While prior work emphasizes the potential of these technologies in various application domains, the process of visual attention in and across the contexts of AR/VR environments is not exhaustively explored yet. By now, visual attention in AR/VR environments has majorly been studied by means of overt attention (i.e. saccadic eye movements), self-report, and process-related visual attention proxies (like reaction time). In this work, we analyze covert visual attention based on the (psychological) Theory of Visual Attention (TVA), which allows us to quantify theory-based interpretable properties of the visual attention process. For example, the TVA allows us to measure the overall processing speed. We instantiate this TVA-based framework with a 30-participant explorative within-subjects study. The results show a decisive difference in visual attention between Reality (i.e. the neutral condition) and Virtual Reality and a weak difference between Reality and Augmented Reality. We discuss the consequences of our findings and provide ideas for future studies.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2024-05-02T10:28:03Z","oa":"1","department":[{"_id":"66"},{"_id":"534"},{"_id":"424"}],"keyword":["Visual Attention","TVA","Cognitive Modelling","Bayesian Modelling","AR","VR"],"type":"conference"},{"citation":{"mla":"Janus, Richard. <i>Totgeschwiegen. <i>Frühe Naturwissenschaftliche Bildung </i>, edited by Helena van Vorst, vol. 44, 2024.","ama":"Rodemer M, Mientus L, Wiedmann J, Nowak A, Pollmeier P. Accurately measuring the rising edge while simultaneously measuring the voltage of the pulse amplitude maximizes the photon-number resolution of SNSPDs. Using an optimal basis of principal components, we show unambiguous discrimination between one- and two-photon events, as well as partial resolution up to five photons. However, the tunneling dynamics in solids, especially nonadiabatic tunneling, has not yet been fully understood. Here, we study the sub-cycle resolved strong-field tunneling dynamics in solids via a complex saddle-point method. We compare the instantaneous momentum at the moment of tunneling and the tunneling distances over a range of Keldysh parameters. Our results demonstrate that for nonadiabatic tunneling, tunneling ionization away from Γ point is possible. When this happens the electron has a nonzero initial velocity when it emerges in the conduction band. Moreover, consistent with atomic tunneling, a reduced tunneling distance as compared to the quasi-static case is found. Our results provide remarkable insight into the basic physics governing the sub-cycle electron tunneling dynamics with significant implications for understanding subsequent strong-field nonlinear phenomena in solids.
"}],"publication":"Optics Express","issue":"9","volume":32,"user_id":"16199","publisher":"Optica Publishing Group","_id":"55264","status":"public","citation":{"mla":"Yang, Shidong, et al. “Sub-Cycle Strong-Field Tunneling Dynamics in Solids.” <i>Optics Express</i>, vol. 32, no. 9, 15862, Optica Publishing Group, 2024, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1364/oe.521207\">10.1364/oe.521207</a>.","bibtex":"@article{Yang_Liu_Zhang_Song_Zuo_Meier_Yang_2024, title={Sub-cycle strong-field tunneling dynamics in solids}, volume={32}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1364/oe.521207\">10.1364/oe.521207</a>}, number={915862}, journal={Optics Express}, publisher={Optica Publishing Group}, author={Yang, Shidong and Liu, Xiwang and Zhang, Hongdan and Song, Xiaohong and Zuo, Ruixin and Meier, Torsten and Yang, Weifeng}, year={2024} }","ama":"Yang S, Liu X, Zhang H, et al. The goal is to reconfigure a set of tiles into a specific shape termed an icicle. The icicle, identified as a dense, hole-free structure, is strategically chosen to function as an intermediate shape for more intricate shape formation tasks. It is designed for easy exploration by a finite state agent, enabling the identification of tiles that can be lifted without breaking connectivity. Compared to the line shape, the icicle presents distinct advantages, including a reduced diameter and the presence of multiple removable tiles. We propose an algorithm that transforms an arbitrary initially connected tile structure into an icicle in 𝒪(n³) steps, matching the runtime of the line formation algorithm from prior work. Our theoretical contribution is accompanied by an extensive experimental analysis, indicating that our algorithm decreases the diameter of tile structures on average.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"3rd Symposium on Algorithmic Foundations of Dynamic Networks (SAND 2024)","department":[{"_id":"79"}],"keyword":["Programmable Matter","Shape Formation","3D Model","Finite Automaton"],"type":"conference","date_created":"2024-06-18T07:45:34Z","intvolume":" 292","date_updated":"2024-07-18T09:32:49Z","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1868-8969"],"isbn":["978-3-95977-315-7"]},"author":[{"last_name":"Hinnenthal","first_name":"Kristian","full_name":"Hinnenthal, Kristian","id":"32229"},{"id":"55557","full_name":"Liedtke, David Jan","last_name":"Liedtke","first_name":"David Jan"},{"first_name":"Christian","last_name":"Scheideler","full_name":"Scheideler, Christian","id":"20792"}],"title":"Efficient Shape Formation by 3D Hybrid Programmable Matter: An Algorithm for Low Diameter Intermediate Structures","year":"2024","doi":"10.4230/LIPIcs.SAND.2024.15","series_title":"Leibniz International Proceedings in Informatics (LIPIcs)","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"citation":{"ama":"Hinnenthal K, Liedtke DJ, Scheideler C. In this model, a single agent with strictly limited viewing range and the computational capability of a deterministic finite automaton can act on passive tiles by picking up a tile, moving, and placing it at some spot. The goal of the coating problem is to fill each node of some surface graph of size n with a tile. We first solve the problem on a restricted class of graphs with a single tile type, and then use constantly many tile types to encode this graph in certain surface graphs capturing the surface of 3D objects. However, their limited stability under relevant conditions often presents a challenge. Herein, the structural stability of DNA origami nanostructures is investigated in a setting compatible with their application in photodynamic therapy (PDT). To this end, DNA origami triangles and six‐helix bundles (6HBs) are loaded with the clinically tested photosensitizer methylene blue, which upon irradiation with red light generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) that attack the DNA origami nanostructures. ROS‐induced structural damage is observed to depend on the ionic composition of the surrounding medium and becomes more severe at low ionic strength. Mg2+ ions can efficiently protect the DNA origami nanostructures from ROS‐induced damage and may even heal some of the damage obtained under Mg2+‐free conditions when added after irradiation. Finally, the employed DNA origami 6HBs are more resistant toward ROS‐induced structural damage than the triangles, which is attributed to their markedly different mechanical properties. These results thus provide some fundamental insights into the stabilizing role of DNA origami superstructure that may guide the selection or design of DNA origami nanocarriers with optimized stability for their application in PDT.
","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Small Structures","citation":{"bibtex":"@article{Rabbe_Garcia‐Diosa_Grundmeier_Keller_2024, title={Ion‐Dependent Stability of DNA Origami Nanostructures in the Presence of Photo‐Generated Reactive Oxygen Species}, DOI={<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1002/sstr.202400094\">10.1002/sstr.202400094</a>}, journal={Small Structures}, publisher={Wiley}, author={Rabbe, Lukas and Garcia‐Diosa, Jaime Andres and Grundmeier, Guido and Keller, Adrian}, year={2024} }","ama":"Rabbe L, Garcia‐Diosa JA, Grundmeier G, Keller A.
