  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The nonorthogonality of coherent
    states is a fundamental property which prevents them from being perfectly and
    deterministically discriminated. Here, we present an experimentally feasible protocol
    for the probabilistic orthogonalisation of a pair of coherent states, independent
    of their amplitude and phase. In contrast to unambiguous state discrimination,
    a successful operation of our protocol is heralded without measuring the states.
    As such, they remain suitable for further manipulation and the obtained orthogonal
    states serve as a discretevariable basis. Therefore, our protocol doubles as a
    simple continuous-to-discrete variable converter, which may find application in
    hybrid continuous-discrete quantum information processing protocols.</jats:p>

  text: '<jats:p>Ultrafast nonequilibrium dynamics offer a route to study the microscopic
    interactions that govern macroscopic behavior. In particular, photoinduced phase
    transitions (PIPTs) in solids provide a test case for how forces, and the resulting
    atomic motion along a reaction coordinate, originate from a nonequilibrium population
    of excited electronic states. Using femtosecond photoemission, we obtain access
    to the transient electronic structure during an ultrafast PIPT in a model system:
    indium nanowires on a silicon(111) surface. We uncover a detailed reaction pathway,
    allowing a direct comparison with the dynamics predicted by ab initio simulations.
    This further reveals the crucial role played by localized photoholes in shaping
    the potential energy landscape and enables a combined momentum- and real-space
    description of PIPTs, including the ultrafast formation of chemical bonds.</jats:p>'

  text: Im Zuge der wachsenden Digitalisierung von allen Aspekten der Schule wandeln
    sich auch die Anforderungen an die Unterrichtsgestaltung. Auch angehende Physiklehrkräfte
    sollten schon in der ersten Ausbildungsphase auf diese Anforderungen vorbereitet
    werden. Hierzu müssen sie Kompetenzen insbesondere zum Einsatz spezifischer digitaler
    Medien für das Lehren und Lernen von Physik erwerben. Um dies zu ermöglichen,
    wurde an der Universität Paderborn das Seminarkonzept MORPH entwickeln und erprobt.
    Dabei handelt es sich um einen fachdidaktischen Projektkurs, der den Nutzen digitaler
    Werkzeuge für das naturwissenschaftliche Arbeiten betont. Als zentrale Lernaktivitäten
    nutzen die Teilnehmenden digitale Werkzeuge, um physikalische Alltagsphänomene
    experimentell zu analysieren und zu modellieren. Neben einer Beschreibung didaktischer
    Hintergründe des Konzepts und einer konkreten Umsetzung berichtet der Beitrag
    zudem die Ergebnisse einer Evaluation der ersten beiden Erprobungen. Dabei stellte
    sich heraus, dass die Studierenden zwar die angestrebten Fähigkeiten zum Umgang
    mit digitalen Werkzeugen erwerben, sie aber für eine Nutzung digitaler Medien
    in ihrer späteren Unterrichtstätigkeit eher weniger motiviert werden konnten.

  text: "In recent years, Raman spectroscopy has been used to visualize and analyze
    ferroelectric domain structures.\r\nThe technique makes use of the fact that the
    intensity or frequency of certain phonons is strongly influenced\r\nby the presence
    of domain walls. Although the method is used frequently, the underlying mechanism
    responsible\r\nfor the changes in the spectra is not fully understood. This inhibits
    deeper analysis of domain structures based\r\non this method. Two different models
    have been proposed. However, neither model completely explains all\r\nobservations.
    In this work, we have systematically investigated domain walls in different scattering
    geometries\r\nwith Raman spectroscopy in the common ferroelectric materials used
    in integrated optics, i.e., KTiOPO4,\r\nLiNbO3, and LiTaO3. Based on the two models,
    we can demonstrate that the observed contrast for domain\r\nwalls is in fact based
    on two different effects. We can identify on the one hand microscopic changes
    at the\r\ndomain wall, e.g., strain and electric fields, and on the other hand
    a macroscopic change of selection rules at the\r\ndomain wall. While the macroscopic
    relaxation of selection rules can be explained by the directional dispersion\r\nof
    the phonons in agreement with previous propositions, the microscopic changes can
    be explained qualitatively\r\nin terms of a simplified atomistic model."

  text: In the context of ferroelectrics spatially resolved Raman spectroscopy is
    a powerful tool to investigate stoichiometry, defects or the ferroelectric properties,
    as well as to visualize domain structures or waveguides. Using Raman spectroscopy
    for investigations requires a throughout understanding of the spectra and underlying
    mechanisms. For example, in the context of the common nonlinear materials, lithium
    niobate and potassium titanyl phosphate, no comprehensive understanding of the
    Raman spectra of the bulk materials is available, while the underlying mechanism
    of the domain wall contrast in Raman spectroscopy is not well understood. In this
    work, questions like these have been addressed in terms of systematic experimental
    investigations in close cooperation with density functional theory. In particular,
    it was possible to present a complete assignment of all phonons in the lithium
    niobate system, which serves as the basis for the understanding of the domain
    wall spectrum. Here, the domain wall spectrum can be explained with regard to
    microscopic structural effects, such as strains and electric fields, as well as
    a macroscopic change of selections rules. Both mechanisms are likewise present
    in the domain wall spectrum, while being present at different length scales. In
    the context of potassium titanyl phosphate the first throughout Raman investigations
    of domain structure, waveguides and periodically poled waveguides are presented.
    In the context of Rb-exchanged waveguides the change in stoichiometry, but also
    effects of strain are detected. Here, the Raman analysis provides a method to
    evaluate these effects.

  text: "We report on the coherent phase manipulation of quantum dot excitons by electric
    means. For our\r\nexperiments, we use a low capacitance single quantum dot photodiode
    which is electrically\r\ncontrolled by a custom designed SiGe:C BiCMOS chip. The
    phase manipulation is performed and\r\nquantified in a Ramsey experiment, where
    ultrafast transient detuning of the exciton energy is\r\nperformed synchronous
    to double pulse p/2 ps laser excitation. We are able to demonstrate\r\nelectrically
    controlled phase manipulations with magnitudes up to 3p within 100 ps which is
    below\r\nthe dephasing time of the quantum dot exciton."
