Using an effectively one-dimensional tight-binding system Coulomb-induced carrier-correlations up to third-order in the optical field are treated without additional approximations. To illustrate the influence of the different many-body contributions excitonic differential absorption spectra are computed for various polarizations and pump-probe time delays. The simultaneous influence of energetic disorder and correlations on the differential absorption spectra is discussed. Also presented are numerical results for the case when the semiconductor system is placed inside a microcavity in the strong-coupling regime. It is shown that the correlations induce characteristic signatures in the normal mode spectra."}],"date_created":"2023-04-02T20:16:41Z","department":[{"_id":"293"}],"type":"journal_article","status":"public","_id":"43332","publisher":"Società Italiana di Fisica","page":"407-421","volume":11,"user_id":"49063","citation":{"ama":"Meier T, Sieh C, Knorr A, Jahnke F, Thomas P, Koch SW. The theory is evaluated to analyze ultrafast absorption changes around the exciton resonance in semiconductor quantum-well structures where the relative strength of the different many-body contributions can be manipulated by proper selection of pump and probe polarizations. For two-band systems and oppositely circular polarization it is shown that Coulombic correlation dynamics dominates the optical response. As a consequence, the optical Stark effect in this configuration corresponds to a red shift of the exciton resonance in striking contrast to the usual atomic-like blue shift. The predictions are confirmed by experiments using high-quality InGaAs quantum-well systems.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2023-04-02T20:22:36Z","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"293"}],"status":"public","page":"1-6","_id":"43334","publisher":"Journal of luminescence","user_id":"49063","volume":"83/84","citation":{"mla":"Meier, Torsten, et al. “Theory of Coherent Effects in Semiconductors.” Journal of Luminescence, vol. 83/84, Journal of luminescence, 1999, pp. 1–6, doi:10.1016/S0022-2313(99)00065-4.","ama":"Meier T, Koch SW, Sieh C, et al. The two-band model is transformed to the exciton representation, and exciton-phonon coupling represented by arbitrary spectral densities is incorporated into the equations of motion for the relevant exciton variables through Redfield superoperators. Time-resolved coherent and incoherent terahertz radiation as well as the incoherent optical fluorescence are calculated for a one-dimensional model of coupled quantum wells in an external electric field with on-site Coulomb interaction between electrons and holes and an overdamped Brownian oscillator spectral density representing the electron-phonon coupling. A doorway-window picture based on the reduced single-electron density matrix is developed for the analysis of both signals. Our results obtained within DFT-LDA show good qualitative agreement with recent experiments. This holds in particular for the stoichiometric trends. A strong negative anisotropy at low photon energies is linked to the formation of Ga–Ga bonds along the [110] direction. There are discrepancies, however, with respect to the line shape and the energetic positions of characteristic peaks. Substantial improvement is achieved by using a numerically efficient GW approach with approximations for local-field effects and dynamical screening. We find that the spectral features related to transitions between surface perturbed bulk wave functions are more strongly affected by self-energy corrections than anisotropies directly linked to surface electronic states.
","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Surface Review and Letters","issue":"6","volume":6,"user_id":"16199","funded_apc":"1","_id":"13765","page":"1159-1165","status":"public","citation":{"mla":"Schmidt, Wolf Gero, et al. “SELF-ENERGY EFFECTS IN THE OPTICAL ANISOTROPY OF GaP(001).” Surface Review and Letters, vol. 6, no. 6, 1999, pp. 1159–65, doi:10.1142/s0218625x99001281.","ama":"Schmidt WG, FATTEBERT JL, BERNHOLC J, BECHSTEDT F.
