In order to achieve a targeted free spectral range of 1.44 THz, which is large given the reduced optical confinement of the silicon nitride platform, individual ring resonators are designed with tapered waveguides. Its application to time-interleaved photonically-assisted ADCs is analyzed by combining experimental characterization of the photonic integrated circuit with a comprehensive model of the entire ADC. The impact of fundamental signal distortion and noise sources affecting the converter is investigated and suitable equalization techniques at the digital signal processing level are evaluated. The novel application of a simple but powerful equalization filter in the DSP domain allows for a significant improvement of the digitized signal SNR. An ENOB of 5 over a 75 GHz bandwidth (150 GS/s) and an ENOB of 4.3 over a 100 GHz bandwidth (200 GS/s) are expected to be achievable with compact and off-the-shelf single-section semiconductor mode locked lasers, that can be further improved with lower noise light sources.","lang":"eng"}],"article_number":"4444","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1364/oe.441406","year":"2022","title":"Wideband SiN pulse interleaver for optically-enabled analog-to-digital conversion: a device-to-system analysis with cyclic equalization","publication_identifier":{"issn":["1094-4087"]},"author":[{"last_name":"Zazzi","first_name":"Andrea","full_name":"Zazzi, Andrea"},{"full_name":"Müller, Juliana","first_name":"Juliana","last_name":"Müller"},{"full_name":"Ghannam, Ibrahim","first_name":"Ibrahim","last_name":"Ghannam"},{"first_name":"Moritz","last_name":"Battermann","full_name":"Battermann, Moritz"},{"first_name":"Gayatri Vasudevan","last_name":"Rajeswari","full_name":"Rajeswari, Gayatri Vasudevan"},{"id":"44271","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2699-9839","first_name":"Maxim","last_name":"Weizel","full_name":"Weizel, Maxim"},{"id":"37144","full_name":"Scheytt, J. Competitions and benchmarks have been critical tools for accelerating progress in AutoML. However, much of the prior work on AutoML competitions has focused on well-studied domains in machine learning such as vision and language—these are domains which have benefited from several years of ML pipeline design by domain experts, which brings the usage of AutoML into question in the first place. Recently, AutoML for diverse tasks has emerged as an important research area that aims to bring AutoML to the domains where it can have the most impact: the long tail of ML tasks <em>beyond vision and language</em>. We present a retrospective report of the AutoML Decathlon—an AutoML for diverse tasks competition hosted at NeurIPS 2022. The AutoML Decathlon presented participants with a set of 10 machine learning tasks that are diverse along several axes: domain, input dimension, output dimension, output type, objective function, and scale. Participants were tasked with developing AutoML methods that performed well on a <em>separate</em> set of 10 hidden diverse test tasks within a certain time budget, so as to discourage overfitting to the initial set of tasks and to encourage efficiency. In this report, we outline the details of the competition, discuss the top-5 submissions, analyze the results, and compare top submissions to additional state-of-the-art baselines designed specifically for diverse tasks. We conclude that the combination of existing efficient AutoML techniques with modern advancements in ML such as large-scale transfer learning, modern architectures, and differentiable Neural Architecture Search (NAS) is a promising direction for AutoML for diverse tasks."}],"publication":"Proceedings of the NeurIPS 2022 Competitions Track","citation":{"mla":"Roberts, Nicholas, et al. “AutoML Decathlon: Diverse Tasks, Modern Methods, and Efficiency at Scale.” <i>Proceedings of the NeurIPS 2022 Competitions Track</i>, edited by Marco Ciccone et al., vol. 220, PMLR, 2022, pp. 151–170.","bibtex":"@inproceedings{Roberts_Guo_Xu_Talwalkar_Lander_Tao_Cai_Niu_Heng_Qin_et al._2022, series={Proceedings of Machine Learning Research}, title={AutoML Decathlon: Diverse Tasks, Modern Methods, and Efficiency at Scale}, volume={220}, booktitle={Proceedings of the NeurIPS 2022 Competitions Track}, publisher={PMLR}, author={Roberts, Nicholas and Guo, Samuel and Xu, Cong and Talwalkar, Ameet and Lander, David and Tao, Lvfang and Cai, Linhang and Niu, Shuaicheng and Heng, Jianyu and Qin, Hongyang and et al.}, editor={Ciccone, Marco and Stolovitzky, Gustavo and Albrecht, Jacob}, year={2022}, pages={151–170}, collection={Proceedings of Machine Learning Research} }","ama":"Roberts N, Guo S, Xu C, et al. Die freie Bereitstellung wirksamer Unterrichtskonzeptionen zur Unterstützung des Selbststudiums von Lehrkräften bildet eine Strategie für eine flächendeckende Implementierung fachdidaktischer Innovationen.
