  text: Increasing the sustainability and resource efficiency of forming processes
    is one of today's major goals. High-strength wire materials are usually available
    as strip material and are subjected to a downstream forming process such as punch-bending
    to produce parts for the electronics industry, for example. During the manufacturing
    process of the semi-finished product, residual stresses and plastic deformations
    are introduced into the wire by rolling and drawing processes. Straightening machines
    are used in the production lines to compensate for these. To increase the sustainability
    of these production lines, the straightening process is an essential step. Before
    the continuous manufacturing process starts, the straightening process must be
    set up and the optimal roller positions must be found. Once the process is set
    up, the roller position settings are usually not changed. Due to missing measurement
    systems for the straightening quality, it is not possible to dynamically adjust
    the positions of the straightening rollers to variations in the material properties.
    This leads to deviations in the dimensional accuracy of the components to be produced
    and thus to an increase in the rejection rate in the manufacturing processes.
    To reduce the rejection rate, a novel control system for a continuous feedback
    control of a straightening process is presented in this paper. This leads to a
    reduction of the rejection rate and unnecessary preforming operations in wire
    straightening process. The result is an increasing sustainability and efficiency
    of these production process.

  text: The incremental flow forming process is currently enhanced in research context
    by special closed-loop property control concepts to increase the productivity
    and to control the product properties making invisible property structures like
    a magnetic barcode possible. However, it is preferred to establish property control
    concepts on single roller machines instead of conventional machines with three
    roller actuation due to the better machine accessibility. For those single roller
    machines, rather poor surface qualities of flow formed workpieces were observed
    in the past especially for hydraulic actuators. Thus, a new actuator closed-loop
    position control concept is developed in this paper using model-based control
    design methods and taking the flow forming forces as a load into account. The
    novel closed-loop control is validated during workpiece production at the actual
    single roller flow forming machine. An analysis of the manufactured workpieces
    show that the surface quality is significantly enhanced by the new control to
    a roughness level almost similar to conventional three roller flow forming. Thus,
    a sincere added value to the flow forming process is offered by the novel actuator
    closed-loop position control.

  text: In multi-stage bending and straightening operations cross-stage and quantity-dependent
    effects crucially affect the quality of the end product. Using punch-bending units
    in combination with a mechatronic straightening device can improve the accuracy
    and repeatability of product features remarkably well. In this work a concept
    for an innovative hybrid model of a roll straightener in a multi-stage straightening
    and multi-stage bending process is proposed. This model combines data-driven elements
    with expert knowledge and aims to minimise residual errors of the roll straightener
    to reliably decrease the risk of disadvantageous cross-stage and quantity-dependent
    effects on a subsequent punch-bending process.

  text: In manufacturing, property control ensures efficient part production. However,
    in reverse flow forming, current practices focus on geometry control rather than
    property control. To address the complexity of the process and tool machine interaction,
    process control is crucial for defined component properties. This study focuses
    on controlling local α’ martensite content in reverse flow forming of seamless
    AISI 304L steel tubes. Strategies and systems are presented to influence α’ martensite
    content, creating unique microstructure profiles for 1D  and 2D Gradings, with
    tangible component outcomes.

  text: <jats:p>The content of university teaching in engineering sciences, particularly
    in product creation, is characterised by the development of application skills.
    Changing working conditions require new teaching concepts that are oriented towards
    the needs of students and practice and consider the acquisition of soft skills.
    A key method to be considered in this context is the Scenario-Technique. In this
    paper, a one-day workshop based on a software tool for the Scenario-Technique
    is presented that focusses on competence development for Scenario-Technique in
    form of a learning concept. Based on a systematic literature analysis, existing
    approaches for learning the Scenario-Technique are identified and requirements
    for a subsequently developed software-supported Scenario-Technique workshop are
    established. Using a case study, the learning concept is validated in two test
    phases for comprehensibility, user-friendliness, and practical suitability. The
    result is a concept that enables practice-oriented learning of the Scenario-Technique.</jats:p>

    relevant engineering artefacts and relationships. Therefore, a high model quality
    must be ensured. Currently, there is no method for defining company-specific metrics
    to assess system model quality. In a six-step research approach, a method is defined:
    (1) literature analysis on quality assessment approaches, (2) derivation of success
    factors, (3) evaluation of approaches, (4) development of a method, (5) application
    in automotive industry, and (6) evaluation. The method supports system engineers

