  text: "Zunehmend wird der Klimawandel prägender Faktor der Lebenswelten. Trotz innovativer
    technischer\r\nLösungen scheint es schwer, zu einer Lebensweise zu finden, welche
    menschliches Leben mit dem Erhalt\r\nfunktionierender Ökosysteme in Einklang bringt.
    Der Beitrag widmet sich der Frage, wie es dazu\r\nkommen konnte, dass Menschen
    die Welt so stark verändern, dass ihre eigene Zukunft bedroht ist und\r\nwie die
    Gegenwartsliteratur auf diese Frage reagiert hat. Zugespitzt zeigen sich in unterschiedlichen\r\nKontexten,
    in denen dieser Frage nachgegangen werden kann, zwei Antworten: 1. Durch einen
    narrativen\r\nTrick ‒ zumeist eine leichte Verschiebung der Thematik ‒ wird ein
    Ende ermöglicht, das Hoffnung auf\r\neine bessere Zukunft macht, 2. Der Mensch
    wird als Auslaufmodell gesehen, das entweder abgeschafft\r\nwerden sollte oder
    durch unverbesserliches Weitermachen den Planeten nachhaltig zerstören wird."

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Previous studies on Bayesian situations,
    in which probabilistic information is used to update the probability of a hypothesis,
    have often focused on the calculation of a posterior probability. We argue that
    for an in-depth understanding of Bayesian situations, it is (apart from mere calculation)
    also necessary to be able to evaluate the effect of <jats:italic>changes of parameters</jats:italic>
    in the Bayesian situation and the consequences, e.g., for the posterior probability.
    Thus, by understanding Bayes’ formula as a function, the concept of covariation
    is introduced as an extension of conventional Bayesian reasoning, and <jats:italic>covariational
    reasoning</jats:italic> in Bayesian situations is studied. Prospective teachers
    (<jats:italic>N</jats:italic>=173) for primary (<jats:italic>N</jats:italic>=112)
    and secondary (<jats:italic>N</jats:italic>=61) school from two German universities
    participated in the study and reasoned about covariation in Bayesian situations.
    In a mixed-methods approach, firstly, the elaborateness of prospective teachers’
    covariational reasoning is assessed by analysing the arguments qualitatively,
    using an adaption of the Structure of Observed Learning Outcome (SOLO) taxonomy.
    Secondly, the influence of possibly supportive variables on covariational reasoning
    is analysed quantitatively by checking whether (i) the changed parameter in the
    Bayesian situation (false-positive rate, true-positive rate or base rate), (ii)
    the visualisation depicting the Bayesian situation (double-tree vs. unit square)
    or (iii) the calculation (correct or incorrect) influences the SOLO level. The
    results show that among these three variables, only the changed parameter seems
    to influence the covariational reasoning. Implications are discussed.</jats:p>

  text: 'Seit ungefähr der Jahrtausendwende konsumieren auch Männer in westlichen
    Ländern wie Deutschland sowie in einigen asiatischen Ländern wie China zunehmend
    Körperpflegeartikel, nachdem Schönheitspflege und Maskulinität sich zuvor traditionell
    zu widersprechen schienen. Die Verpackungen von Männerkörperpflegeartikeln enthalten
    in der Regel Beschriftungen einerseits zur expliziten Kennzeichnung (for men,
    男性专用 [speziell für Männer] o. Ä.) und andererseits zur Werbung (ABSOLUTE MAN,
    3/4/5 IN 1, STARTKLAR, 有型 [cool und stylish], 均衡 [ausbalanciert] etc.). Mit derartigen
    Beschriftungen, die über die Artikelverpackungen massenhaft verbreitet werden,
    können Unternehmen die geteilte Vorstellung von Männern als soziale Kategorie
    bzw. Erwartungen an diese mitkonstituieren. Das bedeutet, durch Beschriftungen
    auf Verpackungen von Körperpflegeartikeln können Männern stereotypische Eigenschaften
    zugeschrieben werden. Dieser Beitrag arbeitet heraus, wie Männer durch Beschriftungen
    auf Körperpflegeartikeln in Deutschland und China tendenziell stereotypisiert
    werden. Dazu wird die Theorie des konzeptuellen Blendings (Fauconnier und Turner
    2002) für eine qualitative Auswertung eines Korpus aus Fotos von Männerkörperpflegeartikeln
    operationalisiert: Es werden Tendenzen ermittelt, mit welchen konzeptuellen Aspekten
    aus welchen Input Spaces, auf die die Beschriftungen im untersuchten Korpus verweisen,
    die soziale Kategorie ‚Mann‘ zu emergierenden Blends verschmolzen wird.'

