In der sozialpädagogischen Forschung wird Partizipation als zentrale Voraussetzung für das gesunde Aufwachsen von Kindern und Jugendlichen hervorgehoben.\r\n\r\nMit Blick auf die Heimerziehung der vergangenen 20 Jahre zeigt sich, dass der Fachdiskurs frühzeitig die Notwendigkeit von Partizipation in Institutionen der Heimerziehung erkannt und gefordert hat. Zugleich verweisen die empirischen Studien auf deutliche Hemmnisse in der Umsetzung der fachlichen Forderung.\r\n\r\nGleichzeitig impliziert die Veränderung, Beteiligung als grundlegendes Recht von Kindern und Jugendlichen zu konzeptionieren und als solches über organisational verankerte Beschwerdemöglichkeiten abzusichern, eine neue Qualität der Fachdebatten und professionellen Ansätze in der Heimerziehung.
