The circuit design of the two most important system blocks of the sliced receiver baseband architecture, namely the broadband, programmable code-generator circuit, and the integrate and dump correlator circuit are explained. Using parallel sequence spread spectrum (PSSS) with PAM-4 modulated data, a net data rate of 2.22 Gbps is demonstrated with a single receiver baseband slice circuit working with a chip rate of 20 Gcps. A total of 15 slices are required to recover all 15 parallelly transmitted symbols resulting in the net data rate of 33.33 Gbps. Pulsed laser radiation is used to thermoacoustically excite broadband ultrasonic waves in a multi-layered sample, consisting of a metal plate adhesively joined to a polymeric layer using synthetic resin. The resulting signals are received by a purpose-built piezoelectric transducer. Varying the distance between excitation and detection yields spatio-temporal measurement data, from which the dispersive properties of the propagating waves can be inferred using a two-dimensional Fourier transform, assuming the plates to act as coupled waveguides. Coupled multi-layered waveguides show an effect referred to as <jats:italic>mode repulsion</jats:italic>, where the distance between certain modes in the frequency-wavenumber domain is assumed to be a measure of coupling strength. Measurements at different stages of curing of the adhesive layer are performed and evaluated. Due to real-time constraints, the major\r\nchallenge in MPC is to solve model-based optimal control problems in a very\r\nshort amount of time. For linear-quadratic problems, Bemporad et al. have\r\nproposed an explicit formulation where the underlying optimization problems are\r\nsolved a priori in an offline phase. In this article, we present an extension\r\nof this concept in two significant ways. We consider nonlinear problems and -\r\nmore importantly - problems with multiple conflicting objective functions. In\r\nthe offline phase, we build a library of Pareto optimal solutions from which we\r\nthen obtain a valid compromise solution in the online phase according to a\r\ndecision maker's preference. Since the standard multi-parametric programming\r\napproach is no longer valid in this situation, we instead use interpolation\r\nbetween different entries of the library. To reduce the number of problems that\r\nhave to be solved in the offline phase, we exploit symmetries in the dynamical\r\nsystem and the corresponding multiobjective optimal control problem. Reliable Obstacle avoidance is an integral part of autonomous navigation. This involves real time interpretation and processing of a complex environment. Strict time and energy constraints of a mobile autonomous system make efficient computation extremely desirable. The benefits of employing Hardware/Software co-designed applications are obvious and significant. Hardware accelerators are used for efficient processing of the algorithms by exploiting parallelism. FPGAs are a class of hardware accelerators, which\r\ncan contain hundreds of small execution units, and can be used for Hardware/Software co-designed application. However, there is a reluctance when it comes to adoption of these devices in well established application domains, such as Robotics, due to a steep learning curve needed for FPGA application design. ReconROS has successfully bridged the gap between robotic and FPGA application development, by providing an intuitive, common development platform for robotic application development for FPGA. It does so by integrating Robotics Operating System(ROS) which is an industry and academia standard for robotics application development, with ReconOS, an operating system for re-configurable hardware. In this thesis an obstacle avoidance system is designed and implemented for an autonomous vehicle using ReconROS.
