  abstract     = {{Der Beitrag konzentriert sich am Beispiel des IVAR Planers auf die virtuellen Einrichtungstools des Einrichtungskonzerns IKEA und fragt danach, welche Politiken des Wohnens und Einrichtens sich aus der Medialität dieser virtuellen Umgebungen ergeben. Anhand von Stefan Riegers Überlegungen zum virtuellen Testen werden diese Planungstools einerseits als auf Dauer gestellte Testumgebungen verstanden, die es den Kund*innen erlauben, das eigene Zuhause – ökologisch wie ökonomisch niederschwellig – virtuell immer wieder einzurichten. Andererseits werden die Anrufungen zur Kreativität, die ständig an die Kund*innen gerichtet werden, in die Überlegungen mit einbezogen, weil sich daraus eine paradoxe Konstellation ergibt: Zum einen sollen so die virtuellen Einrichtungstools kreatives Potenzial und eigenständige Gestaltung aufrufen; zum anderen werden diese Aufrufe aber durch die Medialität der Tools eingehegt und damit zu einem Steuerungsregime.}},

Um den Aufbau vernetzten Wissens bei Bachelorstudierenden der Komparatistik zu unterstützen, ist in diesem Projekt Portfolioarbeit eingesetzt worden, die als Methode selbsttätigen und selbstreflexiven Lernens geeignet erscheint, zur Auseinandersetzung mit Lerninhalten zu motivieren und zur Kompetenzentwicklung der Studierenden beizutragen. Mittels unstrukturierter Beobachtungen der Portfolioarbeit im Seminar sind inhaltliche Effekte und methodische Entwicklungen erfasst worden. Anhand anteilig quantitativer, überwiegend qualitativer Inhaltsanalysen der Portfolios sind konkrete Vernetzungen zwischen Lerninhalten ermittelt worden. Die Explorationsstudie zeigt veränderte Perspektiven und geweckte Interessen bei den Studierenden durch die Portfolioarbeit sowie vielfältige Kontextualisierungen, Vergleiche und Verknüpfungen in den Portfolios auf und bietet hierdurch einen möglichen Ansatzpunkt für strukturelle Empfehlungen für das Studienfach Komparatistik.}},

  abstract     = {{Continuous flow catalysis utilizing gel-bound organocatalysts within a microfluidic reactor represents a compelling strategy in the realm of organic synthesis. In this study, a quinuclidine-based catalytic monomer (QMA) was synthesized to create polymer gel dots through the process of photopolymerization that serve as a support for the catalyst. The resulting gel-bound organocatalysts were assembled within a continuous microfluidic reactor to facilitate the Baylis–Hillman reaction between various aldehydes and acrylonitrile at a temperature of 50 °C. The conversion of the product was assessed using 1H NMR spectroscopy as an offline analytical method over a duration of 8 h. The findings indicated that highly reactive aldehydes achieved conversion rates exceeding 90%, in contrast to their less reactive counterparts. Furthermore, these results were juxtaposed with previously published data derived from alternative synthetic methodologies, revealing that the continuous microfluidic reactions employing integrated organocatalysts within polymer networks exhibited significantly higher conversions with reduced reaction times (8 h) at the same temperature (50 °C). Additionally, the influence of different geometries (round, triangular, and square) of the gel dots on catalytic activity was investigated, with round and square gel dots demonstrating slightly superior performance compared with triangular gel dots, attributed to their increased surface area. Moreover, an extended reaction period of 6 days was conducted using 4-bromobenzaldehyde and acrylonitrile, resulting in a conversion rate exceeding 70%, which remained stable for 5 days before experiencing a slight decline due to product accumulation on the gel dots.}},

  abstract     = {{Manufacturing tolerances have a measurable influence on the structural integrity of self-piercing riveted (SPR) joints in automotive applications, yet their quantitative impact on load-bearing behavior remains insufficiently resolved. This study establishes a validated hierarchical methodology to predict tolerance-dependent failure behavior of SPR joints, progressing from coupon to sub-component scale through an integrated experimental–numerical approach. Five critical manufacturing tolerances, including rivet length (±0.5 mm), rivet head position (±0.3 mm), orthogonality deviation (2.8° and 5°), lateral offset (up to 1.2 mm), and flange overlap reduction (up to 7.5 mm), were investigated. Steel–steel joints exhibited a higher sensitivity to tolerances by a factor of 2–3 compared to steel–aluminum joints. A unified effective rivet length concept was developed to consolidate the geometric effects of all tolerances into a single physically meaningful parameter, enabling load-bearing capacity prediction with R2 > 0.95 across all evaluated loading directions. The sub-component validation employing T-joint specimens indicates a 2–3 fold amplification of tolerance effects at critical structural regions, providing experimental evidence for the hierarchical scaling principle. The methodology was implemented in a tolerance-dependent CONSTRAINED_SPR3 formulation, providing >99 % computational efficiency improvement while maintaining a deviation in maximum force prediction within ±7 %. This framework enables the physically consistent representation of manufacturing variation within large-scale simulations and establishes a transferable basis for tolerance-resilient virtual vehicle development.}},

