  text:
Abstract. To increase the sustainability of forming processes such
as punch bending, homogenization of the processed semi-finished product is an
essential step in the manufacturing process. High-strength wire materials are
usually available as strip material before being further processed in a forming
process. For storage and transport, the material is coiled onto coils and transported
to the customer. During the coiling process, residual stresses and plastic deformation
are introduced into the wire. Thus, the final product quality is also influenced
by the geometry of the coil. Straightening machines are used in production lines
to compensate for these. Once a straightening machine has been set up, the settings
for the roll positions are usually not changed. As a result, there is no reaction
to material fluctuations, which means that the components to be produced do not
meet the dimensional accuracy requirements. This leads to an increase in the rejection
rate in manufacturing processes. To reduce the rejection rate, it is necessary
to enable dynamic and flexible infeed of the straightening rollers. In this context,
an innovative control concept with disturbance compensation was developed for
the straightening process. The disturbance compensation uses a disturbance model
that predicts the change in bending curvature over the coil radius. With this
prediction, the straightening machine can be adjusted specifically. The roller
positions are adjusted by a subordinate position control. The additional feedback
from measured geometric product properties from the following punching-bending
process enables the straightening machine to be adjusted even in the case of unforeseen
fluctuations in the material properties. In this way, it is possible to react
to any material fluctuations as required. This novel, demand-oriented adjustment
of the straightening machine is expected to result in a high increase in the efficiency
of the production process and a reduction of the rejection rate.

  text:
Abstract
Explainable artificial intelligence
has mainly focused on static learning scenarios so far. We are interested in dynamic
scenarios where data is sampled progressively, and learning is done in an incremental
rather than a batch mode. We seek efficient incremental algorithms for computing
feature importance (FI). Permutation feature importance (PFI) is a well-established
model-agnostic measure to obtain global FI based on feature marginalization of
absent features. We propose an efficient, model-agnostic algorithm called iPFI
to estimate this measure incrementally and under dynamic modeling conditions including
concept drift. We prove theoretical guarantees on the approximation quality in
terms of expectation and variance. To validate our theoretical findings and the
efficacy of our approaches in incremental scenarios dealing with streaming data
rather than traditional batch settings, we conduct multiple experimental studies
on benchmark data with and without concept drift.

  text:
Abstract
The use of static analysis security
testing (SAST) tools has been increasing in recent years. However, previous studies
have shown that, when shipped to end users such as development or security teams,
the findings of these tools are often unsatisfying. Users report high numbers
of false positives or long analysis times, making the tools unusable in the daily
workflow. To address this, SAST tool creators provide a wide range of configuration
options, such as customization of rules through domain-specific languages or specification
of the application-specific analysis scope. In this paper, we study the configuration
space of selected existing SAST tools when used within the integrated development
environment (IDE). We focus on the configuration options that impact three dimensions,
for which a trade-off is unavoidable, i.e., precision, recall, and analysis runtime.
We perform a between-subjects user study with 40 users from multiple development
and security teams - to our knowledge, the largest population for this kind of
user study in the software engineering community. The results show that users
who configure SAST tools are more effective in resolving security vulnerabilities
detected by the tools than those using the default configuration. Based on post-study
interviews, we identify common strategies that users have while configuring the
SAST tools to provide further insights for tool creators. Finally, an evaluation
of the configuration options of two commercial SAST tools, Fortify
and CheckMarx, reveals that a quarter of the users do not understand
the configuration options provided. The configuration options that are found most
useful relate to the analysis scope.

  text:
Abstract. Workpiece property-control permits the application-oriented
and time-efficient production of components. In reverse flow forming, for example,
a control of the microstructure profile is not yet part of the state of the art,
in contrast to the geometry control. This is, due to several reasons, particularly
challenging when forming seamless tubes made of metastable austenitic stainless
AISI 304L steel. Inducing mechanical and/or thermal energy can cause a phase transformation
from austenite to martensite within this steel. The resulting α’-martensite has
different mechanical and micromagnetic properties, which can be advantageous depending
on the application. For purposes of local property control, the resulting α’-martensite
content should be measured and controlled online during the forming process. This
paper presents results from the usage of a custom developed cryo-system and different
application strategies to use liquid nitrogen as a coolant for local enhancement
of the forming-temperature depending α’-martensite content.

