text: 'Human-AI collaboration is increasingly promoted to improve high-stakes decision-making,
yet its benefits have not been fully realized. Application-grounded evaluations
are needed to better evaluate methods for improving collaboration but often require
domain experts, making studies costly and limiting their generalizability. Current
evaluation methods are constrained by limited public datasets and reliance on
proxy tasks. To address these challenges, we propose an application-grounded framework
for large-scale, online evaluations of vision-based decision-making tasks. The
framework introduces Blockies, a parametric approach for generating datasets of
simulated diagnostic tasks, offering control over the traits and biases in the
data used to train real-world models. These tasks are designed to be easy to learn
but difficult to master, enabling participation by non-experts. The framework
also incorporates storytelling and monetary incentives to manipulate perceived
task stakes. An initial empirical study demonstrated that the high-stakes condition
significantly reduced healthy distrust of AI, despite longer decision-making times.
These findings underscore the importance of perceived stakes in fostering healthy
distrust and demonstrate the framework''s potential for scalable evaluation of
    high-stakes Human-AI collaboration. '

  text:
Abstract
The interaction of water molecules
with semiconductor surfaces is relevant to various optoelectronic phenomena and
physicochemical processes. Despite advances in fundamental understanding of water‐exposed
surfaces, the detailed time‐ and energy‐resolved behavior of excited electrons
remains largely unexplored. Here, the effects of water exposure on the near‐surface
electron dynamics of phosphorus‐terminated p(2×2)/c(4×2)‐reconstructed indium
phosphide (100) (P‐rich InP) are studied experimentally and matched to theoretical
calculations. The P‐rich InP surface, consisting of H‐passivated P‐dimers, serves
as a model for other P‐containing III‐V semiconductors such as gallium phosphide
(GaP) or aluminum indium phosphide (AlInP). Electron dynamics near the surface
are probed with femtosecond resolution using time‐resolved two‐photon photoemission
(tr‐2PPE), a pump‐probe spectroscopic technique. Pulsed water exposure preserves
electronic states and significantly increases lifetimes at the conduction band
minimum (CBM). Density‐functional theory (DFT) calculations attribute these findings
to suppression of surface vibrational modes in the top P‐layer by water exposure,
reducing electronic transition probabilities of near‐band‐gap surface states.
The results suggest that many near‐surface state lifetimes reported in ultra‐high
vacuum may change significantly upon electrolyte exposure. These states may thus
contribute more strongly to surface reactions than traditionally assumed. Demonstrating
this effect for the technologically relevant P‐rich InP surface opens new opportunities
in this underexplored area of surface electrochemistry.

text: 'This study investigated how action histories – unfolding sequences of actions
with objects – provide a context for both attentional allocation and linguistic
repair strategies. Building on theories of enactive cognition and sensorimotor
contingency theory, we experimentally manipulated action sequences (action history)
to create either simple or rich “situational models,” and investigated how these
models interact with attention and reflect in linguistic processes during human–robot
interaction. Participants (N = 30) engaged in a controlled object placement task
with a humanoid robot, where the action (manner) information was either provided
or omitted. The omission elicited repair behaviors in participants that were in
focus of our investigation. For rich models (competing action possibilities) participants
demonstrated: a) increased attentional reorientation, reflecting active engagement
with the situational model b) preference for restricted repairs, targeting the
specific source of trouble in action selection. Conversely, a simple situational
model led to more generalized attention patterns and open repair strategies, suggesting
weaker constraints on internal processing. These findings highlight how situational
structures emerge externally to scaffold internal cognitive processes, with action
histories serving as a crucial context for the interface between perception, action,
and language. We discuss how to implement such a tight loop in the assistance
    of a system.'

text: "We introduce a method to study online language processes in human--robot
interactive setup. In this interaction, language mediated eye movements can be
studied as the dialogue unfolds between human and a robot. \r\nTraditionally,
real-time linguistic processes are studied using visual world paradigms (VWP),
where either the comprehension or the production tasks are implemented on screens
for controlled investigations. Going beyond these traditional and unidirectional
approach, we bring together production--comprehension loop with the help of a
humanoid robot to preserve interactivity in an ecologically valid yet controlled
setup. We discuss the potential of such setups for designing and evaluating findings
from language--vision interplay in psycholinguistics. Our setup shows a potential
to depart from traditional screen based experiments, balancing the dynamics of
the interaction with control of the human behaviors. "

text: Straight dielectric waveguide channels made from slabs of thin-film lithium
niobate (TFLN), or lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI), are investigated in the
linear regime, for channels of rib and strip type with common trapezoidal cross
sections, in Z-cut and X-cut samples at varying on-chip orientation. We clarify
the theoretical basis for the waveguides with potentially non-diagonal core permittivity.
Symmetry classes can be distinguished that differ in their consequences for potential
modal degeneracy and polarization conversion. Our rigorous numerical analysis
by means of a finite-element solver takes the anisotropy of the lithium niobate
cores rigorously into account. We discuss extensive data for effective indices,
polarization properties, and hybridization of guided modes, in single- and multimode
channels. Scans over the waveguide width and orientation as primary parameters
are complemented by a series of illustrations of vectorial mode profiles. These
turn out to be essentially complex in cases of X-cut channels at non-crystal-axis-aligned
    orientations.

