In a between-subjects online experiment (n = 200), participants completed a price classification task supported by AI, while we manipulated the presence of local feature-based explanations. Drawing on dual-process theory as an interpretive lens, we conceptualize explainability as a cognitively ambivalent intervention that reshapes reliance behavior. Our results show that XAI-induced transparency exerts competing effects: while it directly reduces negative consultations, it simultaneously increases competence-based trust and shifts responsibility attribution toward the AI. These mechanisms foster overreliance and significantly increase negative consultations, resulting in a competitive mediation pattern. Notably, comparable effects do not emerge for positive consultations, suggesting that transparency more readily amplifies reliance than it promotes corrective belief updating. By empirically demonstrating this paradox, our study develops IS and Decision Sciences research on automation bias in transparent ADM settings and identifies key psychological mechanisms through which explainability influences reliance. These findings inform the design of XAI systems that prioritize calibrated reliance rather than merely increasing perceived transparency.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2026-06-30T08:34:02Z","type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"792"}],"title":"Unveiling the Hidden Layer: Ambivalent Cognitive Effects of XAI in Augmented Decision-Making under Uncertainty","year":"2026","author":[{"id":"100285","last_name":"Matschak","first_name":"Tizian","full_name":"Matschak, Tizian"},{"full_name":"Ilja, Nastjuk","last_name":"Ilja","first_name":"Nastjuk"},{"last_name":"Trang","first_name":"Simon Thanh-Nam","orcid":"0000-0002-4784-4038","full_name":"Trang, Simon Thanh-Nam","id":"98948"},{"full_name":"Benitez, Jose","last_name":"Benitez","first_name":"Jose"}],"date_updated":"2026-07-03T18:33:13Z","article_type":"original","intvolume":" 209","main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167923626001107","open_access":"1"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1016/j.dss.2026.114721"},{"citation":{"ieee":"L. Such systems are essential for businesses seeking trustworthy partners, as they help reduce information asymmetry, lower buyers' transaction risks, and allow high-quality service providers to justify premium pricing. Unlike traditional review-based systems in the business-to-consumer (B2C) context, we propose a B2B reputation mechanism in which buyers commit to a rating payment before a transaction. Once the buyer finalizes the rating, this payment is executed and recorded on a blockchain as an immutable, secure ledger. Our system mimics natural trust-building mechanisms with ratings that are (1) monetary-based, (2) stake-based, (3) non-aggregated, (4) involve counter-ratings, (5) selectively sellable, (6) individually comparable, (7) stored on a blockchain, (8) and monitored by a third instance. This system provides a novel approach to fostering trust in B2B transactions by reducing information asymmetry and transaction risk. We illustrate the mechanism’s application in the consulting sector. Our analysis has identified 23 institutional trust and distrust dimensions that promote establishing institutional trust through the proposed mechanism. Qualitative interviews suggest that, while complex and challenging to apply, this mechanism can foster trust in B2B transactions. Given the low maturity in the application domain—rating professional business services with business reputation systems—and solution domain—using monetary stakes for ratings, this system stands as a potential invention."}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10257-025-00702-9?utm_source=rct_congratemailt&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=oa_20250523&utm_content=10.1007%2Fs10257-025-00702-9"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/s10257-025-00702-9","year":"2025","title":"Blockchain-based reputation systems for business-to-business services: designing a reputation mechanism to reduce information asymmetry in professional consulting","author":[{"full_name":"Hemmrich, Simon","last_name":"Hemmrich","first_name":"Simon"},{"last_name":"Nissen","first_name":"Volker","full_name":"Nissen, Volker"},{"last_name":"Beverugen","first_name":"Daniel","full_name":"Beverugen, Daniel"},{"full_name":"Pauls, Josias Daniel Miño","last_name":"Pauls","first_name":"Josias Daniel Miño"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["1617-9846","1617-9854"]},"date_updated":"2025-05-25T10:12:00Z","publication_status":"published","article_type":"original","oa":"1","file_date_updated":"2025-05-25T10:09:43Z","citation":{"chicago":"Hemmrich, Simon, Volker Nissen, Daniel Beverugen, and Josias Daniel Miño Pauls. “Blockchain-Based Reputation Systems for Business-to-Business Services: Designing a Reputation Mechanism to Reduce Information Asymmetry in Professional Consulting.” Information Systems and E-Business Management, 2025. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10257-025-00702-9.","short":"S. However, small and medium-sized enterprises and public organizations face significant challenges navigating and leveraging these ecosystems due to resource constraints, knowledge gaps, and partnership difficulties. While digital innovation hubs have been introduced as potential intermediaries to foster innovation, existing models primarily focus on individual solutions and networking rather than orchestrating service innovation. This study investigates the design of a digital service innovation hub as an orchestrating entity that facilitates service innovation within ecosystems. Under the design science research paradigm, we analyze the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises and public organizations and derive design requirements for these hubs. Based on 17 expert interviews and focus group validations, we define the problem\r\nspace and provide a requirements catalog for designing digital service innovation hubs as a step towards providing holistic support for service innovation initiatives.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI 2025)","keyword":["service innovation","ecosystem","innovation hubs","SMEs","public sector"],"type":"conference","department":[{"_id":"195"}],"date_created":"2025-09-16T13:44:53Z","date_updated":"2025-09-16T13:46:05Z","publication_status":"published","year":"2025","title":"Designing Digital Service Innovation Hubs: An Ecosystem Perspective on the Challenges and Requirements of SMEs and the Public Sector","author":[{"last_name":"Schäfer","first_name":"Jannika Marie","full_name":"Schäfer, Jannika Marie","id":"74374"},{"full_name":"Liebschner, Jonas","last_name":"Liebschner","first_name":"Jonas"},{"last_name":"Rajko","first_name":"Polina","full_name":"Rajko, Polina"},{"first_name":"Henrik","last_name":"Cohnen","full_name":"Cohnen, Henrik"},{"last_name":"Lugmair","first_name":"Nina","full_name":"Lugmair, Nina"},{"last_name":"Heinz","first_name":"Daniel","full_name":"Heinz, Daniel"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"project":[{"_id":"1250","name":"SHAPE : Gestaltung von Dienstleistungsentwicklungsprozessen und lnnovationspartnerschaften mit Unternehmen"}],"citation":{"ama":"Schäfer JM, Liebschner J, Rajko P, Cohnen H, Lugmair N, Heinz D.
