              <jats:title>Purpose</jats:title>
              <jats:p>Our aim was to assess alignment in timing of ‘highest caloric intake’ with individual chronotype and its association with body composition in adolescents.</jats:p>
            </jats:sec><jats:sec>
              <jats:title>Methods</jats:title>
              <jats:p>We used repeatedly collected data from <jats:italic>n</jats:italic> = 196 adolescents (age 9–16 years, providing <jats:italic>N</jats:italic> = 401 yearly questionnaires) of the DONALD open cohort study. Chronotype was assessed by the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire from which midpoint of sleep (MSFsc) was derived. A sex- and age-specific diet-chrono-alignment score (DCAS) was calculated as the difference in hours between the chronotype-specific median timing of highest caloric intake of the studied population and the individual timing of ‘highest caloric intake’ or vice versa. Repeated-measures regression models were applied to study cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between the DCAS and body composition, e.g., Fat Mass Index (FMI) or Fat Free Mass Index (FFMI).</jats:p>
            </jats:sec><jats:sec>
              <jats:title>Results</jats:title>
              <jats:p>DCAS ranged from −6:42 h to + 8:01 h and was not associated with body composition. Among adolescents with a later chronotype (<jats:italic>N</jats:italic> = 201) a 1 h increase in DCAS (later consumption of ‘highest caloric intake’ in comparison to the median intake of that group), increased FFMI by 1.92 kg/m<jats:sup>2</jats:sup> (95% CI: 0.15, 3.69, <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> value = 0.04) over a median follow-up of 0.94 year.</jats:p>
            </jats:sec><jats:sec>
              <jats:title>Conclusion</jats:title>
              <jats:p>Alignment of energy intake with individual chronotype appears beneficial for FFMI among those with a late chronotype.</jats:p>

  abstract     = {{<jats:p>Bacterial colonization and biofilm formation on abiotic surfaces are initiated by the adhesion of peptides and proteins. Understanding the adhesion of such peptides and proteins at a molecular level thus represents an important step toward controlling and suppressing biofilm formation on technological and medical materials. This study investigates the molecular adhesion of a pilus‐derived peptide that facilitates biofilm formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a multidrug‐resistant opportunistic pathogen frequently encountered in healthcare settings. Single‐molecule force spectroscopy (SMFS) was performed on chemically etched ZnO surfaces to gather insights about peptide adsorption force and its kinetics. Metal‐free click chemistry for the fabrication of peptide‐terminated SMFS cantilevers was performed on amine‐terminated gold cantilevers and verified by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and polarization‐modulated infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM‐IRRAS). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and XPS analyses reveal stable topographies and surface chemistries of the substrates that are not affected by SMFS. Rupture events described by the worm‐like chain model (WLC) up to 600 pN were detected for the non‐polar ZnO(11‐20) surfaces. The dissociation barrier energy at zero force ΔG(0), the transition state distance xb and bound‐unbound dissociation rate at zero force koff(0) for the single crystalline substrate indicate that coordination and hydrogen bonds dominate the peptide/surface interaction.</jats:p>}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:p>We report a titanium indiffused waveguide resonator featuring an integrated electro-optic modulator for cavity length stabilisation that produces close to 5 dB of squeezed light at 1550 nm (2.4 dB directly measured). The resonator is locked on resonance for tens of minutes with 70 mW of SH light incident on the cavity, demonstrating that photorefraction can be mitigated. Squeezed light production concurrent with cavity length stabilisation utilising the integrated EOM is demonstrated. The device demonstrates the suitability of this platform for squeezed light generation in network applications, where stabilisation to the reference field is typically necessary.</jats:p>}},

  abstract     = {{This article presents the results of the implementation of the Erasmus Plus project (KA203 financed by the European Union, contract number 2019-1-NL01-KA203-060339) Research in Teacher Education (RiTE). The aim of the project was to promote and facilitate pre-service teachers to create and undertake evidence-based practices in teaching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In the RiTE project, pre-service teachers were encouraged to use evidence from educational and scientific research and to experiment and introduce didactic innovations in teaching and learning processes. Although it has its justification in the tradition of thinking about science, evidence-based practice is not yet consciously applied in school practice. In the article, we present both the theoretical framework for such practices, and the results of qualitative research – an analysis of interviews conducted with students, future teachers, and novice teachers involved in the project. The presented results show changes in the context of an understanding of evidence and what evidence-based practices are in the teaching process and the vision of such teaching presented by the respondents.}},

  abstract     = {{The present study investigates participants' performance in two different mental body-rotation tasks (MBRTs) under conditions in which dynamic stability is challenged in two different balancing conditions: active balance control (Experiment 1), where participants actively maneuver, and re-active balance control (Experiment 2), where participants react to an external perturbation. The two MBRTs induced either an object-based spatial transformation (based on a same-different judgment) or an egocentric transformation (based on a left-right judgment). In Experiment 1, 48 participants were tested while standing on an even ground (low balancing requirements) or on a balance board (high balancing requirements). In Experiment 2, 32 participants performed while either standing still on a vibration plate or with the vibration plate moving in a low (20 Hz) or high (180 Hz) frequency. In both experiments, the results for response time and response error revealed effects of rotation angle and type of task. An effect of balancing condition was only observed for response error in Experiment 1. More precisely, response times and response errors increased for higher rotation angles. Also, performance was better for egocentric than for object-based spatial transformations. However, the different challenges to dynamic stability in Experiments 1 and 2 did not influence performance in the two MBRTs (except for response errors in Experiment 1) nor in a control condition (Experiment 1) without mental rotation.}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:p>The alignment of liquid crystals on surfaces plays a central role in optimizing their performances. In this work, a cutting-edge nano-lithography-based method to control the local orientation of a thermotropic liquid crystal is applied to easily available commercial standard materials and evaluated. Parallel nanogrooves on a substrate, created through 3D nanoprinting in a negative-tone photoresin optimized for two-photon polymerization are used for this purpose. Azimuthal anchoring energies of the order from 10<jats:sup>−6</jats:sup> J/m<jats:sup>2</jats:sup> to 10<jats:sup>−5</jats:sup> J/m<jats:sup>2</jats:sup> are found, depending on the spacing, width and depth of the grooves. In part, these values are larger than those reported previously for another photopolymer. Both uniform alignment and spatial patterns of different alignment directions can be realized. Electro-optic studies confirm the suitability of the method for electrically addressable photonic applications and indicate strong polar anchoring.</jats:p>}},

