  text: "
\r\n We develop a framework for identifying nonclassical
speedups in systems with polarization, likewise spin degrees of freedom. By confining
the dynamics to the manifold of angular momentum coherent states, which act as
the classical reference in this case, we compute the speed limit that bounds the
rate of change of the state achievable without generating quantum coherence. A
comparison with the unrestricted quantum speed limit enables the quantitative
identification of speedups arising from polarization nonclassicality. We apply
this framework to the cross-Kerr interaction, demonstrating a persistent speedup

  text:
Efficient detection of near-infrared light at telecommunication wavelengths
remains a central challenge for GaAs-based photonic and optoelectronic devices
due to the absence of linear absorption below the bandgap. Here, we demonstrate
a hybrid nonlinear optoelectronic device that enhances the detection efficiency
of a (001)-oriented GaAs PIN photodiode under telecommunication-wavelength illumination,
where absorption is intrinsically limited to two-photon absorption (2PA). Our
approach relies on the integration of a transferred, nanopatterned 385 nm-thick
(111)-oriented GaAs nanofilm acting as an on-chip nonlinear frequency-conversion
layer. Elliptical GaAs nanoresonators are employed to enhance second-harmonic
generation (SHG) resonantly, converting incident 1550 nm radiation into above-bandgap
photons efficiently absorbed by the underlying diode. Spatially resolved current–voltage
measurements reveal a pronounced enhancement of the detector response in regions
covered by the nanoantennas. The device exhibits a low dark current, while the
metasurface-covered regions show the largest current response under 1560 nm excitation
compared to the bare GaAs(100) diode and the unstructured GaAs(111) film. These
results establish a direct functional link between dielectric metasurface–based
nonlinear frequency conversion and electrical photodetection, providing a viable
route toward integrated sub-bandgap detection schemes.

text: In this thesis, several aspects of high-gain multimode SU(1,1) interferometers
are theoretically investigated, with the focus being on metrological applications.
The parametric down-conversion (PDC) process utilized in these interferometers
is theoretically described via integro-differential equations describing spatial
evolution of the plane-wave operators. It is shown that for the phase sensitivity
of these interferometers, supersensitivity can be reached provided that proper
diffraction compensation is applied. The phase sensitivity improves if the gain
is increased or if the number of effective modes is decreased. This comes at the
cost of the phase-region width over which supersensitivity can be reached. Based
on the Schmidt mode structure of SU(1,1) interferometers, a processing method
is constructed which allows for the experimental retrieval of the levels of squeezing
and anti-squeezing of the multimode state generated by the first PDC section of
an SU(1,1) interferometer. It is then applied experimentally by collaborators
and is found to be in good agreement with the theoretical predictions. Finally,
SU(1,1) interferometers pumped with Laguerre-Gaussian beams are analyzed in the
context of angular displacement measurements. As either the gain, the OAM index
or the radial index of the pump are increased, the measurement uncertainty is
decreased, ultimately allowing for supersensitive measurements. Generally, the
behavior is the same as for the phase sensitivity.

theoretically compare the quantum Fisher information (QFI) for three configurations
of absorption spectroscopy with undetected idler photons: an SU(1,1) interferometer
with inter-source idler loss, an induced-coherence (IC) setup in which the idler
partially seeds a second squeezer together with a vacuum ancilla, and a distributed-loss
(DL) scheme with in-medium attenuation. We calculate the QFI as a function of
parametric gain for both full and signal-only detection access. For losses below
99% and low to moderate gain, the SU(1,1) configuration provides the largest QFI.
At high gain and intermediate loss, the IC scheme performs best, while under extreme

