text: "
Abstract
\r\n
Experiments with
ultracold atoms in optical lattices usually involve a weak parabolic trapping
potential which merely serves to confine the atoms, but otherwise remains negligible.
In contrast, we suggest a different class of experiments in which the presence
of a stronger trap is an essential part of the set-up. Because the trap-modified
on-site energies exhibit a slowly varying level spacing, similar to that of an
anharmonic oscillator, an additional time-periodic trap modulation with judiciously
chosen parameters creates nonlinear resonances which enable efficient Floquet
engineering. We employ a Mathieu approximation for constructing the near-resonant
Floquet states in an accurate manner and demonstrate the emergence of effective
ground states from the resonant trap eigenstates. Moreover, we show that the population
of the Floquet states is strongly affected by the phase of a sudden turn-on of
the trap modulation, which leads to significantly modified and rich dynamics.
As a guideline for further studies, we argue that the deliberate population of
only the resonance-induced effective ground states will allow one to realize Floquet
condensates which follow classical periodic orbits, thus providing challenging
future perspectives for the investigation of the quantum–classical correspondence.
"

text:
Pore engineering is commonly used to alter the properties of metal–organic
frameworks. This is achieved by incorporating different linker molecules (L) into
the structure, generating isoreticular frameworks. CPO-27, also named MOF-74,
is a prototypical material for this approach, offering the potential to modify
the size of its one-dimensional pore channels and the hydrophobicity of pore walls
using various linker ligands during synthesis. Thermal activation of these materials
yields accessible open metal sites (i.e., under-coordinated metal centers) at
the pore walls, thus acting as strong primary binding sites for guest molecules,
including water. We study the effect of the pore size and linker hydrophobicity
within a series of Ni2+-based isoreticular frameworks (i.e., Ni2L, L = dhtp, dhip,
dondc, bpp, bpm, tpp), analyzing their water sorption behavior and the water interactions
in the confined pore space. For this purpose, we apply water vapor sorption analysis
and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In addition, defect degrees of all
compounds are determined by thermogravimetric analysis and solution 1H nuclear
magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We find that larger defect degrees affect the
preferential sorption sites in Ni2dhtp, while no such indication is found for
the other materials in our study. Instead, strong evidence is found for the formation
of water bridges/chains between coordinating water molecules, as previously observed
for hydrophobic porous carbons and mesoporous silica. This suggests similar sorption
energies for additional water molecules in materials with larger pore sizes after
saturation of the primary binding sites, resulting in more bulk-like water arrangements.
Consequently, the sorption mechanism is driven by classical pore condensation
through H-bonding anchor sites instead of sorption at discrete sites.

text: CPO‐27 is a metal‐organic framework (MOF) with coordinatively unsaturated
metal centers (open metal sites). It is therefore an ideal host material for small
guest molecules, including water. This opens up numerous possible applications,
such as proton conduction, humidity sensing, water harvesting, or adsorption‐driven
heat pumps. For all of these applications, profound knowledge of the adsorption
and desorption of water in the micropores is mandatory. The hydration and water
structure in CPO‐27‐M (M = Zn or Cu) is investigated using water vapor sorption,
Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, density functional theory (DFT)
calculations, and molecular dynamics simulation. In the pores of CPO‐27‐Zn, water
binds as a ligand to the Zn center. Additional water molecules are stepwise incorporated
at defined positions, forming a network of H‐bonds with the framework and with
each other. In CPO‐27‐Cu, hydration proceeds by an entirely different mechanism.
Here, water does not coordinate to the metal center, but only forms H‐bonds with
the framework; pore filling occurs mostly in a single step, with the open metal
site remaining unoccupied. Water in the pores forms clusters with extensive intra‐cluster
H‐bonding.

Return to sport decision-making may be improved by assessing an athlete’s
ability to coordinate movement with opponents in sport. The purpose was to investigate

into dyads. Each dyad completed twenty trials of an externally paced collision-avoidance
agility task with an unanticipated perturbation. Participant trajectories were
digitized and analyzed using cross-recurrence quantification analysis (CRQA) to
determine the strength and stability of interpersonal coordination dynamics. Trials
in which participants with injury history assumed leader or follower roles within
each dyad were then used to study how dyadic coordination varied across task stages
(early, perturbation, and late) using linear mixed effect models. Cohen’s d effect
sizes were calculated to demonstrate magnitude of differences. In exploratory

between limbs or between groups (P > .05), and hop distance symmetry was
not different between groups (P > .05). During loading, the involved limb
demonstrated lesser knee flexion angles (P = .030) and knee power (P = .007) than
the uninvolved limb and lesser knee extension moments than the uninvolved limb
(P = .001) and controls (P = .005). During propulsion, the involved limb demonstrated
lesser knee extension moment (P = .027), knee power (P = .010), knee (P = .032)

study aimed to evaluate the impact of neurocognitive reliance on jump distance
and lower extremity kinematics in individuals who had undergone anterior cruciate
ligament reconstruction (ACLR). This was achieved by comparing hop performance
under standard and neurocognitive conditions.
Methods
Thirty‐two
patients after ACLR and 32 healthy controls (CTRL) participated. Both groups performed
a single‐leg hop for distance (SLHD) and two neurocognitive hop tests, each designed
to evaluate distinct aspects of neurocognition. The neurocognitive tests included
the reaction SLHD (R‐SLHD), measuring reaction to a central stimulus and working
memory SLHD (WM‐SLHD) assessing response to a memorized stimulus amidst distractor
stimuli. Distances were assessed for the three‐hop tests. In addition, joint kinematics
were collected to calculate lower extremity coordination of the lower extremity.
SLHD performance was defined as the mean hop distance per condition per leg for
each participant and was analyzed using a mixed ANOVA with condition and leg as
the within‐subjects factors and the group (ACLR or CTRL) as the between‐subjects
factor. Differences in joint coordination variability were analyzed using two‐sample