  abstract     = {{Large intermediate results can cause join queries to run unexpectedly long. This problem is particularly common for analytical queries, which aggregate data over many tables to produce a comparatively small final output, and queries on graph data, where intermediate results blow up quickly. Recent work inspired by Yannakakis’ algorithm approaches this by modifying the query engine to avoid materializing unnecessary tuples. However, this requires significant changes to the core of the system, which is not feasible in many situations such as cloud environments or proprietary systems.
In this work, we propose a flexible approach for optimizing long-running join queries from the outside of the DBMS. Rewriting-based realizations of Yannakakis’ algorithm suffer from inherent overhead due to the creation of intermediate tables. Thus, we present an approach for detecting and targeting queries which would benefit from a Yannakakis-style optimization. We introduce a new benchmark combining 5 standard benchmarks and augmenting them with additional instances, which provides a sufficient size and diversity for a machine learning based solution. On PostgreSQL, DuckDB and SparkSQL, slowdowns on queries where the rewriting is counterproductive are mostly avoided, as opposed to a naïve application of the rewriting, and we observe significant improvements in end-to-end runtimes over standard query execution and unconditional rewriting.}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:p>The aggregation of rating metrics in reputation systems is crucial for mitigating information overload by condensing customer rating distributions into singular valence scores. While platforms typically employ technical aggregation functions, such as the arithmetic mean to capture product quality, it remains unclear whether these functions align with customers' innate aggregation patterns. To address this knowledge gap, we designed a controlled economic decision experiment to elicit customers' aggregation principles by analyzing their product ranking decisions and contrasting these with various reference functions. Our findings indicate that, on average, customers aggregate rating information in accordance with the arithmetic mean. However, a granular analysis at the individual level reveals significant heterogeneity in aggregation behavior, with a substantial cluster exhibiting binary patterns that focus equally on negative (1-2 star) and positive (4-5 star) ratings. Additional clusters concentrate on negative feedback, particularly 1-star ratings or 1-2 star ratings collectively. Notably, these inherent aggregation patterns exhibit stability across variations in numerical information presentation and are not significantly influenced by individual characteristics, such as online shopping experience, risk attitudes, or demographics. These findings suggest that while the arithmetic mean captures average consumer behavior, platforms could benefit from offering customizable aggregation options to better cater to diverse user preferences for processing rating distributions. By doing so, platforms can enhance the effectiveness of their reputation systems and improve the overall quality of decision-making for consumers.</jats:p>}},

                  <jats:p>Social media is integral to adolescents’ daily lives and plays an important role in their health- and fitness-related behavior, particularly through trends such as #fitspiration, a portmanteau of “fit” and “inspiration.” This trend has become a prominent aspect of adolescents’ fitness culture. Empirical studies demonstrate that while #fitspiration holds the potential to motivate adolescents to be physically active, it also perpetuates gender-stereotyped, predominantly White, ableist, and normative body ideals associated with fitness and an idealized weight. This trend can be linked to an increased risk of body image concerns or disordered eating among adolescents. Understanding adolescents’ engagement with fitspiration content is crucial for tailoring health and media literacy education within physical education. Therefore, a systematic review of qualitative and quantitative studies was conducted. A search of five electronic databases yielded 312 abstracts, of which 12 met the inclusion criteria. The analysis of the selected studies was based on thematic analysis and included both primary and secondary data. Seven analytical themes emerged: (1) 37–56% of adolescents actively engage with fitspiration content on social media; (2) it fulfills their need for informal and accessible participation; (3) it fosters a sense of social connection; (4) they derive inspiration from peers and influencers; (5) they aspire to idealized body standards; (6) they seek quick solutions when dissatisfied with their bodies; and (7) a few become demotivated and critical when unable to achieve these ideals. Consequently, educators should balance the potential benefits with media literacy interventions to mitigate risks such as body image issues and eating disorders.</jats:p>}},

Mindestens seit Darwin und Galton sind die Modifizierung des menschlichen Individuums und die Optimierung der menschlichen Spezies diskutiert worden, spätestens seit den 1980er Jahren haben humangenetische und biotechnologische Entwicklungen den Diskurs neu perspektiviert. Literatur trägt zu diesem Diskurs bei, indem sie Erprobungs- und Reflexionsräume schafft: Sie modelliert menschliche Subjekte, die in eugenetische Zukunftsszenarien eingeschrieben sind, und entwickelt spezifische Erzählweisen, die diese Subjekte, ihre Lebensweisen und ihr Lebenswissen, narrativ erfahrbar machen. Fünf eugenetische Romane der englisch- und deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur werden in der Studie hinsichtlich Subjektmodellierungen und Narrationsweisen im Kontext der Eugenetik untersucht.}},
