  text: We present a data acquisition and visualization pipeline that allows experts
    to monitor additive manufacturing processes, in particular laser metal deposition
    with wire (LMD-w) processes, in immersive virtual reality. Our virtual environment
    consists of a digital shadow of the LMD-w production site enriched with additional
    measurement data shown on both static as well as handheld virtual displays. Users
    can explore the production site by enhanced teleportation capabilities that enable
    them to change their scale as well as their elevation above the ground plane.
    In an exploratory user study with 22 participants, we demonstrate that our system
    is generally suitable for the supervision of LMD-w processes while generating
    low task load and cybersickness. Therefore, it serves as a first promising step
    towards the successful application of virtual reality technology in the comparatively
    young field of additive manufacturing.

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Engineering projects for complex
    technical systems such as automobiles demand extensive requirement specifications
    and corresponding hierarchy levels in system architectures. Especially when considering
    emergent phenomena, such as total weight or aerodynamics, a closely networked
    collaboration of discipline‐specific and cross‐disciplinary roles is required.
    Further, in large organizations with a group structure, resulting functional and
    non‐functional contents need to be managed by distinct Systems Engineering roles.
    For example, the role “property manager” takes care of achieving overarching product
    properties, such as weight or aerodynamics, which cannot be directly fixed, but
    result from many specifications. This paper proposes new Systems Engineering roles
    and their application in a German Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). For validation,
    the roles have already been applied in everyday engineering projects at the OEM.
    The concept proved to be indispensable and transferable to other Systems Engineering
    projects.</jats:p>

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Polycarbonate (PC) is an amorphous
    polymer that is an extremely robust material with a high tenacity, and thus suitable
    for a lightweight construction with glass‐like transparency. Due to these advantageous
    properties, PC is often used in industry for example in medical devices, automotive
    headlamps, sporting equipment, electronics, and a variety of other products. PC
    is often subjected to uniaxial and biaxial loading conditions. Therefore, reliable
    material models have to take into account the various resulting experimental effects.
    For those reasons, we investigate PC specimens under uniaxial and biaxial loading
    by using different stretch rates and loading scenarios. In addition to that, we
    propose methods for optical measurement of local stretches to obtain the approximated
    local true stress. In future work, the displacement fields and the resulting reaction
    forces will be used for parameter identification of constitutive equations.</jats:p>

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Cold forming of polycarbonate films
    results in the formation of shear bands in the necking zone. The numerical results
    obtained from standard viscoplastic material models exhibit mesh size dependency,
    requiring mathematical regularization. For this purpose, we present in this work
    a large deformation gradient theory for a viscoplastic isotropic material model
    published before. We extend our model to a micromorphic model by introducing a
    new micromorphic variable as an additional degree of freedom along with its first
    gradient. This variable represents a microequivalent plastic strain. The relation
    between the macroequivalent plastic strain and the micromorphic variable is accomplished
    by a micromorphic coupling modulus. This coupling forces proximity between the
    macro- and microvariables, leading to the targeted regularization effect. The
    micromorphic model is implemented as a three-dimensional initial boundary value
    problem in an in-house finite element tool. The analysis is performed for both
    uniaxial and biaxial specimens. The provided numerical examples show the ability
    of our model to regularize shear bands within the specimens and address the issue
    of localization.</jats:p>

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>A new control method aims at the
    precise high dynamic control of the force signal for experimental vibration analysis,
    which is generated by an electrodynamic shaker. A bending beam is used as a nonlinear
    test object. A design and a surrogate model of the test rig are shown and parameterized
    based on test rig measurements. The force control algorithm using input/output
    linearisation is described and implemented in Matlab/Simulink for simulative validation
    studies. Conclusions drawn from the mathematical description of the problem as
    well as simulation results show that the design of the contact between shaker
    and test object is crucial to achieve a high control bandwidth and at the same
    time reduce the energy consumption of the shaker. This leads to the practical
    application using a novel damping contact element. Finally, experimental test
    rig results are presented which show a closed loop bandwidth of at least 250 Hz
    for sinusoidal excitation signals.</jats:p>

  text: The widespread adoption of ultra-high strength steels, due to their high bulk
    resistivity, intensifies expulsion issues in resistance spot welding (RSW), deteriorating
    both the spot weld and surface quality. This study presents a novel approach to
    prevent expulsion by employing a preheating current. Through characteristic analysis
    of joint formation under critical welding current, the importance of plastic material
    encapsulation around the weld nugget (plastic shell) at high temperatures in preventing
    expulsion is highlighted. To evaluate the effect of preheating on the plastic
    shell and understand its mechanism in expulsion prevention, a two-dimensional
    welding simulation model for dissimilar ultra-high strength steel joints was established.
    The results showed that optimal preheating enhances the thickness of the plastic
    shell, improving its ability to encapsulate the weld nugget during the primary
    welding phase, thereby diminishing expulsion risks. Experimental validation confirmed
    that by employing the optimal preheating current, the maximum nugget diameter
    was enhanced to 9.42 mm, marking an increase of 13.4 % and extending the weldable
    current range by 27.5 %. Under quasi-static cross-tensile loading, joints with
    preheating demonstrated a 7.9 % enhancement in maximum load-bearing capacity compared
    to joints without preheating, showing a reproducible and complete pull-out failure
    mode within the heat-affected zone. This study offers a prevention method based
    on underlying mechanisms, providing a new perspective for future research on welding
    parameter optimization with the aim of expulsion prevention.