    investigate the associations of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)
    score with subcutaneous (SAT) and visceral (VAT) adipose tissue volume and hepatic
    lipid content (HLC) in people with diabetes and to examine whether changes in
    the DASH diet were associated with changes in these outcomes.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Methods</jats:title><jats:p>In
    total, 335 participants with recent‐onset type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes
    (T2D) from the German Diabetes Study were included in the cross‐sectional analysis,
    and 111 participants in the analysis of changes during the 5‐year follow‐up. Associations
    between the DASH score and VAT, SAT and HLC and their changes were investigated
    using multivariable linear regression models by diabetes type. The proportion
    mediated by changes in potential mediators was determined using mediation analysis.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Results</jats:title><jats:p>A
    higher baseline DASH score was associated with lower HLC, especially in people
    with T2D (per 5 points: −1.5% [−2.7%; −0.3%]). Over 5 years, a 5‐point increase
    in the DASH score was associated with decreased VAT in people with T2D (−514 [−800;
    −228] cm<jats:sup>3</jats:sup>). Similar, but imprecise, associations were observed
    for VAT changes in people with T1D (−403 [−861; 55] cm<jats:sup>3</jats:sup>)
    and for HLC in people with T2D (−1.3% [−2.8%; 0.3%]). Body mass index and waist
    circumference changes explained 8%‐48% of the associations between DASH and VAT
    changes in both groups. In people with T2D, adipose tissue insulin resistance
    index (Adipo‐IR) changes explained 47% of the association between DASH and HLC
    changes.</jats:p></jats:sec><jats:sec><jats:title>Conclusions</jats:title><jats:p>A
    shift to a DASH‐like diet was associated with favourable VAT and HLC changes,
    which were partly explained by changes in anthropometric measures and Adipo‐IR.</jats:p></jats:sec>'

  text: Sodium batteries are an attractive alternative for future energy storage as
    they can be produced with abundant and low-cost materials. Nonetheless, sodium-ion
    batteries (SIBs) are often composed of flammable and volatile carbonate-based
    liquid electrolytes. Polymer electrolytes have attracted significant attention
    as safer alternatives. Among polymer electrolytes, single-ion conductive polymer
    electrolytes (SIPEs) are considered particularly interesting because they can
    suppress dendrite growth, enabling high-performance (quasi)-solid-state sodium–(metal)
    batteries. In this work, a self-standing, flexible, quasi-solid-state SIPE is
    investigated, which is composed of sodium 4-styrene sulfonyl (trifluoromethanesulfonyl)
    imide (NaSTFSI), pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-mercaptopropionate) (PETMP) and pentaerythritol
    tetraacrylate (PET4A) blended with poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)
    (PVDF-HFP). The SIPE membrane, including 50 wt% of molecular transporter, exhibits
    ionic conductivity of 1.4 × 10−5 S cm−1 and 1.3 × 10−4 S cm−1 at 20 °C and 90
    °C, respectively, thermal stability up to 280 °C, electrochemical stability window
    up to 4.5 V vs. Na/Na+, and Na plating/stripping reversibility in symmetric Na‖Na
    cells. The manufactured SIPE implemented in Prussian White (PW)‖Na cells enables
    the delivery of 147 mA h g−1 of PW at 15 mA g−1 with a Coulombic efficiency of
    over 99%, which is comparable with the PW‖Na cells using liquid carbonate electrolyte,
    confirming the suitability of the designed SIPE for sodium–(metal) batteries.

    298.15 to 359.15 K. These new data reveal structure–property relationships affected
    by the presence and the position of the ether moiety in the molecular structure
    of the ether-alcohols. Compared to octan-1-ol, the presence of the ether moiety
    causes an increase in intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions, resulting
    in higher densities. The increase in density is less pronounced for those ether-octanols
    that engage in intramolecular hydrogen bonding. As for the effects of the ether
    moiety on the dynamics, these are generally faster for the ether-alcohols compared
    to octan-1-ol, suggesting that hydrogen bonding between ether oxygen and hydroxy
    hydrogen is weaker compared to hydrogen bonding between two hydroxy groups. The
    activation energies obtained from an Arrhenius analysis are higher for translational
    motion than for momentum transfer for all alcohols. There are additional finer
    details across the ether alcohols for these activation barriers. These differences
    cancel out for the mathematical product of self-diffusion coefficient and viscosity
    (Dη). The effect of water impurities on the studied properties was also investigated
    and found to lead to small increases in densities for all alcohols. Viscosities
    decrease for octan-1-ol and 2-pentoxyethan-1-ol but increase for the other ether-alcohols

  text: In this contribution, we report on the TEMPO-mediated oxidation of pulp fibers
    used in the general context of papermaking and for the future design of tailor-made
    paper in advanced applications. We focus in our studies on properties of TEMPO-oxidized
    pulp fibers to explain the characteristics of the paper made thereof. 13C solid-state
    NMR analysis reveals that in particular amorphous regions of the fibers are being
    chemically oxidized, while at the same time the crystalline regions of the fibers
    are not significantly affected. Investigation of the fiber morphology before and
    after oxidation shows that the fiber length is not changed, yet the fibers do
    exhibit an increase in width if in contact with water, which is attributed to
    an increase in fiber swelling. In addition, fibrillation decreases due to the
    oxidative removal of loosely bound fines and fibrils, rendering the surface of
    the resulting oxidized fibers much smoother in comparison to the original fibers.
    Finally, we observe that both, dry and wet tensile strengths are also higher for
    paper made of oxidized fibers, most likely due to cross linkable aldehyde groups
    formed during oxidation (i.e. hemiacetal bond formation in the sheet during thermal
    drying). Our results of the oxidation of paper fibers thus offer a systematic
    study helpful for the design of tailor-made paper useful in several applications
    where a fiber-modification with fiber-immobilized functional motifs is crucial,
    such as for example in paper-based microfluidic sensors (µPADs) or lab-on a chip-devices.