  text:
Fuzzing is a powerful software testing technique renowned for its
effectiveness in identifying software vulnerabilities. Traditional fuzzing evaluations
typically focus on overall fuzzer performance across a set of target programs,
yet few benchmarks consider how fine-grained program features influence fuzzing
effectiveness. To bridge this gap, we introduce FeatureBench, a novel benchmark
designed to generate programs with configurable, fine-grained program features
to enhance fuzzing evaluations. We reviewed 25 recent grey-box fuzzing studies,
extracting 7 program features related to control-flow and data-flow that can impact
fuzzer performance. Using these features, we generated a benchmark consisting
of 153 programs controlled by 10 fine-grained configurable parameters. We evaluated
11 fuzzers using this benchmark, with each fuzzer representing either distinct
claimed improvements or serving as a widely used baseline in fuzzing evaluations.
The results indicate that fuzzer performance varies significantly based on the
program features and their strengths, highlighting the importance of incorporating
    program characteristics into fuzzing evaluations.

text: We present a topology-optimized silicon nitride (Si3N4) coupler designed to
enhance the coupling efficiency between integrated single-photon emitters and
photonic waveguide modes. By leveraging inverse design techniques, we optimize
the coupler’s geometry to maximize power transfer while maintaining fabrication
feasibility by improving mode overlap and directional emission, addressing the
challenge of low coupling efficiency caused by size mismatch and material incompatibility.
Simulations demonstrate a substantial enhancement in photon extraction and waveguide
coupling. This approach can be extended to other photonic devices, offering a
versatile framework for improving quantum light-matter interactions in integrated
    photonics.

  text:
Abstract. Within the punch-bending process semi-finished products
of strip or wire material are formed and punched in several subsequent steps into
a finished product like brackets, mounts, contacts or spring elements. In the
context of those multi-stage straightening and bending processes, cross-stage
and quantity-dependent effects significantly leads to undesired component deviations.
To optimize the punch-bending process with regard to these component deviations
and thus the waste rate, the concept of a hybrid data-driven model is presented.
To automatically acquire and process this hybrid data while also enable the usage
by multiple clients, a digital twin has to be developed. In this paper the communication
infrastructure between the punch-bending system and the digital twin is presented,
using the Asset Administration Shell as specification. This automated communication
is validated using exemplary data from the punch-bending system.

  text:
Abstract. Flow forming is recognized for its precision in producing
rotationally symmetric components, but the use of metastable austenitic stainless
steel (AISI 304L) introduces challenges due to uncontrolled strain-induced α’
martensite formation. Variations in factors such as eccentricity and batch inconsistencies
lead to unpredictable microstructural profiles, limiting reproducibility [1,2].
This study addresses these issues by incorporating thermal actuators for cryogenic
cooling and induction heating to regulate forming temperatures, enabling control
of the α’-martensite content. Experimental investigations demonstrate that local
tempering during thermomechanical reverse flow forming produces discernible variations
in microstructure, affecting mechanical and magnetic properties [3]. Controlled
local adjustments of α’-martensite content allow for customization of properties
in seamless tubes, advancing manufacturing capabilities for complex, defect-free
components. The results presented demonstrate promising strategies for implementation
within the context of closed-loop property control in flow forming.

  text: "
Abstract
\r\n
This paper presents
a characterization of the microstructural evolution and its correlation with the

steel AISI 304L. The plastic deformation triggers a phase transformation of the
    metastable austenite into α’-martensite.
\r\n
Depending
on the combination of production parameters, different fractions of strain-induced
α’-martensite were measured by means non-destructive micromagnetic techniques
and correlated with the evolution of hardness and the microstructure using electron
backscatter diffraction analyses. The magneto-optical Kerr effect analysis was
used as a tool to perform a qualitative analysis of the evolution of the magnetic
domain structure correlated with the formation of α’-martensite. An analysis of
these data allowed to derive surface magnetization hysteresis loops that were
compared with integral hysteresis loops of the specimens. It was proven by both
methods that the formation of martensite increases the magnetic energy and the
spontaneous magnetization of the specimens. The results of this investigation
contribute to a better understanding of micromagnetic sensors to monitor and control
the formation of α’-martensite in a flow forming. Furthermore, various techniques
have demonstrated the evolution of the magnetic properties of the material, which
can be applied in applications for invisible coding of workpieces.
"

  text:
Abstract. The incremental flow forming process features a large number
of process parameter combinations that can be varied from pass to pass or during
a pass. In the future however, a more efficient utilization of this large number
of process parameter combinations and a compensation of process disturbances could
be required. This is due to a rising demand for increasing the part complexity,
e.g. by graded property structures or a more complex geometry. In this context,
innovative approaches like closed-loop property control and optimal control are
advantageous, but require fast process models of flow forming that are not state
of the art. This paper thus proposes a new modelling approach of multi-pass flow
forming especially taking the transfer behavior between process parameters and
wall thickness evolution from pass to pass into focus. A hybrid modelling approach
is developed that combines knowledge about the incremental process character with
empirical data regression to a basic analytic relation. The basic relation is
further extended by a multi-layer neural network to enhance the overall model
accuracy. This hybrid modelling approach is finally validated using experimental
data. Thus, it is shown that a suitable model structure was found in context of
a future closed-loop control or optimal control for multi-pass flow forming.