  text: Die vorliegende Dissertation beschreibt das Konzept und den Entwicklungsprozess
    eines Lichtsignalanlagenregelungssystems bis zur Realumsetzung. Das Regelungssystem,
    welches im Rahmen des Pilotprojekts Schlosskreuzung entstanden ist, besteht dabei
    aus zwei untereinander abgestimmten Methoden zur Echtzeit-Verkehrsrekonstruktion
    und zur modellprädiktiven Regelung des Verkehrssystems anhand der vorhandenen
    Lichtsignalanlagen. Die Echtzeit-Verkehrsrekonstruktion approximiert dabei simulationsbasiert
    den aktuellen Verkehrszustand anhand gegebener Messdaten über dynamische Verkehrszuweisungen.
    Die entwickelte mehrstufige Lichtsignalanlagenregelung nutzt ein Fuzzy-System
    zur Phasenvorauswahl, um anschließend über eine modellprädiktive Regelung das
    nichtlineare Problem mit dem Ergebnis der optimalen Kombinationen von Phasen und
    Schaltzeitpunkten zu lösen. Das Regelungssystem wird in dieser Arbeit anhand eines
    ausgewählten Verkehrsgebiets zunächst rein simulativ getestet und mit dem vorliegenden
    Bestandsverfahren verglichen. Im Anschluss an die prototypische Inbetriebnahme
    wird dieser Vergleich durch die Feldtests abgeschlossen. Entsprechende Ergebnisse
    zeigen das große Potential der Entwicklung hinsichtlich der Reduktion von Kriterien
    wie Emissionen oder Wartezeiten und gleichzeitig den Handlungsbedarf für eine
    standardmäßige Nutzung.

  text: This dissertation describes the concept and the development process of a traffic
    signal control system up to the real implementation.The control system, which
    was developed in the context of the Pilotprojekt Schlosskreuzung, consists of
    two mutually coordinated methods for real-time traffic reconstruction and for
    model-predictive control of the traffic system based on the existing traffic light
    systems.The real-time traffic reconstruction approximates the current traffic
    state simulation-based using given measurement data via dynamic traffic assignments.The
    designed multi-stage traffic signal control system uses a fuzzy-system for phase
    preselection and subsequently employs model predictive control to solve the nonlinear
    problem resulting in the optimal combinations of phases and switching times.In
    this work, the control system is first tested purely simulatively on the basis
    of a selected traffic area and compared with the existing inventory method.Following
    the prototypical commissioning, this comparison is finalised by field tests.Corresponding
    results show the great potential of the development with regard to the reduction
    of criteria such as emissions or waiting times and at the same time the need for
    action for use as standard.

    für eingangsaffine, nichtlineare Systeme, der trotz Modellungenauigkeiten eine
    hohe Schätzgüte erzielt und zusätzlich eine parametrische, physikalisch interpretierbare
    Darstellung dieser ermöglicht. Diese soll zur automatisierten Verbesserung des
    Modells verwendet werden. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert sowohl Techniken der
    hybriden Systemidentifikation wie physikalisch motivierte neuronale Netze, als
    auch Methoden zur Kompensation von Modellungenauigkeiten im Beobachterentwurf.
    Basierend auf der Analyse wird ein neuartiger, modellbasierter Beobachter entworfen,
    der Systemzustände und Modellungenauigkeiten gleichzeitig schätzt und insbesondere
    eine parametrische, physikalisch interpretierbare Darstellung der Ungenauigkeiten
    erzielt. Diese besteht aus einer Linearkombination von physikalisch interpretierbaren
    Funktionen, deren dazugehörige, dünnbesetzt modellierte Parameter mithilfe eines
    augmentierten Zustands parallel zu den Systemzuständen geschätzt werden. Das Novum
    dieser Arbeit stellt somit die echtzeitfähige Schätzung von Zuständen und Modellungenauigkeiten
    in physikalisch-technischer Form dar, auf deren Grundlage ein Konzept zur automatisierten
    Modelladaption umgesetzt wird. Die Applikation der neuartigen Methode ist in der
    Situation auftretender Systemveränderungen besonders vorteilhaft, da diese zur
    Laufzeit durch den augmentierten Beobachter\r\ngeschätzt und identifiziert werden

  text: "The aim of this thesis is the development of a model-based observer for input-affine,
    nonlinear systems that achieves a high estimation quality despite model inaccuracies.
    By additionally providing a parametric, physically interpretable representation
    of the model inaccuracies, an automated improvement of the model should be enabled.
    This thesis\r\nanalyzes techniques of hybrid system identification such as physics-guided
    neural networks, as well as methods for compensating model inaccuracies within
    the observer design. Based on this analysis, a novel model-based observer is designed,
    which estimates states and model inaccuracies jointly and, in particular, obtains
    a parametric, physically\r\ninterpretable representation of the inaccuracies.
    This consists of a linear combination of physically interpretable functions, whose
    associated parameters are modeled sparse and estimated in parallel to the system’s
    states using an augmented state. The novelty of this thesis is thus the real-time
    capability to jointly estimate states and model inaccuracies in a physical-technical
    manner, on the basis of which an automated model adaption can be\r\ncarried out.
    The application of the new methodology is particularly advantageous in the situation
    of occurring system changes since these can be estimated and identified at run
    time by the augmented observer."
