Both materials contain the same phosphonato-sulfonate linker molecule, but have clearly different crystal structures, which has a strong effect on proton conductivity. In the Pb-based metal-organic framework, in contrast, no extended hydrogen bonding occurs, as the sulfonate groups coordinate to Pb2+, without forming hydrogen bonds; the proton conductivity is much lower in this material.
","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology","doi":"10.3762/bjnano.13.36","main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://www.beilstein-journals.org/bjnano/content/pdf/2190-4286-13-36.pdf"}],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2023-03-03T08:37:14Z","article_type":"original","intvolume":" 13","title":"The role of sulfonate groups and hydrogen bonding in the proton conductivity of two coordination networks","year":"2022","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2190-4286"]},"author":[{"full_name":"Javed, Ali","first_name":"Ali","last_name":"Javed"},{"full_name":"Steinke, Felix","first_name":"Felix","last_name":"Steinke"},{"full_name":"Wöhlbrandt, Stephan","first_name":"Stephan","last_name":"Wöhlbrandt"},{"full_name":"Bunzen, Hana","first_name":"Hana","last_name":"Bunzen"},{"first_name":"Norbert","last_name":"Stock","full_name":"Stock, Norbert"},{"orcid":"0000-0003-1711-2722","last_name":"Tiemann","first_name":"Michael","full_name":"Tiemann, Michael","id":"23547"}],"oa":"1","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"apa":"Javed, A., Steinke, F., Wöhlbrandt, S., Bunzen, H., Stock, N., &#38; Tiemann, M. The films were differentiated in terms of porosity and roughness. The XPS N1s core levels of the N2 gas in presence of the SiO2 samples showed variations in width, binding energy and line shape. The width correlated with the surface charge induced in the dielectric films upon X-ray irradiation. The observed different binding energies observed for the N1s peak can only partly be associated with intrinsic work function differences between the samples, opening the possibility that the effect of physisorption at room temperature could be detected by a shift in the measured binding energy. However, the signals also show an increasing asymmetry with rising surface charge. This might be associated with the formation of vertical electrical gradients within the dielectric porous thin films, which complicates the assignment of binding energy positions to specific surface-related effects. With the support of Monte Carlo and first principles density functional theory calculations, the observed shifts were discussed in terms of the possible formation of transitory dipoles upon N2 physisorption within the porous SiO2 films."}],"publication":"Applied Surface Science","type":"journal_article","keyword":["Surfaces","Coatings and Films","Condensed Matter Physics","Surfaces and Interfaces","General Physics and Astronomy","General Chemistry"],"department":[{"_id":"613"},{"_id":"35"},{"_id":"2"},{"_id":"307"},{"_id":"302"},{"_id":"304"}],"date_created":"2022-10-11T08:22:25Z","status":"public","user_id":"23547","volume":604,"_id":"33691","publisher":"Elsevier BV","quality_controlled":"1","citation":{"ieee":"T. de los Arcos <i>et al.</i>, “Challenges in the interpretation of gas core levels for the determination of gas-solid interactions within dielectric porous films by ambient pressure XPS,” <i>Applied Surface Science</i>, vol. 604, Art. no. 154525, 2022, doi: <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apsusc.2022.154525\">10.1016/j.apsusc.2022.154525</a>.","apa":"de los Arcos, T., Weinberger, C., Zysk, F., Raj Damerla, V., Kollmann, S., Vieth, P., Tiemann, M., Kühne, T., &#38; Grundmeier, G. This leads to a different behavior regarding the molecular orientational freedom (‘structure of water') compared to the bulk liquid state. In addition to the pore size, the behavior is also strongly affected by the strength of the pore wall-to-water interactions, that is, the pore wall polarity. In this work, this is studied both experimentally and theoretically. The surface polarity of mesoporous silica (SiO2) is modified by functionalization with trimethylsilyl moieties, resulting in a change from a hydrophilic (pristine) to a hydrophobic pore wall. The mesopore surface is characterized by N2 and H2O sorption experiments. Those results are combined with IR spectroscopy to investigate pore wall-to-water interactions leading to different structures of water in the mesopore. Furthermore, the water's structure is studied theoretically to gain deeper insight into the interfacial interactions. For this purpose, the structure of water is analyzed by pairing densities, coordination, and angular distributions with a novel adaptation of surface-specific sum-frequency generation calculation for pore environments."