The present work explores the trade-off between query time\r\nand preprocessing space for these quantities in 2D: exactly, in the approximate\r\ndeterministic, and in the probabilistic sense. We deduce the EXISTENCE of an\r\nO(m^2/n^2) space data structure for S that, given p and time O(log n), allows\r\nto approximate the ratio of occluded segments up to arbitrary constant absolute\r\nerror; here m denotes the size of the Visibility Graph--which may be quadratic,\r\nbut typically is just linear in the size n of the scene S. On the other hand,\r\nwe present a data structure CONSTRUCTIBLE in O(n*log(n)+m^2*polylog(n)/k)\r\npreprocessing time and space with similar approximation properties and query\r\ntime O(k*polylog n), where k<n is an arbitrary parameter. It is shown that by implantation of keV He ions through the nanometric openings of NSL masks regular arrays of hillocks and rings can be created on silicon surfaces. The shape and size of these surface features can be easily controlled by adjusting the ion dose and energy as well as the mask size. Feature heights of more than 100 nm can be obtained, while feature distances are typically 1.15 or 2 (hillock or ring) nanosphere radii, which are chosen to be between 100 and 500 nm in this study. Atomic force and scanning electron microscopy measurements of the surface morphology are supplemented by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy, revealing the inner structure of hillocks to consist of a central cavity surrounded by a hierarchical arrangement of smaller voids. Frequently re-interpreted as spin-forbidden lines, arising from Nc,k pairs and triads or resulting from hopping conductivity, only recently the theoretical calculation of the corresponding g-tensors lead to a tentative model of distant NC donor pairs on inequivalent lattice sites which are coupled to S = 1 assuming a fine-structure splitting too small to be observed in the EPR and ESE experiments. In this work, we present ESE nutation measurements confirming S = 1 for the Nx center. Adults’ Relationships with Significant Others Across the Lifespan","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"In order to investigate the significance of\r\nadults’ relationship to their parents, this relationship is\r\ncompared to relationships with siblings, friends, partners,\r\nand children. German adults (N = 902) between the ages\r\nof 20 and 86 completed the Network of Relationships\r\nInventory (Furman and Buhrmester 1992). Participants felt\r\nmost supported by their partners, followed by their children, mothers, friends, fathers, and siblings. Conflicts were\r\nmore frequently found within the family (especially with\r\nthe partner, followed by children, mothers, fathers, and\r\nsiblings) than with friends. Except for partner relationships,\r\nboth conflict and support decreased with age. Concerning\r\nrelative power within their relationships, partners, mothers,\r\nand siblings are seen as equals, friends and especially\r\nfathers are perceived as more powerful, and children as\r\nless, yet increasingly powerful. In humans an additional delta-subunit (delta-hENaC) exists but little is known about its function. Using the Xenopus laevis oocyte expression system, we compared the functional properties of alphabetagamma- and deltabetagamma-hENaC and investigated whether deltabetagamma-hENaC can be proteolytically activated. The amiloride-sensitive ENaC whole-cell current (DeltaI(ami)) was about 11-fold larger in oocytes expressing deltabetagamma-hENaC than in oocytes expressing alphabetagamma-hENaC. The 2-fold larger single-channel Na(+) conductance of deltabetagamma-hENaC cannot explain this difference. Using a chemiluminescence assay, we demonstrated that an increased channel surface expression is also not the cause. Thus, overall channel activity of deltabetagamma-hENaC must be higher than that of alphabetagamma-hENaC. Experiments exploiting the properties of the known betaS520C mutant ENaC confirmed this conclusion. Moreover, chymotrypsin had a reduced stimulatory effect on deltabetagamma-hENaC whole-cell currents compared with its effect on alphabetagamma-hENaC whole-cell currents (2-fold versus 5-fold). This suggests that the cell surface pool of so-called near-silent channels that can be proteolytically activated is smaller for deltabetagamma-hENaC than for alphabetagamma-hENaC. Proteolytic activation of deltabetagamma-hENaC was associated with the appearance of a delta-hENaC cleavage product at the cell surface. Finally, we demonstrated that a short inhibitory 13-mer peptide corresponding to a region of the extracellular loop of human alpha-ENaC inhibited DeltaI(ami) in oocytes expressing alphabetagamma-hENaC but not in those expressing deltabetagamma-hENaC.
