  text: "
\r\n Lateral ankle sprain (LAS) is the most common
traumatic injury, with a high recurrence rate and chronic ankle instability (CAI)
developing in ∼40% of cases. LAS leads to patho-mechanical, sensory-perceptual
and motor-behavioral deficits. Poor management of the return-to-sport (RTS) is
now considered a major cause of re-injury and development of CAI, particularly
due to the lack of validated tests and the failure of existing ones to account
for those central deficits. The first part of this topic aimed to clarify concepts
of cognitive constructs and sensory reweighting and their association with CAI.
We also aimed to identify objective RTS criteria and discuss their limits regarding
their ability to encompass central impairments. Motor-cognitive deficits have
been identified using computerized cognitive tasks and dual-task paradigms. More
specifically, deficits in visual memory, processing speed or inhibitory control
and attentional resource allocation have demonstrated reduced performance in CAI
populations. In addition, altered sensory reweighting process towards visual input
has also been observed. While objective criteria are crucial to prevent re-injury,
current evaluations remain largely subjective and central impairments are unaccounted
for in conventional RTS testing. The Ankle-GO\r\n TM\r\n
\ score was recently developed to guide clinicians in decision
making process. To date, it is the first validated score that could help to identify
patients who will RTS at the same level, those at risk of recurrence and those
who are more likely to become copers. Unfortunately, it does not target cognitive
or sensory reweighting alterations, that are both relevant in sport to manage
    gameplay demands.\r\n
"

text: We present the design and characterization of a guided-wave, bright, and highly
frequency non-degenerate parametric down-conversion (PDC) source in thin-film
lithium niobate. The source generates photon pairs with wavelengths of 815 nm
and 1550 nm, linking the visible wavelength regime with telecommunication wavelengths.
We confirm the high quality of the generated single photons by determining a value
for the heralded second-order correlation function as low as g_h^(2)=(6.7+/-1.1)*10^8-3).
Furthermore, we achieve a high spectral brightness of 0.44·10pairs/(smWGHz) which
is two orders of magnitude higher than sources based on weakly guiding waveguides.
The shape of the PDC spectrum and the strong agreement between the effective and
nominal bandwidth highlight our high fabrication quality of periodically poled
waveguides. The good agreement between the measured and simulated spectral characteristics
of our source demonstrates our excellent understanding of the PDC process. Our
result is a valuable step towards practical and scalable quantum communication
networks as well as photonic quantum computing.

text: Periodically poled thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) crystals are the fundamental
building block for highly-efficient quantum light sources and frequency converters.
The efficiency of these devices is strongly dependent on the interaction length
between the light and the nonlinear material, scaling quadratically with this
parameter. Nevertheless, the fabrication of long, continuously poled areas in
TFLN remains challenging, the length of continuously poled areas rarely exceeds
10 mm. In this work, we demonstrate a significant progress in this field achieving
the periodic poling of continuous poled areas of 70 mm length with a 3 μm poling
period and a close to 50 % duty cycle. We compare two poling electrode design
approaches to fabricate long, continuous poled areas. The first approach involves
the poling of a single, continuous 70 mm long electrode. The second utilize a
segmented approach including the poling of more than 20 individual sections forming
together a 70 mm long poling area with no stitching errors. While the continuous
electrode allows for faster fabrication, the segmented approach allows to individually
optimize the poling resulting in less duty cycle variation. A detailed analysis
of the periodic poling results reveals that the results of both are consistent
with previously reported poling outcomes for shorter devices. Thus, we demonstrate
wafer-scale periodic poling exceeding chiplet-size without any loss in the periodic
poling quality. Our work presents a key step towards highly-efficient, narrow-bandwidth
and low-pump power nonlinear optical devices.

  text:
Boson sampling is a key candidate for demonstrating quantum advantage
and has already yielded significant advances in quantum simulation, machine learning,
and graph theory. In this work, a unification and extension of distinct forms
of boson sampling is developed. The devised protocol merges discrete-variable
scattershot boson sampling with continuous-variable Gaussian boson sampling. Therefore,
it is rendered possible to harness the complexity of more interesting states,
such as squeezed photons, in advanced sampling protocols. A generating function
formalism is developed for the joint description of multiphoton and multimode
light undergoing Gaussian transformations. The resulting analytical tools enable
one to explore interfaces of different photonic quantum-information-processing
platforms. A numerical simulation of unified sampling is carried out, benchmarking
its performance, complexity, and scalability. Entanglement is characterized to
exemplify the generation of quantum correlations from the nonlinear interactions
    of a unified sampler.

