This motivates decision makers to rely on decision support systems for assistance in identifying high-quality decisions using data simulation, optimization, and visualization. However, for optimal assistance, a decision support system (DSS) must align with the decision-making process of a decision maker, which is characterized by available data, optimization goals, personal preferences, and other influences. Unfortunately, the increasing complexity and volatility of business environments prevent DSS developers to anticipate all potential decision-making processes during DSS design, and consequently, to provide decision makers with sufficient customization options. Commissioning a DSS that is tailored to a decision-making process is a cost- and time-intensive undertaking due to limited developer availability or misunderstandings between developers and decision makers. As a result, decision makers may settle for an off-the-shelf DSS that does not fully align with their decision-making process and potentially results in suboptimal decisions, thereby impairing business success. This thesis proposes an approach that enables decision makers to create tailored decision support systems themselves, thereby avoiding the aforementioned misalignment between provided and required decision support. The approach expects DSS developers to provide partial DSS functionality in the form of reusable software services. Using a low-code approach, non-programmers can then compose these services into a holistic DSS by modeling a decision-making process with the help of an assistance system. The contribution of the thesis is fourfold: First, the thesis explains how to design a service repository to capture available decision support services for the encompassing application domain. The principle of the FDM process is the strand wise deposition of molten thermoplastic polymers, by feeding a filament trough a heated nozzle. Due to the strand and layer wise deposition the cooling of the manufactured component is not uniform. This leads to dimensional deviations which may cause the component to be unusable for the desired application. In this paper, a method is described which is based on the shrinkage compensation through the adaption of every single raster line in components manufactured with the FDM process. The shrinkage compensation is based on a model resulting from a DOE which considers the main influencing factors on the shrinkage behavior of raster lines in the FDM process. An in‐house developed software analyzes the component and locally applies the shrinkage compensation with consideration of the boundary conditions, e.g., the position of the raster line in the component and the process parameters. Following, a validation using a simple geometry is conducted to show the effect of the presented adaptive scaling method.
"}],"date_created":"2023-10-19T07:25:06Z","department":[{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"367"},{"_id":"321"},{"_id":"219"},{"_id":"624"}],"keyword":["Materials Chemistry","Polymers and Plastics","Organic Chemistry","Condensed Matter Physics"],"type":"journal_article","author":[{"full_name":"Moritzer, Elmar","first_name":"Elmar","last_name":"Moritzer","id":"20531"},{"first_name":"Felix","last_name":"Hecker","full_name":"Hecker, Felix","id":"45537"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["1022-1360","1521-3900"]},"title":"Adaptive Scaling of Components in the Fused Deposition Modeling Process","year":"2023","intvolume":" 411","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2024-02-23T08:36:42Z","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1002/masy.202200181","open_access":"1"}],"doi":"10.1002/masy.202200181"},{"place":"Fukuoka (Japan)","date_created":"2023-10-20T08:15:17Z","department":[{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"367"},{"_id":"321"},{"_id":"219"}],"type":"conference","citation":{"mla":"Moritzer, Elmar, et al. “Investigation of the Deposition Velocity Related Temperature Deviations for High Temperature Materials in the FDM Process.” <i>Proceedings of the 37th International Conference of the Polymer Processing Society (PPS-37)</i>, AIP Publishing, 2023, pp. 170001-1-170001–05, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0168548\">10.1063/5.0168548</a>.","ama":"Moritzer E, Hecker F, Knaup F, Wächter J. But the concept originally only starts from the users’ point of view, while the processes on the platforms’ side are largely left out. In contrast, this paper argues that what is true for users is also valid for algorithmic processes and the designers behind. On the one hand, the algorithm imagines users’ future behavior via machine learning, which is supposed to predict all their future actions. On the other hand, the designers anticipate different actions that could potentially performed by users with every new implementation of features such as social media feeds. In order to bring into view this permanently reciprocal interplay coupled to the imaginary, in which not only the users are involved, I will argue for a more comprehensive and theoretically precise algorithmic imaginary referring to the theory of Cornelius Castoriadis. In such a perspective, an important contribution can be formulated for a theory of social media platforms that goes beyond praxeocentrism or structural determinism.