  text: 'New technologies and materials carry significant potential for sustainable
    production and use of products. As an example, Additive Manufacturing technologies
    and materials promise lightweight design and energy efficient use of parts. Exhausting
    the full potential requires: a) consideration of uncertainties with respect to
    future capabilities, and b) upgradeable design guidelines to cover advancements
    consistently. The proposed approach merges concepts of Design-for-X with foresight
    algorithms of Scenario-Technique to derive actionable knowledge. It is validated
    by an application in the field of Additive Manufacturing, namely Metal Fused Deposition
    Modelling. Engineers benefit from the intuitive access to heterogeneous types
    of sustainability related information.'

  text: Knowledge management is essential for successful disaster management. This
    paper conducts a Systematic Literature Review at the intersection of the knowledge
    management field and disaster management and examines the available body of literature.
    Fire departments are chosen as the focus group as they are the most prevalent
    emergency services. There are many publications that deal with knowledge management
    during the response phase of an emergency. Often, the literature focuses on the
    application of knowledge management in large-scale disasters to link the various
    organizations on-scene. What is missing in most approaches is a prior step of
    implementing and training the knowledge management system. Therefore, this literature
    review seeks to provide an overview of approaches for daily routines and small-to-medium
    incidents that serve as a training ground. However, literature on non-incident
    phases and smaller incidents is scarce. As information technologies are developing
    rapidly, there is no modern and recent description of the current use of knowledge
    management solutions in this area.

  text: 'Generative design suggestions and topology optimizations can help to reduce
    iterative process loops between calculation and design departments during product
    development processes. However, precise topology optimizations are computationally
    intensive, while generative designs benefit from swift suggestions to address
    design problems efficiently. Using artificial neural networks (ANN) can address
    this contrast of pre-defined aims by predicting topology-optimized designs, thereby
    combining both advantageous features. However, a challenge in Mass Customization
    is, that ANN are usually trained on specific geometries, making transfer to other
    applications impractical or requiring the creation of new datasets, which is economically
    unfeasible. Authors have already demonstrated a solution in other publications:
    dividing a geometry into geometric primitives like cuboids to perform abstraction.
    An ANN can then be trained to recognize optimized cuboids, which can be assembled
    back into a complete geometry, comparable to the finite element methods, which
    divide geometries of parts in finite elements enable mechanical property calculation.
    This publication aims to illustrate the steps of the approach in which the complete
    geometry of a part is segmented into these primitives, and the benefits obtained.
    Various methods will be explored, including automated workflows on modern low-code
    platforms, to enable generalized use.'

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Rolling processes of conventional
    cast Al-Li alloys quickly reach their limits due to relatively poor material formability.
    This can be overcome by using twin-roll casting to produce thin sheets. Further
    thermomechanical treatment, including hot or cold rolling, and heat treatment
    can adjust the mechanical properties of twin-roll cast Al-Li sheets. The whole
    manufacturing chain requires detailed knowledge of the precipitation and dissolution
    behavior during heating, soaking and cooling, to purposefully select any process
    parameters. This study shows the process chain of a twin-roll cast Al–Cu–Li alloy
    achieving a hardness of around 180 HV1 by adapting the heat treatment parameters
    for homogenisation, hot rolling and age hardening. Both hardness and microstructure
    evolution are visualised along the process chain.</jats:p>

  text: <jats:p>There are numerous initiatives and lighthouse projects around Gaia-X
    to create the basics of open, trustworthy data ecosystems. One of the challenges
    in building these data ecosystems is to convince everyone involved of the advantages
    of multilateral data sharing. A prerequisite is also a common understanding of
    the rights of use and access to the data. Data sovereignty means that the data
    provider decides which data with which usage and access rights he wants to make
    accessible to which user group. Standardised digital representations by, for instance,
    the Asset Administration Shell (AAS enable creation of such data ecosystems, interlinking
    the physical and digital space. In the paper at hand, a conceptual approach named
    Decide4Eco is presented with the aim to enable systematic and flexible decision-making
    support for product planning and development concerning the sustainability of
    a product and the entire value chain. Methods of sustainability assessment are
    expanded to include predictive AI-based effects analyses.</jats:p>
