text: Catalysis plays a central role in many fields of life, e.g., in biochemical
processes, to reduce energy costs and resources in chemical industry and to decrease
or even avoid environmental pollution and in energy management. Porous alumina
(Al2O3) is an essential material in various applications, especially as a support
material for catalysts. It is often prepared by nanocasting using porous carbon
materials that serve as rigid structure matrices. In this work, an alternative
way to synthesize mesoporous Al2O3 by using hydrogels as porogenic material is
presented. Hydrogels can easily be patterned by light and used to imprint their
structure onto alumina opening a new approach to fabricate patterned Al2O3. The
hydrogels used in this work are based on poly(dimethylacrylamide) and were photo-chemically
cross-linked. Followed by a nanocasting process, mesoporous alumina samples were
synthesized and characterized by N2 physisorption and X-ray diffraction. The cross-linker
amount in the polymer network was varied and the influence on the properties of
    the Al2O3 is analyzed.

text: Due to their unique properties, ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) materials
prepared by nanocasting have raised great attention in recent years. Their synthesis
usually comprises multiple cycles of impregnating a porous structure matrix with
an aqueous solution of a suitable precursor, such as sucrose or other, often hazardous,
compound. We present a more straightforward variation of this method by using
fructose as the precursor compound. By using a solvent-free melt of the precursor,
the impregnation requires only a single step. After carbonization by thermal decomposition
and removal of the mesoporous silica structure matrix (SBA-15), ordered mesoporous
carbon with one (CMK-3) or two (CMK-5) pore modes in two-dimensional, hexagonal
    symmetry (p6mm) is obtained.

text: Suppose Q is a definite quadratic form on a vector space V over some totally
real field K ≠ Q. Then the maximal integral Zₖ-lattices in (V,Q) are locally isometric
everywhere and hence form a single genus. We enumerate all orthogonal spaces (V,Q)
of dimension at least 3, where the corresponding genus of maximal integral lattices
consists of a single isometry class. It turns out, there are 471 such genera.
Moreover, the dimension of V and the degree of K are bounded by 6 and 5 respectively.
This classification also yields all maximal quaternion orders of type number one.

text: Due to the continuously shrinking device structures and increasing densities
of FPGAs, thermal aspects have become the new focus for many research projects
over the last years. Most researchers rely on temperature simulations to evaluate
their novel thermal management techniques. However, these temperature simulations
require a high computational effort if a detailed thermal model is used and their
accuracies are often unclear. In contrast to simulations, the use of synthetic
heat sources allows for experimental evaluation of temperature management methods.
In this paper we investigate the creation of significant rises in temperature
on modern FPGAs to enable future evaluation of thermal management techniques based
on experiments. To that end, we have developed seven different heat-generating
cores that use different subsets of FPGA resources. Our experimental results show
that, according to external temperature probes connected to the FPGA’s heat sink,
we can increase the temperature by an average of 81 !C. This corresponds to an
average increase of 156.3 !C as measured by the built-in thermal diodes of our
Virtex-5 FPGAs in less than 30 min by only utilizing about 21 percent of the slices.

abstract:

text: 'Obwohl die Lehrerbildung in den letzten Jahren vermehrt im Fokus von Untersuchungen
stand, ist über die Anforderungen im Lehramtsstudium wenig bekannt. Diese werden
    hier anhand der Methodik zur Ermittlung von Anforderungen an Studierende (MEVAS;
Hell, Ptok & Schuler, 2007) analysiert und in Zusammenhang mit 5 Studienerfolgskriterien
gesetzt. An der Online-Befragung, in der verschiedene Anforderungen hinsichtlich
ihres Erfüllungsgrads eingeschätzt wurden, nahmen 686 Lehramtsstudierende einer
mittelgroßen Universität in Nordrhein-Westfalen teil.

text: "This article aims to reconceptualize pronunciation teaching and learning
according to the tenets of the 2007 MLA Report and its call for translingual/transcultural
competence. The critical discussion of current teaching and research practices
shows that the realm of pronunciation has benefitted little from debates on intercultural
language learning. In order to link the teaching of pronunciation with learner
needs in intercultural encounters, this article develops the concept of pronunciation‐as‐language.
The theoretical exploration of this concept is supported by a narrative analysis
of study-abroad learners’ accounts, contrasting learners’ perceptions of teaching
practices with the complex role pronunciation plays in second language‐mediated
interactions. The results underline the importance of pedagogical approaches that
encourage the critical reflection on and creative use of pronunciation beyond
    structural elements and native‐speaker\r\nnorms."

text: The consideration of the robustness is indispensable to ensure a reliable
and reproducible manufacturing of functionally graded components. In order to
establish a common understanding as basis for the holistic robustness consideration
within the Collaborative Transregional Research Centre 30 (CRC Transregio 30),
a joint development of methods for analysing and optimising the robustness is
necessary. The term "robustness", however, has been used differently in the various
disciplines of the CRC Transregio 30. Thus, this contribution proposes a common
definition of robustness for the whole research centre. In addition, a procedure
model for considering the robustness with a collection of methods, that can be
combined or adapted by the involved disciplines, is presented. The validation
of the recommended procedure model has been conducted by a compression moulding
    process.

