consists of an infinite
number of solutions, the computational effort can quickly become challenging,
which is particularly problematic when the objectives are costly to evaluate or
when a solution has to be presented very quickly. This article gives an overview
of recent developments in the field of multiobjective optimization of non-smooth
PDE-constrained problems. In particular we report on the advances achieved within
Project 2 "Multiobjective Optimization of Non-Smooth PDE-Constrained Problems
    - Switches, State Constraints and Model Order Reduction" of the DFG Priority Programm
1962 "Non-smooth and Complementarity-based Distributed Parameter Systems: Simulation
    and Hierarchical Optimization".'

text: "Several modules in automotive are usually modified and adapted for various
project-specific applications. Due to a\r\nstandardized safety concept a high
reusability is accessible. A safety element out of context (SEooC) according to
ISO 26262 can be a suitable approach. Based on the same safety concept and analysis,
common modules can reach high reusability. For developing according to a module
out of context, an appropriate and detailed development approach is required.
This paper shows how to deduce this development processes for platform modules.
Therefore, the detailed\r\napproach of the SEooC is derived. The aim is to create
a detailed workflow for all phases of the development and integration of any kind
of system modules. As an application example, an automotive project for an actuator
    control module is considered."