              <jats:p>Wearables serve to quantify the on-court activity in intermittent sports such as field hockey (FH). Based on objective data, benchmarks can be determined to tailor training intensity and volume. Next to average and accumulated values, the most intense periods (MIPs) during competitive FH matches are of special interest, since these quantify the peak intensities players experience throughout the intermittent matches. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare peak intensities between training and competition sessions in a male FH team competing in the first german division.</jats:p>
            </jats:sec><jats:sec>
              <jats:title>Methods</jats:title>
              <jats:p>Throughout an 8-week in-season period, 372 individual activity datasets (144 datasets from competitive sessions) were recorded using the Polar Team Pro sensor (Kempele, Finland). MIPs were calculated applying a rolling window approach with predefined window length (1–5 min) and calculated for Total distance, High-Intensity-Running distance (&gt; 16 km/h), Sprinting distance (&gt; 20 km/h) and Acceleration load. Significant differences between training and competition MIPs were analysed through non-parametric statistical tests (<jats:italic>P</jats:italic> &lt; 0.05).</jats:p>
            </jats:sec><jats:sec>
              <jats:title>Results</jats:title>
              <jats:p>Analyses revealed higher MIPs during competition for all considered outcomes (<jats:italic>P</jats:italic> &lt; 0.001). Effect size estimation revealed strongest effects for sprinting distance (<jats:italic>d</jats:italic> = 1.89 to <jats:italic>d</jats:italic> = 1.22) and lowest effect sizes for acceleration load (<jats:italic>d</jats:italic> = 0.92 to <jats:italic>d</jats:italic> = 0.49).</jats:p>
            </jats:sec><jats:sec>
              <jats:title>Conclusion</jats:title>
              <jats:p>The present findings demonstrate that peak intensities during training do not reach those experienced during competitive sessions in a male FH team. Training routines such as manipulations of court-dimensions and team sizes might contribute to this discrepancy. Coaches should compare training and competition intensities to recalibrate training routines to optimize athletes’ preparation for competition.</jats:p>

  abstract     = {{The biexciton-exciton emission cascade commonly used in quantum-dot systems to generate polarization entanglement yields photons with intrinsically limited indistinguishability. In the present work we focus on the generation of pairs of photons with high degrees of polarization entanglement and simultaneously high indistinguishibility. We achieve this goal by selectively reducing the biexciton lifetime with an optical resonator. We demonstrate that a suitably tailored circular Bragg reflector fulfills the requirements of sufficient selective Purcell enhancement of biexciton emission paired with spectrally broad photon extraction and two-fold degenerate optical modes. Our in-depth theoretical study combines (i) the optimization of realistic photonic structures solving Maxwell's equations from which model parameters are extracted as input for (ii) microscopic simulations of quantum-dot cavity excitation dynamics with full access to photon properties. We report non-trivial dependencies on system parameters and use the predictive power of our combined theoretical approach to determine the optimal range of Purcell enhancement that maximizes indistinguishability and entanglement to near unity values in the telecom C-band at $1550\,\mathrm{nm}$.}},

  abstract     = {{Eine Forderung nach evidenzbasierter Praxis (EBP) im Bildungswesen kann sowohl vor dem Hintergrund der Bedeutung wissenschaftlicher Evidenzen innerhalb gesellschaftlicher Diskurse als auch der Evidenzbasierung in anderen Bereichen formuliert werden. Der Umgang mit und die Bewertung von Evidenzen stellen somit vor dem Hintergrund epistemologischer Überzeugungen relevante Aufgaben für den Chemieunterricht dar. Dabei ist unklar, inwiefern (angehende) Lehrkräfte über Kompetenzen in EBP verfügen. Bestehende Studien weisen auf einen Bedarf der fachdidaktischen Analyse und Förderung von Kompetenzen in EBP bei angehenden Lehrkräften hin.Im Rahmen dieser Dissertation wurde die Domänenspezifität der Kompetenzen in EBP sowie deren Förderung in einem fachdidaktischen Kontext untersucht. Dabei wurde ein weiterer Schwerpunkt auf den Umgang mit anomalen Beobachtungen im Sinne widersprüchlicher Evidenzen gelegt. Innerhalb von drei Teilstudien wurden unterschiedliche methodische Zugänge zur Kompetenz in EBP auf Grundlage epistemologischer Überzeugungen gewählt.Die Ergebnisse weisen auf einen Förderbedarf der Kompetenz in EBP für angehende Lehrkräfte aller Unterrichtsfächer hin. Eine entwickelte Intervention für angehende Chemielehrkräfte weist eine Wirksamkeit zur Förderung von Kompetenzen in EBP auf. Im Rahmen einer Modellierungsstudie kann der Einfluss von Fachwissen sowie Indizien für einen Einfluss epistemologischer Überzeugungen auf den Umgang mit anomalen Beobachtungen gezeigt werden.}},