regression.
Results
The
WM‐SLHD resulted in a significantly decreased jump distance compared with the

indicating leg‐specific adaptations in lower extremity coordination.
Conclusions
Neurocognitive
single‐leg hop tests resulted in reduced jump distance in CTRL and ACLR. The neurocognitive

toggle=\"yes\">J Strength Cond Res</jats:italic> XX(X): 000–000, 2024—Providing
athletes some control over a training session facilitates motor skill acquisition.
This is a promising concept to use in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury
prevention, as the key for risk reduction is to improve quality of movement. The
goal of this study was to better understand why improved motor learning occurred
when football players had the opportunity to choose when to receive feedback when
practicing sidestep cutting (SSC) movements. Healthy male recreational football
players (n = 22, 22.9 ± 1.7 years, 185.5
± 7.2 cm, 79.3 ± 9.2 kg) were included and assigned to the self-control (SC) or
the yoked (YK) group. The players performed anticipated and unanticipated SSC.
They received video instructions and were instructed to “copy the movement of
the model to the best of their ability.” During the training blocks, the SC group
could ask for feedback, whereas the YK group could not. Cutting movement assessment
scores (CMAS) were measured to test quality of movement and the Intrinsic Motivation
Inventory was administered to measure constructs of motivation. In the anticipated
condition, SC group showed better scores in immediate post and the retention test
compared with pretest (p < 0.001),
whereas the YK group showed worse scores in the retention test compared with immediate
posttest (p = 0.001). Perceived competence
(p = 0.017) and self-efficacy (<jats:italic
toggle=\"yes\">p = 0.032) were consistent factors that correlated
with improved CMAS in the SC group. This has given us innovative insights into
underlying mechanisms optimizing the quality of movement, necessary to improve
current ACL injury prevention approaches.
"

text:
Laboratory studies have limitations in screening for anterior cruciate
ligament (ACL) injury risk due to their lack of ecological validity. Machine learning
(ML) methods coupled with wearable sensors are state-of-art approaches for joint
load estimation outside the laboratory in athletic tasks. The aim of this study
was to investigate ML approaches in predicting knee joint loading during sport-specific
agility tasks. We explored the possibility of predicting high and low knee abduction
moments (KAMs) from kinematic data collected in a laboratory setting through wearable
sensors and of predicting the actual KAM from kinematics. Xsens MVN Analyze and
Vicon motion analysis, together with Bertec force plates, were used. Talented
female football (soccer) players (n = 32, age 14.8 ± 1.0 y, height 167.9 ± 5.1
cm, mass 57.5 ± 8.0 kg) performed unanticipated sidestep cutting movements (number
of trials analyzed = 1105). According to the findings of this technical note,
classification models that aim to identify the players exhibiting high or low
KAM are preferable to the ones that aim to predict the actual peak KAM magnitude.
The possibility of classifying high versus low KAMs during agility with good approximation
(AUC 0.81–0.85) represents a step towards testing in an ecologically valid environment.

text:
Introduction
Resistance training
(RT) is known to induce both peripheral and central adaptations, resulting in
enhanced strength, sports performance, and health benefits. These adaptations
are specific to the training stimuli. The acute cortical mechanisms of single
sessions resistance exercise (RE) are not yet understood. Therefore, this review
investigates the electrocortical activity during acute RE regarding the specific
RE stimuli.
Methods
A
systematic literature search was conducted across three databases, focusing on
the acute electrocortical activity associated with the muscle contraction type,
load, and volume of RE in healthy young adults.
Results
Out
of an initial 1,332 hits, 19 studies were included for data synthesis. The findings
from these studies show that the RE load, contraction type, and volume during
RE significantly affect brain activity. The current literature exhibits methodological
heterogeneity attributed to variations in study quality, differences in the location
of cortical sources, the cortical outcome parameter and the use of diverse training
interventions.
Discussion
Despite
inconsistencies in the current literature, this review highlights the need to
investigate time and frequency-specific characteristics when examining electrocortical
activity during RE. More research is necessary to further explore the acute cortical
mechanisms related to resistance exercise. Future research could improve our understanding
of acute neural responses to RE and provide insights into mechanism underlying
more long-term neuroplastic adaptations to RT.

text: Ferroelectric materials play a crucial role in a broad range of technologies
due to their unique properties that are deeply connected to the pattern and behavior
of their ferroelectric (FE) domains. Chief among them, barium titanate (BaTiO3;
BTO) sees widespread applications such as in electronics but equally is a ferroelectric
model system for fundamental research, e.g., to study the interplay of such FE
domains, the domain walls (DWs), and their macroscopic properties, owed to BTO’s
multiple and experimentally accessible phase transitions. Here, we employ Second
Harmonic Generation Microscopy (SHGM) to in situ investigate the cubic-to-tetragonal
(at ∼126°C) and the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic (at ∼5°C) phase transition in single-crystalline
BTO via three-dimensional (3D) DW mapping. We demonstrate that SHGM imaging provides
the direct visualization of FE domain switching as well as the domain dynamics
in 3D, shedding light on the interplay of the domain structure and phase transition.
These results allow us to extract the different transition temperatures locally,
to unveil the hysteresis behavior, and to determine the type of phase transition
at play (first/second order) from the recorded SHGM data. The capabilities of
SHGM in uncovering these crucial phenomena can easily be applied to other ferroelectrics
to provide new possibilities for in situ engineering of advanced ferroic devices.
