text: "Schulisches Wohlbefinden ist eine Grundbedingung gelingender Lernprozes-\r\nse
bei Kindern und Jugendlichen und ein wesentlicher Qualitätsindikator für\r\nschulische
Inklusion (vgl. Hascher, 2004; Kullmann et al., 2015). Der Bei-\r\ntrag präsentiert
Ergebnisse des qualitativen Teils einer Mixed-Methods-\r\nStudie zu Gelingensbedingungen
eines Wohlbefinden und Partizipation un-\r\nterstützenden Unterrichts und Schullebens
aus Sicht von Schüler_innen. Das\r\nForschungs- und Entwicklungsprojekt ‚WILS
– Wohlbefinden und Inklusion\r\nin der Laborschule‘ steht an der Laborschule Bielefeld
in der Tradition des\r\nLehrer-Forscher-Modells. Am Beispiel der sogenannten Versammlung
als\r\nunterrichtliches Gestaltungselement demokratischer Bildung soll in diesem\r\nBeitrag
das für die (inklusive) Schulentwicklung bedeutsame Potenzial der\r\nPraxis- und
Handlungsforschung im Lehrer-Forscher-Team sowie die Kom-\r\nplexität von Unterrichts-
und Schulentwicklung auf der Ebene der Einzel-\r\nschule illustriert und diskutiert
werden."

text: This article investigates learners’ perceptions on pronunciation learning
in study-abroad contexts from a qualitative perspective. While previous research
focused mainly on quantitative measurements of pronunciation gains with mixed
results, this study takes a more learner-centered approach and examines the impact
of socio-psychological factors on learning foreign pronunciation, which appears
to be a highly individual and at times conflict-prone process with which sojourners
are confronted. The study draws on the cases of five Canadian students who studied
abroad at German universities for one or two semesters. The data collection involved
a learning history questionnaire; semi-structured interviews pre-, mid-, and post-sojourn;
and bi-weekly e-journals. The data was analyzed and interpreted within the framework
of narrative analysis. The results show how sojourners’ beliefs about the importance
of pronunciation, community participation, identity-related challenges, and obstacles
to pronunciation learning influence and help explain individually different learning
behaviors and results.

text: This article focuses on the cultural dimension of sojourners’ learning during study abroad
periods. By examining the cases of two Canadian learners of German who studied abroad
in Germany for 1 year, we aim to amend discussions in existing research on what
kind of cultural learning may take place during study abroad and how cultural learning may be
conceptualized and operationalized. Our results suggest that assuming that study abroad
leads to a heightened intercultural sensitivity, to more cultural knowledge, and to an
increased intercultural competence, is problematic with respect to the conceptual
underpinnings of “cultural learning.” The notions of culture that underlie much of what
participants consider “cultural learning and experience” often remain essentialist. We
therefore propose to replace the interculturality paradigm by a transculturality
paradigm as it allows us to capture the complexities of study abroad and cultural learning more
accurately.

text: AbstractGiven that commercial complementary
food (CF) can contain high levels of added sugar, a high consumption may predispose
to a preference for sweet taste later in life. This study examined cross-sectional
associations between commercial CF consumption and added sugar intake in infancy
as well as its prospective relation to added sugar intake in pre-school and primary-school
age children. In all, 288 children of the Dortmund Nutritional and Anthropometric
Longitudinally Designed Study with 3-d weighed dietary records at 0·5 and 0·75
(infancy), 3 and 4 (pre-school age) and 6 and 7 years of age (primary-school age)
were included in this analysis. Individual commercial CF consumption as percentage
of total commercial CF (%cCF) was averaged at 0·5 and 0·75 years. Individual total
added sugar intake (g/d, energy percentage/d) was averaged for all three age groups.
Multivariable logistic and linear regression models were used to analyse associations
between %cCF and added sugar intake. In infancy, a higher %cCF was associated
with odds for high added sugar intake from CF and for high total added sugar intake
(>75th percentile, P<0·033). Prospectively, a
higher %cCF was related to higher added sugar intake in both pre-school (P<0·041)
and primary-school age children (P<0·039), although
these associations were attenuated in models adjusting for added sugar intake
in infancy. A higher %cCF in infancy may predispose to higher added sugar intake
in later childhood by virtue of its added sugar content. Therefore, offering home-made
CF or carefully chosen commercial CF without added sugar might be one strategy
to reduce sugar intake in infancy and later on.

text: 'Efficiently parallelizable parameterized problems have been classified as
being either in the class FPP (fixed-parameter parallelizable) or the class PNC
(parameterized analog of NC), which contains FPP as a subclass. In this paper,
we propose a more restrictive class of parallelizable parameterized problems called
fixed-parameter parallel-tractable (FPPT). For a problem to be in FPPT, it should
possess an efficient parallel algorithm not only from a theoretical standpoint
but in practice as well. The primary distinction between FPPT and FPP is the parallel
processor utilization, which is bounded by a polynomial function in the case of
FPPT. We initiate the study of FPPT with the well-known k-vertex cover problem.
In particular, we present a parallel algorithm that outperforms the best known
parallel algorithm for this problem: using O(m) instead of O(n2) parallel processors,
the running time improves from 4logn+O(kk) to O(k⋅log3n), where m is the number
of edges, n is the number of vertices of the input graph, and k is an upper bound
of the size of the sought vertex cover. We also note that a few P-complete problems
fall into FPPT including the monotone circuit value problem (MCV) when the underlying
graphs are bounded by a constant Euler genus.'