}],"date_created":"2022-10-11T08:17:57Z","department":[{"_id":"613"},{"_id":"35"},{"_id":"2"},{"_id":"307"},{"_id":"304"}],"type":"journal_article","keyword":["Mechanical Engineering","Mechanics of Materials"],"status":"public","_id":"33685","publisher":"Wiley","volume":9,"user_id":"23547","citation":{"mla":"Weinberger, Christian, et al. “The Structure of Water in Silica Mesopores – Influence of the Pore Wall Polarity.” <i>Advanced Materials Interfaces</i>, vol. 9, no. 20, 2200245, Wiley, 2022, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1002/admi.202200245\">10.1002/admi.202200245</a>.","ama":"Weinberger C, Zysk F, Hartmann M, et al. Although these materials have been widely studied for a variety of applications, the mechanisms underlying the pyrolysis are yet poorly understood. This study provides a comprehensive temperature-resolved characterization of the chemical composition, morphology and crystallinity of sucrose-derived hydrochar during pyrolysis. Thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and elemental analysis have shown that the dry hydrochar loses about 41% of its dry mass due to the exothermic disintegration of oxygen-containing groups until the carbonization is completed at about 850 °C with a total carbon yield of 93%. The carbonization and aromatization of the initially furanic and keto-aliphatic structure were analyzed by 13C solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The transition from an amorphous to a nanocrystalline graphitic structure was analyzed using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The pore formation mechanism was examined by helium ion microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption measurements. However, the metasurfaces’ performance is tied to the unit cell’s efficiency and ultimately the surrounding environment it was designed for, thus reducing its applicability if exposed to altering refractive index media. Here, we report a method to increase a metasurface’s versatility by covering the high-index metasurface with a low index porous SiO2 film, protecting the metasurface from environmental changes while keeping the working efficiency unchanged. Although electroencephalographic research allows to investigate changes in cortical processing during movement, information about cortical dynamics during open-skill exercise is lacking. Therefore, the present study examines frontal brain activation during table tennis as an open-skill exercise compared to cycling exercise and a cognitive task. 21 healthy young adults conducted three blocks of table tennis, cycling and n-back task. Throughout the experiment, cortical activity was measured using 64-channel EEG system connected to a wireless amplifier. Cortical activity was analyzed calculating theta power (4–7.5 Hz) in frontocentral clusters revealed from independent component analysis. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to identify within subject differences between conditions (table tennis, cycling, n-back; p &lt; .05). ANOVA revealed main-effects of condition on theta power in frontal (p &lt; .01, ηp2 = 0.35) and frontocentral (p &lt; .01, ηp2 = 0.39) brain areas. In frontocentral brain areas, theta power was significant higher in table tennis compared to cycling (p &lt; .01, d = 1.03) and table tennis compared to the cognitive task (p &lt; .01, d = 1.06). Increases in theta power during continuous table tennis may reflect the increased demands in perception and processing of environmental stimuli during open-skill exercise. Cavities with low Q-factors are generally given less attention due to their high losses that quickly destroy quantum systems. However, bad cavities can be utilized for several applications, where lower Q-factors are required, e.g., to increase the spectral width of the cavity mode. In this work, we demonstrate that low-Q cavities can be beneficial for preparing specific electronic steady states when certain quantum states of light are applied. We investigate the interaction between quantum light with various statistics and matter represented by a Λ-type three-level system in lossy cavities, assuming that cavity losses are the dominant loss mechanism. We show that cavity losses lead to non-trivial electronic steady states that can be controlled by the loss rate and the initial statistics of the quantum fields. We discuss the mechanism of the formation of such steady states on the basis of the equations of motion and present both analytical expressions and numerical simulations for such steady states.
"}],"publication":"New Journal of Physics","issue":"6","doi":"10.1088/1367-2630/ac74d8","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"063020","intvolume":" 24","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2023-04-20T14:51:09Z","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1367-2630"]},"author":[{"id":"55958","full_name":"Rose, Hendrik","orcid":"0000-0002-3079-5428","last_name":"Rose","first_name":"Hendrik"},{"full_name":"Tikhonova, O V","last_name":"Tikhonova","first_name":"O V"},{"last_name":"Meier","first_name":"Torsten","orcid":"0000-0001-8864-2072","full_name":"Meier, Torsten","id":"344"},{"full_name":"Sharapova, Polina","first_name":"Polina","last_name":"Sharapova","id":"60286"}],"title":"Steady states of Λ-type three-level systems excited by quantum light with various photon statistics in lossy cavities","year":"2022","project":[{"_id":"52","name":"PC2: Computing Resources Provided by the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing"}],"citation":{"mla":"Rose, Hendrik, et al. “Steady States of Λ-Type Three-Level Systems Excited by Quantum Light with Various Photon Statistics in Lossy Cavities.” <i>New Journal of Physics</i>, vol. 24, no. 6, 063020, IOP Publishing, 2022, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1088/1367-2630/ac74d8\">10.1088/1367-2630/ac74d8</a>.","bibtex":"@article{Rose_Tikhonova_Meier_Sharapova_2022, title={Steady states of Λ-type three-level systems excited by quantum light with various photon statistics in lossy cavities}, volume={24}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1088/1367-2630/ac74d8\">10.1088/1367-2630/ac74d8</a>}, number={6063020}, journal={New Journal of Physics}, publisher={IOP Publishing}, author={Rose, Hendrik and Tikhonova, O V and Meier, Torsten and Sharapova, Polina}, year={2022} }","ama":"Rose H, Tikhonova OV, Meier T, Sharapova P.
