  text: We demonstrate the numerical and experimental realization of optimized optical
    traveling-wave antennas made of low-loss dielectric materials. These antennas
    exhibit highly directive radiation patterns and our studies reveal that this nature
    comes from two dominant guided TE modes excited in the waveguide-like director
    of the antenna, in addition to the leaky modes. The optimized antennas possess
    a broadband nature and have a nearunity radiation efficiency at an operational
    wavelength of 780 nm. Compared to the previously studied plasmonic antennas for
    photon emission, our all-dielectric approach demonstrates a new class of highly
    directional, low-loss, and broadband optical antennas.

  text: It is generally assumed that language (written and spoken) follows the entropy
    rate constancy (ERC) principle, which states that the information density of a
    text is constant over time. Recently, this has also been found for nonverbal gestures
    used in monologue, but it is still unclear whether the ERC principle also applies
    to listeners' nonverbal signals. We focus on listeners' gaze behaviour extracted
    from video-recorded conversations and trained a transformer-based neural sequence
    model to process the gaze data of the dialogues and compute its information density.
    We also compute the information density of the corresponding speech using a pre-trained
    language model. Our results show (1) that listeners' gaze behaviour in dialogues
    roughly follows the ERC principle, as well as (2) a congruence between information
    density of speech and listeners' gaze behaviour.

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The biexciton‐exciton emission cascade
    commonly used in quantum‐dot systems to generate polarization entanglement yields
    photons with intrinsically limited indistinguishability. In the present work,
    it focuses on the generation of pairs of photons with high degrees of polarization
    entanglement and simultaneously high indistinguishability. It achieves this goal
    by selectively reducing the biexciton lifetime with an optical resonator. It demonstrates
    that a suitably tailored circular Bragg reflector fulfills the requirements of
    sufficient selective Purcell enhancement of biexciton emission paired with spectrally
    broad photon extraction and twofold degenerate optical modes. The in‐depth theoretical
    study combines (i) the optimization of realistic photonic structures solving Maxwell's
    equations from which model parameters are extracted as input for (ii) microscopic
    simulations of quantum‐dot cavity excitation dynamics with full access to photon
    properties. It reports non‐trivial dependencies on system parameters and use the
    predictive power of the combined theoretical approach to determine the optimal
    range of Purcell enhancement that maximizes indistinguishability and entanglement
    to near unity values, here specifically for the telecom C‐band at 1550 nm.</jats:p>

  text: <jats:p>Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) show near
    unity efficiency, low dark count rate, and short recovery time. Combining these
    characteristics with temporal control of SNSPDs broadens their applications as
    in active de-latching for higher dynamic range counting or temporal filtering
    for pump-probe spectroscopy or LiDAR. To that end, we demonstrate active gating
    of an SNSPD with a minimum off-to-on rise time of 2.4 ns and a total gate length
    of 5.0 ns. We show how the rise time depends on the inductance of the detector
    in combination with the control electronics. The gate window is demonstrated to
    be fully and freely, electrically tunable up to 500 ns at a repetition rate of
    1.0 MHz, as well as ungated, free-running operation. Control electronics to generate
    the gating are mounted on the 2.3 K stage of a closed-cycle sorption cryostat,
    while the detector is operated on the cold stage at 0.8 K. We show that the efficiency
    and timing jitter of the detector is not altered during the on-time of the gating
    window. We exploit gated operation to demonstrate a method to increase in the
    photon counting dynamic range by a factor 11.2, as well as temporal filtering
    of a strong pump in an emulated pump-probe experiment.</jats:p>

  text: In this paper, the influence of the environment on an inductive location system
    is analyzed. In the inductive location method, high frequency magnetic fields
    generated by planar coils lead to induction in other coils, which is used for
    localization analysis. Magnetic fields are not affected by changes in the dielectric
    properties of the environment, which is an advantage over other localization methods.
    However, electrical material parameters can still affect the localization results
    by indirect effects. For this reason, in this publication the influence will be
    investigated using real material parameters and their effects on the localization
    will be considered, so that the robustness and the limits of the inductive localization
    can be evaluated.

  text: In real-world debates, the most common way to counter an argument is to reason
    against its main point, that is, its conclusion. Existing work on the automatic
    generation of natural language counter-arguments does not address the relation
    to the conclusion, possibly because many arguments leave their conclusion implicit.
    In this paper, we hypothesize that the key to effective counter-argument generation
    is to explicitly model the argument‘s conclusion and to ensure that the stance
    of the generated counter is opposite to that conclusion. In particular, we propose
    a multitask approach that jointly learns to generate both the conclusion and the
    counter of an input argument. The approach employs a stance-based ranking component
    that selects the counter from a diverse set of generated candidates whose stance
    best opposes the generated conclusion. In both automatic and manual evaluation,
    we provide evidence that our approach generates more relevant and stance-adhering
    counters than strong baselines.

  text: "The nickel-based alloy Inconel 718, which is used in aerospace technology,
    poses a great\r\nchallenge to conventional machining due to its high strain hardening
    and toughness. Here, the laser\r\npowder bed fusion process (LPBF) offers an alternative
    with potential savings if sufficiently high\r\nproductivity can be achieved. Based
    on the parameter study carried out, starting from the SLM\r\nSolutions standard
    parameters for the manufacturing of components, exposure parameters could be\r\ndeveloped
    to realize manufacturing with 120 μm and 150 μm layer thickness, with almost the
    same\r\ngeometric accuracy. For this purpose, the process parameters of laser
    power, focus diameter, hatch\r\ndistance and scan speed were varied. The negative
    defocusing of the laser showed a positive effect\r\non the density of the parts,
    realizing densities ≥ 99.94 %, with high dimensional stability and good\r\nmechanical
    properties. Considering the reduced manufacturing time of up to 61 %, a significant\r\nincrease
    in productivity was achieved."

  text: The focus towards multi-material and lightweight assemblies, driven by legal
    requirements on reducing emissions and energy consumptions, reveals important
    drawbacks and disadvantages of established joining processes, such as welding.
    In this context, mechanical joining technologies, such as clinching, are becoming
    more and more relevant especially in the automotive industry. However, the availability
    of only few standards and almost none systematic design methods causes a still
    very time- and cost-intensive assembly development process considering mainly
    expert knowledge and a considerable amount of experimental studies. Motivated
    by this, the presented work introduces a novel approach for the methodical design
    and dimensioning of mechanically clinched assemblies. Therefore, the utilization
    of regression models, such as machine learning algorithms, combined with manufacturing
    knowledge ensures a reliable estimation of individual clinched joint characteristics.
    In addition, the implementation of an engineering workbench enables the following
    data-driven and knowledge-based generation of high-quality initial assembly designs
    already in early product development phases. In a subsequent analysis and adjustment,
    these designs are being improved while guaranteeing joining safety and loading
    conformity. The presented results indicate that the methodological approach can
    pave the way to a more systematic design process of mechanical joining assemblies,
    which can significantly shorten the required number of iteration loops and therefore
    the product development time.