text: Integrated photon-pair sources, providing scalability solutions, are crucial
for large-scale realizations of quantum photonic technologies. Their traditional
fabrication techniques, such as etching, are often complex, require long development
cycles, and are resource inefficient in case of fabrication imperfections or failures.
The two-photon polymerization (2PP) technique can offer a rapid, efficient, and
reproducible alternative for the fabrication of integrated photonic devices. Here,
we demonstrate an integrated photon-pair source based on a 2PP-defined strip-loaded
waveguide on a periodically poled thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform. The
device generates photon pairs through type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion
(SPDC), employing first-order quasi-phase matching (QPM) with TM-polarized excitation
light. The device achieves an on-chip pair generation rate of 4.357 MHz and a
coincidence-to-accidental ratio (CAR) of ∼404. To prove the flexibility and versatility
of the fabrication technique, the waveguides were erased from the LN substrate
and reprinted, reaching comparable performance. This work demonstrates the potential
of 2PP as a rapid production technique for high-performance integrated photon-pair
sources, offering a practical solution to the limitations of traditional fabrication
techniques and showcasing both reproducibility of the fabrication and the reusability
    of the substrate.

text: "Many quantum optical applications in spectroscopy, communication and signal
analysis rely on spectrally-engineered nonlinear optical interactions to target
specific wavelengths or bandwidth. Here, in an established material platform like
lithium niobate the achievable wavelength and bandwidth combinations are usually
limited by the material’s dispersion and its birefringence. In this regard, mixed
crystals of lithium niobate tantalate (LNT) promise a novel material platform,
because they allow tuning the birefringence, which is central for type II phase
matching devices. Crucially, LNT offers crystal compositions without any birefringence,
which still retain their second-order optical nonlinearity. Despite recent progress
in the growth and fabrication of LNT, so far no works have investigated the unique
properties of LNT for use in electro-optics, nonlinear or quantum optics. In this
study, we explore nonlinear optical devices based on LNT for broad- and narrowband
nonlinear optical interactions based on recently measured Sellmeier coefficients.
Most interestingly, we find that compositions without birefringence allow the
design of broadband, degenerate type II phase matching sources spanning the whole
near- to mid-infrared range by only changing the poling period and pump wavelength.
Such devices are not easily realizable in pure lithium niobate or lithium tantalate.
This could potentially allow for\tmore flexible light sources and nonlinear devices
in quantum metrology, quantum spectroscopy and quantum communication."

text: Raman imaging, based on incoherent spontaneous Raman scattering (SR) or coherent
techniques such as broadband coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (BCARS),
is a powerful tool for visualizing local lattice distortions. It can thus be employed,
e.g., to identify and visualize ferroelectric (FE) domain walls (DWs). While SR-based
DW imaging relies on small changes in the intensity or position of Raman peaks
at the DW, BCARS measurements may detect DW signatures with a drastically increased
contrast and orders of magnitude faster imaging speed. However, while SR-based
contrasts can be predicted from existing models, the increased DW contrasts in
BCARS remain poorly understood. In this work, we develop a first-principles approach
for the simulation of CARS spectra to investigate the origin of this BCARS signal
contrast at periodically poled stoichiometric lithium niobate (sPPLN) DWs. Combining
these atomistic simulations with strain modeling allows us to explore how strain
affects the CARS signal generation at FE DWs. We then apply polarization-sensitive
BCARS to image sPPLN DWs for different polarization configurations. Our results
reveal additional Raman peaks specific to the DWs across all investigated polarization
combinations, yielding a strong DW-to-bulk contrast that enables in situ identification
and localization of DWs in two-dimensional BCARS maps. This study demonstrates
the practical utility of polarization-sensitive BCARS for fast DW imaging and
provides fundamental insights into the BCARS contrast mechanism in FE materials,
both in strained regions and in the unstrained bulk.

text: Understanding and controlling the optical properties of lithium niobate tantalate
solid solutions (LiNb1−xTaxO3, 0 ≤ x ≤ 1) is essential for their use in integrated
quantum and nonlinear photonics. This material system allows for composition-dependent
tuning of key optical parameters such as refractive indices and birefringence.
    While lithium niobate (LiNbO3, x = 0) and lithium tantalate (LiTaO3, x = 1) are
well characterized, reliable dispersion data for intermediate compositions remain
scarce, limiting accurate modeling and refractive index engineering. Here, we
address this gap by experimentally determining the ordinary and extraordinary
refractive indices of LiNb1−xTaxO3 over the spectral range of 405 − 1550 nm using
an interferometric technique. As a result, composition-dependent refractive index
dispersion and Sellmeier coefficients are derived and discussed in relation to
previous studies and structural aspects. In particular, a monotonic decrease of
the ordinary refractive index with increasing Tantalum concentration is observed.
The present Sellmeier coefficients further allow discussion of zero birefringence
dispersion and its composition dependence in lithium niobate tantalate.