"}],"publisher":"SAGE Publications","_id":"51345","page":"646-655","volume":45,"user_id":"54779","status":"public","citation":{"apa":"Schulz, C. In this regard, affective machine learning could benefit from the recent advancements in explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) research. We perform a structured literature review to examine the use of interpretability in the context of affective machine learning. We focus on studies using audio, visual, or audiovisual data for model training and identified 29 research articles. Our findings show an emergence of the use of interpretability methods in the last five years. The role of hesitations and their communicative function in human-human interaction is a much-discussed topic in current research. To better understand the underlying cognitive processes, we developed a human–robot interaction (HRI) setup that allows the measurement of the electroencephalogram (EEG) signals of a human participant while interacting with a robot. We thereby address the research question of whether we find effects on single-trial EEG based on the distraction and the corresponding robot’s hesitation scaffolding strategy. To carry out the experiments, we leverage our LabLinking method, which enables interdisciplinary joint research between remote labs. This study could not have been conducted without LabLinking, as the two involved labs needed to combine their individual expertise and equipment to achieve the goal together. The results of our study indicate that the EEG correlates in the distracted condition are different from the baseline condition without distractions. Furthermore, we could differentiate the EEG correlates of distraction with and without a hesitation scaffolding strategy. This proof-of-concept study shows that LabLinking makes it possible to conduct collaborative HRI studies in remote laboratories and lays the first foundation for more in-depth research into robotic scaffolding strategies.
","lang":"eng"}],"issue":"4","publication":"Multimodal Technologies and Interaction","department":[{"_id":"660"}],"keyword":["Computer Networks and Communications","Computer Science Applications","Human-Computer Interaction","Neuroscience (miscellaneous)"],"type":"journal_article","date_created":"2024-02-18T10:45:53Z","status":"public","volume":7,"user_id":"54779","publisher":"MDPI AG","_id":"51371","project":[{"_id":"113","name":"TRR 318 - A3: TRR 318 - Subproject A3"},{"grant_number":"438445824","_id":"115","name":"TRR 318 - A05: TRR 318 - Echtzeitmessung der Aufmerksamkeit im Mensch-Roboter-Erklärdialog (Teilprojekt A05)"}],"citation":{"ieee":"B. Referring to Niklas Luhmann's notion of communication, the paper argues that explainability does not necessarily require transparency and proposes an alternative approach. Explanations as communicative processes do not imply any disclosure of thoughts or neural processes, but only reformulations that provide the partners with additional elements and enable them to understand (from their perspective) what has been done and why. Recent computational approaches aiming at post-hoc explainability reproduce what happens in communication, producing explanations of the working of algorithms that can be different from the processes of the algorithms.","lang":"eng"}],"page":"17-27","_id":"51368","user_id":"54779","volume":16,"status":"public","citation":{"short":"E. In the field of laser sintering (LS), these materials are less common so far. In order to extend the available material variety for the LS process, new ceramic-filled Polyamide 613 powders are investigated within the scope of this work. Here, the resulting properties from two different powder production methods are compared. One filled powder is produced by dry blending and the other powder with the same filler and filling ratio is produced by encapsulating the filler particles inside the polymer particles within the dissolution-precipitation process. It was found that encapsulating the filler particles can provide certain benefits for the processability, for example an improved powder flowability or better filler dispersion. However, encapsulating the filler also alters the thermal properties of the precipitated powder. A key factor for the further establishment of LS is the expansion of the material portfolio with, for example, refreshable and halogen-free flame-retardant (FR) powder materials. Accordingly, various halogen-free FRs are investigated in this work and evaluated with respect to their use in LS. First, their decomposition behavior and mode of action are examined. Subsequently, the additives are dry blended with PA12 to investigate properties relevant for LS, such as particle morphology, thermal behavior and melt viscosity. Afterwards, test specimens for UL94 vertical flame-retardancy tests are produced by processing the dry blends on an EOS P3 LS system. Finally, the process stability of the process-aged powder blends is investigated by again examining the thermal behavior and melt viscosity."}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"main_file_link":[{"url":"https://www.sffsymposium.org/","open_access":"1"}],"doi":"https://doi.org/10.26153/tsw/50926","author":[{"id":"72307","orcid":"0009-0004-8412-3645 ","first_name":"Fabian","last_name":"Neitzel","full_name":"Neitzel, Fabian"},{"full_name":"Kletetzka, Ivo","first_name":"Ivo","last_name":"Kletetzka","id":"50769"},{"first_name":"Hans-Joachim","last_name":"Schmid","orcid":"000-0001-8590-1921","full_name":"Schmid, Hans-Joachim","id":"464"}],"title":"Halogen-Free Flame Retardant Powder Materials for Laser Sintering: Evaluation and Process Stability Analysis","year":"2023","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2024-04-02T12:43:51Z","place":"Laboratory for Freeform Fabrication and University of Texas, Austin","oa":"1","citation":{"chicago":"Neitzel, Fabian, Ivo Kletetzka, and Hans-Joachim Schmid. “Halogen-Free Flame Retardant Powder Materials for Laser Sintering: Evaluation and Process Stability Analysis.” In <i>Proceedings of the 34th Annual International Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium</i>, edited by Joseph Beaman.
