A characteristic material property for polymers is the low thermal conductivity. However, for specific applications, such as additively manufactured injection molding tool inserts, increased thermal conductivity is advantageous. In this study, the influence of fillers of different types, shapes and sizes on the resulting thermal conductivity of compounds is investigated. The aim is to analyze the effects of the fillers, considering the FFF-typical strand structure. The first step is to characterize the fillers in terms of shape and size. Based on this, the resulting thermal conductivity of specimens manufactured in the FFF process for different build orientations is specifically examined and compared to injection molding. This ensures that the process- and material-related anisotropy of the specimens is considered in the analysis. For the evaluation, a methodology is developed to be applied in Laser Flash Analysis (LFA), which allows the results to be evaluated despite the characteristic FFF surface structure. For the final visualization of the influence of the particle size on the particle orientation, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images of the relevant polymer compounds are made. Spring steel wires are usually supplied and stored on coils. The manufacturing and coiling processes of these wires induce inhomogeneous plastic deformations that lead to undesirable residual stresses and varying wire curvatures in the semi-finished product. These residual stresses and curvatures defects are causing varying process conditions in the subsequent manufacturing processes, which have a negative impact on the product quality, leading to wastage and thus affecting the economic and ecological efficiency. Especially the curvature deviations must be compensated for the stability of the subsequent processes. This is usually realised with roller straighteners, which are set manually by the machine operators only at the beginning of a process. In this paper, we introduce a new approach with a modular straightening-machine design and a new set-up process. The more isolated deformation behaviour in a module-based straightener overcomes the complexity of interactions between the close-positioned spaced straightening rollers. This is combined with a set-up process that is independent of conventional material testing, modelling the actual and batch-specific behaviour of the wire in the straightening process. The exact knowledge and time-consuming determination of the material properties thus becomes obsolete. Therefore, already used systems are retrofitted by \r\nintegrating sensors to monitor their performance and \r\nfunctionality, enabling accurate diagnosis of their condition and \r\nprediction of their remaining useful life. One of the main \r\nchallenges in this field is identified in the missing data from the \r\ntime where the retrofitted system has already run but without \r\nbeing monitored by sensors. In this paper, a novel approach for \r\nthe combined diagnostics and prognostics of retrofitted systems is \r\nproposed. The methodology aims to provide an accurate diagnosis \r\nof the system’s health state and estimation of the remaining useful \r\nlife by a combination of a machine learning and expert knowledge. \r\nTo evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, a case \r\nstudy involving a retrofitted system in an industrial setting is \r\nselected and applied. It is demonstrated that the approach \r\neffectively diagnose the current system’s health state and \r\naccurately predict its remaining useful life, thereby enabling \r\npredictive maintenance and decision-making. A slow reaction rate and suboptimal chemical equilibrium conditions were identified as key limitations, restricting the absorption efficiency and CO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> loading capacity of the glucosamine solution. They are characterized by cascading effects with global and local interdependencies. Extreme data must be included as a basis for decision-making. The impact in emergency response depends on diverse, multidisciplinary competencies required to interpret information. Scenarios are used in various forms of preparation: in exercises, but also for the design of information systems and validation. Based on literature, this article brings together different types of scenarios and related work in the field of Model-Based Systems Engineering. Using an exemplary case relating to possible pluvial urban floods, the added value resulting from a focus on the impact of innovative solutions is discussed. The former is an adaptive mesh refinement on the macroscale, which allows to control the spatial discretization errors. The latter is an efficient combination of a numerically low cost nonuniform transformation field analysis (NTFA) and numerically high cost full‐field elasto‐plastic homogenization methods on the microscale. The present contribution deals with the application of the concept of downwind and upwind approximations to a goal‐oriented a posteriori error estimator based on duality techniques by means of reduced order homogenization schemes like NTFA, and with accuracy and numerical efficiency of the proposed goal‐oriented adaptive framework. NTFA consists of an offline phase and an online phase. During the offline phase, some relevant information of the micro system under consideration is precomputed allowing a reduced set of equations to be solved in the online phase. Thus, NTFA leads to a quite efficient homogenization method but less accurate compared to the full‐field homogenization method which is characterized with a high computational demand for accounting nonlinear microstructural mechanisms. Due to nonlinearities and time‐dependency of plasticity, the estimation of error transport and error generation are obtained with a backward‐in‐time dual method despite a high demand on memory capacity. In this contribution, the dual problem is solved with a forward‐in‐time dual method that allows estimating the full error during the resolution of the primal problem without the need for extra memory capacity.