text: "Taking pupils’ diverse needs into account is considered a central requirement
of inclusive education (Booth & Ainscow, 2016). These needs are—according to Ainscow’s
(2007) inclusive turn—not primarily ‘special educational needs’, but diverse needs
of all learners. For the rather segregated German educational system, this endeavour
applies especially to primary education, where needs are still developing and
pupils are not yet assigned to different types of schooling according to their
needs and abilities.\r\n\r\nDespite a substantial amount of research on pupils’
basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence and social relatedness (Ryan
et al., 2022), strategies that technology education teachers apply in this regard
are not yet well understood. Besides interventional studies on technology education,
indicating effectiveness of self‑directed and action‑oriented teaching and learning,
there is a dearth of research on how teachers address different needs as a routine.\r\n\r\nThe
purpose of the presented study is therefore to investigate and systematize actions
and strategies teachers apply, and to specify how pupils' needs are considered
when teaching technology education on a given topic.\r\n\r\nThe overall study
used a mixed-methods approach to the question how pupils’ needs are characterized
by themselves and by their teachers, and how they were taken into account in a
lesson adapted and delivered by the teachers. In the sub-study presented here,
participating primary school teachers were interviewed about their consideration
of pupils’ needs whilst planning and conducting a technology education unit on
the functionality of robots.\r\n\r\nThe results gained from qualitative content
analysis of the interviews indicate that although the anticipation of different
needs is considered challenging, teachers possess a substantiate amount of practices
and strategies to take them into account.\r\n\r\nThe paper systematizes the practices
teachers described in structured interviews within strategies and discusses the
contribution of taking basic needs into account for inclusive technology education."

on DONs, DON binding to Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria can be facilitated.
Here, we investigate how this multivalent binding is affected by the number and

in the architectures of the cell envelopes. Interestingly, for both bacteria,
the total number of vancomycin modifications appears to be more important than
their arrangement, as DONs with 18 vancomycin molecules on one side show similar
binding as DONs with 18 vancomycin molecules distributed over both sides. This
enables the attachment of multiple probe molecules to the vancomycin‐free side
of the DONs for enhancing detection efficiency without compromising binding affinity.
These results may thus provide guidelines for the design and synthesis of vancomycin‐modified
DONs for antimicrobial drug delivery and pathogen detection.\r\n
"

text: The two-qubit controlled-not (C-NOT) gate is an essential component for gate-based
quantum circuits. In fact, its operation, combined with single qubit rotations
allows to realise any quantum circuit. Several strategies have been adopted in
order to build quantum gates. Among them, photonics offers the dual advantage
of excellent isolation from the environment and ease of manipulation at the single
qubit level. Here we adopt a scalable time-multiplexed approach in order to build
a fully reconfigurable architecture capable of implementing a post-selected C-NOT
gate with a fidelity of (93.8 ± 1.4)%. We then show how our time-multiplexed platform
can be employed to combine a C-NOT and a single qubit gate in order to generate
    the four Bell states.

text: Three‐dimensional (3D) assemblies of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) offer a rich
platform for plasmonic coupling and near‐field engineering, yet their optical
behavior is often complex due to structural disorder and fabrication‐induced variability.
Here, we present a systematic optical investigation of large‐scale 3D AuNP assemblies
fabricated via meniscus‐guided assembly, focusing on the reproducibility, spatial
uniformity, and mode evolution of their plasmonic responses. Spatially‐resolved
dark‐field scattering measurements reveal that high‐aspect‐ratio AuNP pillars
exhibit uniform scattering spectra along their height and across different pillars,
despite variations in geometry and structure. Electromagnetic simulations suggest
that this robustness arises from a collective many‐particle plasmonic response
that remains optically active despite structural perturbations. The corresponding
near‐field and surface‐charge distributions remain spatially distributed under
representative structural perturbations, consistent with volumetric averaging
across the three‐dimensional assembly. Building on this robust platform, we introduce
compositional modulation through a core–satellite architecture by incorporating
smaller AuNPs. This yields a composition‐dependent spectral redistribution, including
the emergence of an additional long‐wavelength spectral feature in the core–satellite
assemblies. Wavelength‐dependent surface‐enhanced Raman scattering measurements
reveal contrasting responses under 633 and 785 nm excitation, reflecting redistribution
of local plasmonic coupling pathways. These results provide process‐enabled guidelines
for using meniscus‐guided 3D‐nanoprinting to realize robust nanoparticle assemblies.