text: "Functional gradation denotes the systematic and reproducible microstructure
adjustment of a single material component for the customisation of the macroscopic
properties (e.g. hardness or ductility). This customisation is tailored with respect
to the later intended application of the component. The improved material utilisation
enables light weight design and simplifies the recycling by using single material
components. Hence, it provides a resource-conserving alternative for modern composite
materials and offers an innovative approach for customisable smart products of
the future. Manufacturing functionally graded components requires complex thermo-mechanically
coupled process chains that increase the effort for the holistic design. To realise
the full potential offered by functional gradation, the available planning and
optimisation methods as well as the surrogate models developed during the first
research period of the Collaborative Transregional Research Centre (CRC Transregio
    30) are significantly enhanced. Furthermore, all the methods and surrogate models
as well as the process knowledge obtained by laboratory experiments are consolidated
in a comprehensive computer-aided framework to provide a continuous support for
the engineer during the planning process. This contribution proposes the methodical
foundations within the framework along the planning process: Component description,
synthesis of suitable manufacturing process chains, and optimisation of the process
chain parameters as well as the specification of the production system. The methods
are validated based on an exemplary planning task within the CRC Transregio 30.\r\n"

text: "In this contribution, we present a framework for the computer-aided planning
and optimisation of manufacturing process chains for functional graded components.
The framework is divided into three modules – the “Component Description”, the
“Expert System” for the synthetisation of several manufacturing process chains
and the “Modelling and Process Chain Optimisation”. The Component Description
module enhances a standard computer-aided design (CAD) model by a voxel-based
representation of the intended graded properties. The Expert System synthesises
manufacturing process steps stored in the knowledge base to generate alternative
process chains. All these process chains are capable of producing components according
to the enhanced CAD model. They consist of a sequence of heating-, cooling-, and
forming manufacturing processes. The interdependencies between the component and
the applied manufacturing processes as well as between the processes themselves
need to be considered. For that purpose the Expert System utilises an ontology.
The ontology represents all the interdependencies in a structured way and connects
the information of the knowledge base via relations. The third module performs
the evaluation of the generated manufacturing process chains. To accomplish this,
the parameters of each process step are optimised according to the component specification,
whereby the result of the best parameterization is used as a representative value.
Finally the process chain which is capable of producing a functional graded component
in an optimal way regarding to the property distributions of the component description
is presented by means of a dedicated specification technique.\r\nIn this contribution,
we present a framework for the computer-aided planning and optimisation of manufacturing
process chains for functional graded components. The framework is divided into
three modules – the “Component Description”, the “Expert System” for the synthetisation
of several manufacturing process chains and the “Modelling and Process Chain Optimisation”.
The Component Description module enhances a standard computer-aided design (CAD)
model by a voxel-based representation of the intended graded properties. The Expert
System synthesises manufacturing process steps stored in the knowledge base to
generate alternative process chains. All these process chains are capable of producing
components according to the enhanced CAD model. They consist of a sequence of
heating-, cooling-, and forming manufacturing processes. The interdependencies
between the component and the applied manufacturing processes as well as between
the processes themselves need to be considered. For that purpose the Expert System
utilises an ontology. The ontology represents all the interdependencies in a structured
way and connects the information of the knowledge base via relations. The third
module performs the evaluation of the generated manufacturing process chains.
To accomplish this, the parameters of each process step are optimised according
to the component specification, whereby the result of the best parameterization
is used as a representative value. Finally the process chain which is capable
of producing a functional graded component in an optimal way regarding to the
property distributions of the component description is presented by means of a
    dedicated specification technique.\r\n"

  text:
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with
insulin resistance and obesity. Hence, carbohydrate quality could be of relevance
to the risk of NAFLD, but prospective data are lacking. The aim of the present
study was to investigate longitudinal associations between carbohydrate quality
(including dietary glycaemic index (GI) and intakes of sugar, starch and fibre)
and markers of liver function in an older Australian population. The analysis
was based on 866 participants ( ≥ 49 years) of the Blue Mountains Eye Study with
fasting blood specimens and dietary intake data at baseline and 5-year follow-up.
Multi-level mixed regression analysis was used to relate dietary GI and sugar,
starch and fibre intake to the liver enzymes alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and
γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT), as well as fasting TAG and HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C).
After adjustment for potential confounding factors, a lower fibre intake was cross-sectionally
related to higher GGT (P= 0·02) and fasting TAG (P= 0·002)
levels, with fruit fibre being the most relevant fibre source (P= 0·095
for GGT; P= 0·003 for TAG). A higher dietary GI was
associated with lower HDL-C (P= 0·046). Changes in
carbohydrate quality during 5 years were not related to changes in ALT, GGT, TAG
or HDL-C (P≥ 0·08). In conclusion, the absence of longitudinal
associations between carbohydrate quality and liver enzymes and serum lipids in
this older population does not support a major role of carbohydrate nutrition
in liver function among the elderly.
