A typical conception,\r\nfor example in the context of medical diagnosis, is that a knowledgeable user receives AIgenerated\r\nclassification as advice. Research to improve such interactions often aims to foster the\r\nuser’s trust, which in turn should improve the combined human-AI performance. Given that AI\r\nmodels can err, we argue that the possibility to critically review, thus to distrust, an AI decision is\r\nan equally interesting target of research.\r\nWe created two image classification scenarios in which the participants received mock-up\r\nAI advice. The quality of the advice decreases for a phase of the experiment. We studied the\r\ntask performance, trust and distrust of the participants, and tested whether an instruction to\r\nremain skeptical and review each piece of advice led to a better performance compared to a\r\nneutral condition. Our results indicate that this instruction does not improve but rather worsens\r\nthe participants’ performance. Repeated single-item self-report of trust and distrust shows an\r\nincrease in trust and a decrease in distrust after the drop in the AI’s classification quality, with no\r\ndifference between the two instructions. Furthermore, via a Bayesian Signal Detection Theory\r\nanalysis, we provide a procedure to assess appropriate reliance in detail, by quantifying whether\r\nthe problems of under- and over-reliance have been mitigated. International authors from philosophy, literature, art, architecture, and gender studies address the topic from a variety of perspectives, reaching beyond classical feminism, and beyond the labels of \"motherhood\" and \"sex.\" The contributions are grouped into five sections – Body Experiences, History, Technology and Arts, Feminism and Phenomenology, and Beauty. Papers address a multitude of areas, ranging from beauty practices and Ukrainian women refugees in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war, feminist phenomenology and socio-structural critique, female specific neuropathology, the discourse of the Victorian women’s menstruation to \"motherhood\" in gender studies and feminist new materialisms. The book provides not only a comprehensive overview over the current state of research, but will also inspire further discussions. DD Family Career.pdf","date_created":"2025-12-17T09:10:18Z","creator":"isste"}],"abstract":[{"text":"<jats:sec>\r\n                    <jats:title>Purpose</jats:title>\r\n                    <jats:p>This study aims to explore the current state of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in the workplace and discuss a potential digital divide in relation to genAI.</jats:p>\r\n                  </jats:sec>\r\n                  <jats:sec>\r\n                    <jats:title>Design/methodology/approach</jats:title>\r\n                    <jats:p>Using a quantitative approach, we study career-relevant predictors – family socio-economic status, education and work characteristics – and their relationship with different indicators of digital divide – access, genAI use, attitude toward AI and perceived AI literacy. To test our hypothesis, we used logistic and linear regression analyses. Additionally, latent profile analysis was conducted to identify patterns regarding work characteristics within the sample.</jats:p>\r\n                  </jats:sec>\r\n                  <jats:sec>\r\n                    <jats:title>Findings</jats:title>\r\n                    <jats:p>Among the 1,341 participants, 326 individuals were genAI users. Our results show that higher family socio-economic status, education and enriched and demanding work can be linked to a more positive attitude toward AI and higher perceived AI literacy. In the case of access and frequency of use, the results were mixed.</jats:p>\r\n                  </jats:sec>\r\n                  <jats:sec>\r\n                    <jats:title>Originality/value</jats:title>\r\n                    <jats:p>Our findings offer a novel contribution by examining a potentially upcoming digital divide in the case of genAI. We focus on how the career adaptation of the workforce might develop in the age of genAI. Importantly, we highlight that not all individuals may have an equal opportunity to adapt to genAI, which could hinder their future career development and reinforce patterns of inequality. However, the metaphors used to conceptualize explaining may influence how this process is framed. This study investigates the extent to which the co-constructive nature of explaining is represented in explaining metaphors. Using a systematic analysis of agency, we examined how these metaphors depict the explanation process and the roles of the agents involved. We found that explaining metaphors lack collaboration between explainer and addressee, constructiveness of the process, as well as bidirectionality and iterativeness.
