text: Over the last few decades, nanotechnology has established to be a promising
field in medicine. A remaining dominant challenge in today's pharmacotherapy is
the limited selectivity of active pharmaceutical ingredients and associated undesirable
side effects. Controlled drug release can be promoted by smart drug delivery systems,
which release embedded API primarily depending on specific stimuli. Consequently,
also the microenvironment of tumor tissue can be used advantageously. Dithiothreitol
(DTT) based self-immolative polydisulfides were synthesized that preferentially
respond to pathologically increased glutathione (GSH) concentrations, as found
in solid tumors. The synthesis with different degrees of polymerisation was investigated
as well as the synthesis of a copolymer consisting of dithiothreitol and butanedithiol
(BDT). Toxicity tests were carried out on pure polymers and their degradation
products. The ability to degrade was examined at pathological and physiological
glutathione concentrations in order to test the suitability of the polymer as
a matrix for nanoparticulate carrier systems. In addition, the processability
of one polymer into nanoparticles was investigated as well as the degradation
behaviour with glutathione.

text:
We theoretically investigate strategies for the deterministic creation
of trains of time-bin entangled photons using an individual quantum emitter described
by a Λ-type electronic system. We explicitly demonstrate the theoretical generation
of linear cluster states with substantial numbers of entangled photonic qubits
in full microscopic numerical simulations. The underlying scheme is based on the
manipulation of ground state coherences through precise optical driving. One important
finding is that the most easily accessible quality metrics, the achievable rotation
fidelities, fall short in assessing the actual quantum correlations of the emitted
photons in the face of losses. To address this, we explicitly calculate stabilizer
generator expectation values as a superior gauge for the quantum properties of
the generated many-photon state. With widespread applicability in other emitter
and excitation–emission schemes also, our work lays the conceptual foundations
for an in-depth practical analysis of time-bin entanglement based on full numerical
simulations with predictive capabilities for realistic systems and setups, including
losses and imperfections. The specific results shown in the present work illustrate
that with controlled minimization of losses and realistic system parameters for
quantum-dot type systems, useful linear cluster states of significant lengths
can be generated in the calculations, discussing the possibility of scalability
for quantum information processing endeavors.

text: "
In the SUPER scheme (Swing-UP of the quantum EmitteR population),
excitation of a quantum emitter is achieved with two off-resonant, red-detuned
laser pulses. This allows the generation of high-quality single photons without
the need of complex laser stray light suppression or careful spectral filtering.
In the present work, we extend this promising method to quantum emitters, specifically
semiconductor quantum dots, inside a resonant optical cavity. A significant advantage
of the SUPER scheme is identified in that it eliminates re-excitation of the quantum
emitter by suppressing photon emission during the excitation cycle. This, in turn,
leads to almost ideal single-photon purity, overcoming a major factor typically
limiting the quality of photons generated with quantum emitters in high-quality
cavities. We further find that for cavity-mediated biexciton emission of degenerate
photon pairs, the SUPER scheme leads to near-perfect biexciton initialization
with very high values of polarization entanglement of emitted photon pairs.
\r\n

text: "
Abstract
\r\n
Topological states
have been widely investigated in different types of systems and lattices. In the
present work, we report on topological edge states in double-wave (DW) chains,
which can be described by a generalized Aubry-André-Harper (AAH) model. For the
specific system of a driven-dissipative exciton polariton system we show that
in such potential chains, different types of edge states can form. For resonant
optical excitation, we further find that the optical nonlinearity leads to a multistability
of different edge states. This includes topologically protected edge states evolved
directly from individual linear eigenstates as well as additional edge states
that originate from nonlinearity-induced localization of bulk states. Extending
the system into two dimensions (2D) by stacking horizontal DW chains in the vertical
direction, we also create 2D multi-wave lattices. In such 2D lattices multiple
Su–Schrieffer–Heeger (SSH) chains appear along the vertical direction. The combination
of DW chains in the horizonal and SSH chains in the vertical direction then results
in the formation of higher-order topological insulator corner states. Multistable
corner states emerge in the nonlinear regime.
"