commonly used in quantum‐dot systems to generate polarization entanglement yields
photons with intrinsically limited indistinguishability. In the present work,
it focuses on the generation of pairs of photons with high degrees of polarization
entanglement and simultaneously high indistinguishability. It achieves this goal
by selectively reducing the biexciton lifetime with an optical resonator. It demonstrates
that a suitably tailored circular Bragg reflector fulfills the requirements of
sufficient selective Purcell enhancement of biexciton emission paired with spectrally
broad photon extraction and twofold degenerate optical modes. The in‐depth theoretical
study combines (i) the optimization of realistic photonic structures solving Maxwell's
equations from which model parameters are extracted as input for (ii) microscopic
simulations of quantum‐dot cavity excitation dynamics with full access to photon
properties. It reports non‐trivial dependencies on system parameters and use the
predictive power of the combined theoretical approach to determine the optimal
range of Purcell enhancement that maximizes indistinguishability and entanglement
to near unity values, here specifically for the telecom C‐band at 1550 nm.

  text:
Abstract
The constantly increasing challenges
of production technology for the economic and resource-saving production of metallic
workpieces require, among other things, the optimisation of existing processes.
Forming technology, which is confronted with new challenges regarding the quality
of the workpieces, must also organise the individual processes more efficiently
and at the same time more reliably in order to be able to guarantee good workpiece
quality and at the same time to be able to produce economically. One way to meet
these challenges is to carry out the forming processes in closed-loop control
systems using softsensors. Despite the many potential applications of softsensors
in the field of forming technology, there is still no definition of the term softsensor.
This publication therefore proposes a definition of the softsensor based on the
definition of a sensor and the distinction from the observer, which on the one
hand is intended to stimulate scientific discourse and on the other hand is also
intended to form the basis for further scientific work. Based on this definition,
a wide variety of highly topical application examples of various softsensors in
the field of forming technology are given.

text: Cooperative Driving requires ultra-reliable communications, and it is now
clear that no single technology will ever be able to satisfy such stringent requirements,
if only because active jamming can kill (almost) any wireless technology. Cooperative
driving with multiple communication technologies which complement each other opens
new spaces for research and development, but also poses several challenges. The
work we present tackles the fallback and recovery mechanisms that the longitudinal
controlling system of a platoon of vehicles can implement as a distributed system
with multiple communication interfaces. We present a protocol and procedure to
correctly compute the safe transition between different controlling algorithms,
down to autonomous (or manual) driving when no communication is possible. To empower
the study, we also develop a new version of PLEXE, which is an integral part of
this contribution as the only Open Source, free simulation tool that enables the
study of such systems with a modular approach, and that we deem offers the community
the possibility of boosting research in this field. The results we present demonstrate
the feasibility of safe fallback, but also highlight that such complex systems
require careful design choices, as naïve approaches can lead to instabilities
or even collisions, and that such design can only be done with appropriate in-silico
    experiments.

text: Platooning is a promising application in the field of vehicular networks.
It has the potential to improve traffic flow, but also road safety. However, unreliable
communication has strong negative effects on platoon stability and, thus, safety
on roads. To improve reliability, in this work, we propose using multi-hop communication
for platooning using the Decode and Forward (DF) Full-Duplex Relaying (FDR) scheme
together with beamforming. We use computer simulations to demonstrate that FDR
latency has no observable negative effect on string stability or safety even while
performing an emergency brake. We further show that this combined approach reaches
a constant Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) of 100 % even in situations with high interference
and/or congestion, where traditional approaches fail.

text: 'We study the suitability of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as purely opportunistic
airborne virtual network infrastructure to support urban wireless networks, specifically
in two Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) use cases: First, UAVs being used as relays
for cooperative awareness applications; second, UAVs being used to coordinate
channel access for platooning in urban areas. We do not require that these UAVs
alter trajectory nor speed from those of their random, unrelated primary missions,
so that these additional tasks can be executed with close-to-zero impact on the
execution of their primary missions. Based on extensive computer simulations we
show that, within a wide band of acceptable speeds, flight routes (up to a standard
deviation of 300 m from the optimum) as well as altitudes, opportunistic relaying
of transmissions via UAVs can yield a benefit to system performance that is on
the same order of magnitude as that of optimally deployed UAVs. We further show
that an opportunistic channel access control can reduce the total number of packet
collisions by approx. 86 % compared to a scenario without any UAVs. Moreover,
much of the reduction in impact due to suboptimal missions can be recovered simply
by moderately increasing the number of UAVs.'

text: Many exciting future research topics in the field of Cooperative Autonomous
Vehicles (CAVs) require the simulation of both connectivity and automation components.
However, existing simulation tools focus on only one of these two aspects while
making idealistic assumptions about the other. In this work, we motivate the use
of established libraries such as gRPC to couple existing independent simulation
tools tailored to either connectivity or automation, and demonstrate the feasibility
of such an approach. We also describe an Open Source reference implementation
    coupling CARLA and Veins.