text: Over the last few decades, a large variety of nucleic acid‑based therapeutic
approaches and drug formulations have been developed in the lab, tested in the
clinic, and brought to market, ranging from antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs)
and siRNAs to aptamer inhibitors and mRNA vaccines, with DNA and RNA nanostructure
therapeutics already looming on the horizon. However, being susceptible toward
hydrolysis, oxidation, non‑specific binding, and nuclease digestion, unmodified
nucleic acids are rapidly degraded in vivo, resulting in poor therapeutic performance.
Therefore, several stabilization strategies have been developed in order to protect
those fragile molecules against adverse conditions during storage and in the body,
while simultaneously accommodating their various mechanisms of action such as
cellular uptake, target binding, or translation. These strategies include chemical
modifications at the nucleoside level, complexation with proteins and polymers,
and encapsulation in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Despite this variety of available
methods, the field still faces many challenges, and this issue aims to provide
an overview of the ongoing efforts to enhance the stability of therapeutic nucleic
    acids.

player passing to the left or right, either with or without a head fake. In the
buzzer task, participants moved laterally to press a response button as if to
intercept the pass. In the vocal task, they verbally indicated pass direction.
Reaction times (RTs), movement times (MTs), and medio-lateral center-of-pressure
(CoP) displacements were recorded to investigate whether motor output is rapid
and stimulus-driven or rather requires continuous integration of fake and pass
cues. Further, we investigated whether the mere observation of a basketball player
leads to overt micromovements even if no response movement is intended. The data
analysis shows that head fakes increased RTs in both the buzzer and vocal tasks.
In the buzzer task, head fakes induced an initial, small erroneous CoP shift,
which was then rapidly corrected. When CoP trajectories were aligned by head orientation,
fake and non-fake trajectories diverged shortly after movement onset. In the present
dynamic sport-related context, this pattern is more compatible with the early
integration of head and pass information than with a strictly sequential prime-target
account, although the paradigm differs from classic Rapid Chase Theory designs
with discrete primes and target events. In the vocal task, participants were not
instructed to move, yet CoP traces showed tiny but systematically lateralized
micromovements with a temporal structure resembling that in the buzzer task, albeit
without an initial erroneous shift for head fakes. These postural fluctuations
are consistent with action-observation-related motor activation, although they
do not uniquely identify motor resonance and may also reflect attentional or generalized
embodied response tendencies. A clear deceptive response conflict at the postural
level emerged only when a lateralized action was prepared.
"

text: Multimode quantum light has promising applications in many areas of physics,
such as quantum communications and quantum computing. However, its multimode nature
also makes it challenging to measure its properties. Recently [I. Barakat et al.,
Optica Quantum 3, 36 (2025)], a technique for the simultaneous measurement of
squeezing of multiple broadband modes based on a phase-sensitive amplification
approach was experimentally implemented using a setup that effectively corresponds
to an SU(1,1) interferometer. Here, we aim to provide a complete theoretical analysis
of the modal structure of (generally unbalanced) SU(1,1) interferometers and a
detailed theoretical formal derivation of the framework for this technique. Utilizing
the joint Schmidt decomposition of the transfer functions, we investigate the
shape and phase profiles of the modes of the SU(1,1) interferometer and its components
[parametric down-conversion (PDC) sections] for different parametric gain regimes.
We discover a complicated interplay between the PDC modes and the modes of the
entire interferometer, and analyze it by using their overlap coefficients as a
similarity measure. Finally, we develop a rigorous processing method for the aforementioned
multimode squeezing measurement technique and discuss necessary approximations
to make this method experimentally feasible.