"}],"publication":"Zeitschrift für Didaktik der Naturwissenschaften","issue":"1","department":[{"_id":"299"},{"_id":"33"}],"type":"journal_article","keyword":["General Medicine"],"date_created":"2023-01-09T15:28:10Z"},{"publication":"Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2022","citation":{"ama":"Mardoyan H, Jorge F, Destraz M, et al. Eberhard holds that there was nothing new, but all delivered in Leibniz and Wolff; to prove his claim he refers to a quote from Du Châtelet, taken from a paragraph where she determines the right understanding as to be able “to penetrate to the origin of phenomena”. This paper brings Du Châtelet into discourse with Kant via this Eberhard quote. In its first part, it investigates the use of her quote in the Kant-Eberhard controversy. The second part serves to ground the quote in Du Châtelet’s epistemology. It lays out how to understand Du Châtelet’s claim to penetrate to the origin of phenomena. Du Châtelet’s claim to have renewed philosophy must be taken seriously, and it is helpful for rethinking the German philosophical development from the rationalists to Kant through including Du Châtelet’s theory of cognition."}],"series_title":"Women in the History of Philosophy and Science ","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1007/978-3-030-89921-9_3","author":[{"full_name":"Hagengruber, Ruth Edith","last_name":"Hagengruber","first_name":"Ruth Edith","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3360-6335","id":"198"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2523-8760","2523-8779"],"isbn":["9783030899202","9783030899219"]},"year":"2022","title":"Du Châtelet and Kant: Claiming the Renewal of Philosophy","intvolume":" 10","publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2025-12-17T13:40:24Z"},{"citation":{"chicago":"Winkler, Michael. “Stabilization of Arbitrary Structures in a Doubly Degenerate Reaction-Diffusion System Modeling Bacterial Motion on a Nutrient-Poor Agar.” <i>Calculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations</i> 61, no. 3 (2022). <a href=\"https://doi.org/10.1007/s00526-021-02168-2\">https://doi.org/10.1007/s00526-021-02168-2</a>.","short":"M. As in previous editions of the Challenge, we use forward-backward convolutional recurrent neural networks (FBCRNNs) [1, 2] for weakly labeled and semi-supervised sound event detection (SED) and eventually generate strong pseudo labels for weakly labeled and unlabeled data. Then, (tag-conditioned) bidirectional CRNNs (Bi-CRNNs) [1, 2] are trained in a strongly supervised manner as our final SED models. In each of the training stages we use multiple iterations of self-training. Compared to previous editions, we improved our system performance by 1) some tweaks regarding data augmentation, pseudo labeling and inference 2) using weakly labeled AudioSet data [3] for pretraining larger networks and 3) augmenting the DESED data [4] with strongly labeled AudioSet data [5] for finetuning of the networks. This thesis inquires about the characteristics of two 17th c. German devotional text types: the Protestant funeral sermon and the prose devotional writing. The work sets out to discover linguistic and visual patterns which appear at the textual surface but which allow conclusions about the functional, thematical, social, stylistic, and intertextual dimension of texts. Methodologically, the study pursues a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative analyses and qualitative assesment. Patterns which are tangible from the textual surface by automatic methods are broadly extracted and statistically analyzed. The study is based on the theoretical discourse of text type linguistics as well as on results from historical linguistics on the patterns of devotional text types. Analyses are performed comparing corpora of the two devotional text types with each other as well as with a reference corpus of various text types. This way, statistically founded results can be obtained on a broad corpus basis. The corpora are obtained from the German Text Archive. The thesis contributes to a text- and corpus-linguistic methodology to capture textual patterns of historical text types, their informative value about contextual factors and their cultural significance. With the focus on devotional literature of the 17th century the study sheds light on a genre which, in its time, aimed at strengthening and instructing Christians and the Christian community and with this, had a firm place in the lives of all social classes. Thus, its significance for German cultural and linguistic history can hardly be overestimated.","lang":"eng"}],"language":[{"iso":"ger"}],"main_file_link":[{"open_access":"1","url":"https://doi.org/10.17619/UNIPB/1-1989"}],"doi":"10.17619/UNIPB/1-1989","author":[{"last_name":"Haaf-Dumont","first_name":"Susanne","full_name":"Haaf-Dumont, Susanne"}],"year":"2022","title":"Die Musterhaftigkeit erbaulicher Textsorten des Deutschen: Eine quantitativ-qualitative Untersuchung der erbaulichen Prosaschrift und der evangelischen Leichenpredigt des 17. What these attempts have in common is the recognition that learning can be supported in a variety of ways because a learner can be engaged in different activities that foster learning. Up to now, three roles have been proposed when designing these activities for robots: as a teacher or tutor, a learning peer, or a novice. Current research proposes that deciding in favor of one role over another depends on the content or preferred pedagogical form. However, the design of activities changes not only the content of learning, but also the nature of a human–robot social relationship. This is particularly important in language acquisition, which has been recognized as a social endeavor. The following review aims to specify the differences in human–robot social relationships when children learn language through interacting with a social robot. After proposing categories for comparing these different relationships, we review established and more specific, innovative roles that a robot can play in language-learning scenarios. This follows Mead’s (1946) theoretical approach proposing that social roles are performed in interactive acts. These acts are crucial for learning, because not only can they shape the social environment of learning but also engage the learner to different degrees. We specify the degree of engagement by referring to Chi’s (2009) progression of learning activities that range from active, constructive, toward interactive with the latter fostering deeper learning. Taken together, this approach enables us to compare and evaluate different human–robot social relationships that arise when applying a robot in a particular social role.
","lang":"eng"}],"publisher":"Frontiers Media SA","_id":"34703","volume":9,"user_id":"43289","status":"public","citation":{"mla":"Rohlfing, Katharina, et al. “Social/Dialogical Roles of Social Robots in Supporting Children’s Learning of Language and Literacy—A Review and Analysis of Innovative Roles.” <i>Frontiers in Robotics and AI</i>, vol. 9, Frontiers Media SA, 2022, doi:<a href=\"https://doi.org/10.3389/frobt.2022.971749\">10.3389/frobt.2022.971749</a>.","ama":"Rohlfing K, Altvater-Mackensen N, Caruana N, et al.