text: "
Exceptional points (EPs), with their intriguing spectral topology,
have attracted considerable attention in a broad range of physical systems, with
potential sensing applications driving much of the present research in this field.
Here, we investigate spectral topology and EPs in systems with significant nonlinearity,
exemplified by a nonequilibrium exciton-polariton condensate. With the possibility
to control loss and gain and nonlinearity by optical means, this system allows
for a comprehensive analysis of the interplay of nonlinearities (Kerr type and
saturable gain) and non-Hermiticity. Not only do we find that EPs can be intentionally
shifted in parameter space by the saturable gain, but we also observe intriguing
rotations and intersections of Riemann surfaces and find nonlinearity-enhanced
sensing capabilities. With this, our results illustrate the potential of tailoring
spectral topology and related phenomena in non-Hermitian systems by nonlinearity.
\r\n

text:
Abstract
Thermal stability is crucial for
doped organic semiconductors (OSCs) and their applications in organic thermoelectric
(OTE) devices. However, the capacity of n‐dopants to produce thermally stable
n‐doped OSC films has not been thoroughly explored, with few reports of high thermal
stability. Here, a novel n‐dopant, phosphazenium tetrafluoroborate (P2BF4)
is introduced, which effectively induces n‐doping in N2200, P(PzDPP‐CT2) and several
other commonly used OSCs. Remarkably, the electrical conductivity of P2BF4‐doped
OSC films remains almost unchanged even after heating at temperatures > 150 °C
for 24 h, far superior to the films doped with benchmark N‐DMBI. The exceptional
thermal stability observed in P2BF4‐doped
P(PzDPP‐CT2) films allows for stable operation of the corresponding organic thermoelectric
devices at 150 °C for 16 h, a milestone not previously achieved. This study offers
valuable insights into the development of n‐dopants capable of producing OSCs
with outstanding thermal stability, paving the way for the practical realization
of OTE devices with enhanced operation stability.

text:
Abstract
Understanding how water interacts
with nanopores of carbonaceous electrodes is crucial for energy storage and conversion
applications. A high surface area of carbonaceous materials does not necessarily
need to translate to a high electrolyte‐solid interface area. Herein, we study
the interaction of water with nanoporous C1N1
materials to explain their very low specific capacitance in aqueous electrolytes
despite their high surface area. Water was used to probe chemical environments,
provided by pores of different sizes, in 1H MAS NMR experiments.
We observe that regardless of their high hydrophilicity, only a negligible portion
of water can enter the nanopores of C1N1,
in contrast to a reference pure carbon material with a similar pore structure.
The common paradigm that water easily enters hydrophilic pores does not apply
to C1N1 nanopores below a few nanometers.
Calorimetric and sorption experiments demonstrated strong water adsorption on
the C1N1 surface, which restricts water
mobility across the interface and impedes its penetration into the nanopores.

text: 'In basketball, an attacking player often plays a pass to one side while looking
to the other side. This head fake provokes a conflict in the observing opponent,
as the processing of the head orientation interferes with the processing of the
pass direction. Accordingly, responses to passes with head fakes are slower and
result in more errors than responses to passes without head fakes (head-fake effect).
The head-fake effect and structurally similar interference effects (e.g., Stroop
effect) are modulated by the frequency of conflicting trials. Previous studies
mostly applied a block-wise manipulation of proportion congruency. However, in
basketball (and also in other team sports), where different individual opponents
can be encountered, it might be important to take the individual frequency (e.g.,
20% vs. 80%) of these opponents into account. Therefore, the present study investigates
the possibility to quickly (i.e., on a trial-by-trial basis) reconfigure the response
behavior to different proportions of incongruent trials, which are contingent
on different basketball players. Results point out that participants indeed adapted
to the fake-frequency of different basketball players, which could be the result
of strategic adaptation processes. Multi-level analyses, however, indicate that
a substantial portion of the player-specific adaptation to fake frequencies is
accounted by episodic retrieval processes, suggesting that item-specific proportion
congruency effects can be explained in terms of stimulus-response binding and
retrieval: The head orientation (e.g., to the right) of a current stimulus retrieves
the last episode with the same head orientation including the response that was
part of this last episode. Thus, from a theoretical perspective, an attacking
player would provoke the strongest detrimental effect on an opponent if s/he repeats
the same head movement but changes the direction of the pass. Whether it is at
all possible to strategically apply this recommendation in practice needs still
to be answered.'
