  text: As the need to improve reliability, availability and safety of technical systems
    increases, a large number of proactive maintenance strategies have been proposed.
    Of greater interest is the development of prognostic and health management strategies
    where maintenance is scheduled based on the current and the predicted future health
    state of a technical system. In addition, prognostic information can be used to
    control the reliability of intelligent mechatronic systems to ensure their mission
    objective is achieved. Therefore methodologies for estimating these current and
    future health states reliably and accurately are imperative. With the advancement
    in sensor technology, majority of the present day technical systems are installed
    with a network of sensors for condition or performance monitoring. This has led
    to the increased application of machine learning algorithms in condition monitoring.
    Depending on the sensor data available, different approaches for utilizing the
    data with machine learning algorithms can be applied. However, aguide for selecting
    the appropriate approach for a given system is either lacking or has not been
    explored extensively. Therefore, this work aims at providing a guide for selecting
    suitable approaches and machine learning algorithms for a given system depending
    on the available sensor data.Five approaches for prognostics and an ensemble of
    the best performing approaches are presented. Since the performance of machine
    learning algorithms is highly dependent on the input features, methods for feature
    extraction and selection are also presented. The approaches are evaluated and
    validated with run-to-failure condition monitoring data of actual systems. This
    information could serve as a guide for selecting the appropriate method for a
    given kind of system depending on the available condition monitoring data.

  text: <jats:p>Lightweight design in vehicles leads to an increasing use of fibre-reinforced-plastics
    (FRP). To ensure the possibility of detachable joints in those constructions specific
    joining technologies have to be developed. Available technologies are not suitable
    for mass production or are leading to damage in the FRP. The aim of this paper
    is to show the possibilities and the general feasibility of a new process approach
    for the application of functional elements in FRP or hybrid materials during resin
    transfer moulding (RTM) processes. Therefore the movement of the RTM-tool-punch
    is utilised to produce an interlock between the splay stud and the fibres of the
    non-consolidated preform. This enables the application of the elements during
    the RTM-process. The resin infusion leads to the consolidation of the CFRP and
    a further fixation of the splay stud. Pull-out-tests as well as torsion tests
    are showing the mechanical performance of the joints.</jats:p>

  text: "Den additiven Fertigungsverfahren wird ein hohes Potential zugesprochen,
    die industrielle Fertigung von Bauteilen und Werkzeugen nachhaltig zu ändern.
    Dies gilt auch für das hier betrachtete Laserstrahlschmelzen, bei dem metallische
    Werkstoffe in Pulverform verarbeitet werden. Durch den schichtweisen Aufbau können
    dabei enorme Vorteile gegenüber konventionellen Fertigungsverfahren erzielt werden,
    was sich u. a. in einem bis dato unerreichten Maß an Geometriefreiheit widerspiegelt.\r\n\r\nAllerdings
    werden die Werkstoffeigenschaften teils erheblich durch kurze und intensive Wechselwirkungen
    zwischen Laser und Werkstoff bestimmt. Hierdurch können sich werkstoff-spezifische
    Nachteile gegenüber konventionellen Fertigungsverfahren ergeben, die eine weitreichende
    Etablierung des Laserstrahlschmelzens erschweren.\r\n\r\nVor diesem Hintergrund
    zielt die vorliegende Dissertation auf eine Analyse und ggf. Optimierung der mikrostrukturellen
    und mechanischen Eigenschaften laserstrahlgeschmolzener Werkstoffe. Der Schwerpunkt
    liegt hierbei auf einer Ermüdungsbeanspruchung, da Einflüsse prozess-induzierter
    Defektstrukturen unter dieser Beanspruchungsform besonders deutlich werden. Durch
    umfangreiche Untersuchungen können dabei Prozessrouten aufgezeigt werden, die
    für die betrachteten Werkstoffe TiAl6V4 und 316L den detektierten Schädigungsmechanismen
    Rechnung tragen und somit zu einer technologischen Konkurrenzfähigkeit des Laserstrahlschmelzens
    führen."