  text: '
Entangled two-mode Gaussian states constitute an important building
block for continuous variable quantum computing and communication protocols. In
this work, we theoretically study two-mode bipartite states, which are extracted
from multimode light generated via type-II parametric downconversion (PDC) in
lossy waveguides. For these states, we demonstrate that the squeezing quantifies
entanglement and we construct a measurement basis, which results in the maximal
bipartite entanglement. We illustrate our findings by numerically solving the
spatial master equation for PDC in a Markovian environment. The optimal measurement
modes are compared with two widely used broadband bases: the Mercer–Wolf basis
(the first-order coherence basis) and the Williamson–Euler basis.
'

text: "To address the challenges associated with poor drug solubility and uncontrolled
drug release in conventional dosage forms, a combination of polymer design and
advanced drug delivery approaches has been employed. The development of pH-responsive
nanoparticles for controlled and selective drug release represents a notable advance
in adaptive nanomedicine. This study explores the design of a pH-responsive polymer,
poly(1,4-phenyleneacetone dimethylene ketal) (PPADK). Additionally, the incorporation
of light-responsive ortho-nitrobenzyl groups (o-NB-PPADK) enhanced the degradation
upon exposure to light. Based on the polymer, nanoparticles were prepared using
the solvent displacement method. The fluorescence dye Lumogen® Red was incorporated
as a model substance. The nanoparticles were characterized by dynamic light scattering
to determine their hydrodynamic diameter and size distribution, and the surface
charge was analyzed. Atomic force microscopy was used to visualize the surface
morphology. The nanoparticles remained stable under physiological pH conditions
while exhibiting accelerated degradation and substance release in acidic environment,
a property potentially exploitable for tumor targeting. Further enhanced degradation
and correspondingly increased release was achieved by incorporating light-responsive
elements in the polymer structure.\r\nThe cytotoxicity of these newly designed
nanoparticles was evaluated in cell culture using a breast cancer cell line. These
results support the potential of o-NB-PPADK nanoparticles as a possible candidate
for selective and effective cancer therapy, combining stimuli-responsive degradation
    mechanisms for improved therapeutic outcomes."

text: 'The tribological behavior of thermo‐responsive poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)
(PNIPAAm)‐based microgels is investigated for use as water‐dispersible lubricant
additives. Two types of microgels are synthesized using a surfactant‐free emulsion
polymerization method: MG0, consisting of pure PNIPAAm with a volume phase transition
temperature (VPTT) of ≈33 °C, and MG16, consisting of PNIPAAm copolymerized with
hydrophobic tert‐butyl acrylamide, exhibiting a lower VPTT of around 23 °C. Swelling
and lubrication performance are evaluated at 20 and 40 °C. Both microgels significantly
reduce friction and wear compared to water alone. At 20 °C, MG0 remains fully
swollen and provides effective wear protection through hydrated microgel lubrication.
MG16, being near its VPTT, exhibits partial collapse and slightly higher wear.
At 40 °C, MG16 demonstrates improved wear resistance, attributed to enhanced film
compaction in the collapsed state. Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy–energy‐dispersive
X‐ray spectroscopy confirm that carbon‐rich tribofilms are formed via tribochemical
reactions. MG0 produces more graphitic films, while MG16 generates amorphous carbon
structures. These findings highlight the tunability of microgel composition for
designing adaptive, water‐based lubricants for temperature‐sensitive applications.'

  text:
We study a possibility of measuring the time-resolved second-order
autocorrelation function of one of two beams generated in type-II parametric down-conversion
by means of temporal magnification of this beam, bringing its correlation time
from the picosecond to the nanosecond scale, which can be resolved by modern photodetectors.
We show that such a measurement enables one to infer directly the degree of global
coherence of that beam, which is linked by a simple relation to the number of
modes characterizing the entanglement between the two generated beams. We illustrate
the proposed method by an example of photon pairs generated in a periodically
poled potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystal with a symmetric group velocity
matching for various durations of the pump pulse, resulting in different numbers
of modes. Our theoretical model also shows that the magnified double-heralded
autocorrelation function of one beam exhibits a local maximum around zero delay
time, corresponding to photon bunching at a short time scale.

abstract:
- lang: ger
text: Elektronenenergieverlustspektroskopie (engl.
Rauschen solche Messungen dominiert.
    erweitert.

text: Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) is an advanced analytical technique
in transmission electron microscopy, as it provides insights into material characteristics,
such as electronic properties or elemental composition, at the atomic scale. The
precision of every EELS analysis, however, is inherently limited by noises and
blur. This thesis offers a comprehensive understanding of the noise, which is
particularly valuable at low dwell times necessary for beam sensitive materials
and for electron-matter interactions with low frequency of occurrence, where the
noise dominates the measurement. Additionally, correlations encountered in the
noise of an EELS measurement are described from both a theoretical and experimental
perspective. These correlations are caused by a convolution of the noisy signal
with the detector point spread function. Methods for characterizing key noise
parameters of typical detectors are described, allowing the noise model to be
tailored to any EELS detector. Ultimately, a novel deconvolution method enabling
significant sharpening and denoising of EELS measurements is introduced and demonstrated.
Its efficiency is further validated on both simulation and experimental data.
The described advancement offered by the proposed deconvolution method enables
the extension of current electron microscope capabilities, facilitating analysis
that would be unfeasible with existing deconvolution techniques.
