text:
Abstract
Controlling the surface orientation
of DNA origami nanostructures (DON) is crucial for applications in nanotechnology
and materials science. While previous work utilized various DON modifications,
simple methods for controlling their landing orientation remain scarce. Here,
we demonstrate a straightforward approach to control the adsorption orientation
of chiral double‐L (CDL) DON on mica by tuning magnesium ion (Mg2⁺)
concentration and exploiting global shape distortions. Using atomic force microscopy
(AFM), we analyzed the resulting distribution of the mirror‐image orientations,
referred to as S and Z orientations, at both buffer/mica and air/mica interfaces
and identified conditions resulting in homogenous CDL orientation of 100% S. These
results demonstrate how DON conformation and ionic environments influence DON
orientation, offering insights for precise nanostructure deposition.

text: 'Unintended consequences in Information Systems (IS) research are typically
examined only after they have surfaced in practice, often treated as isolated
instances rather than being systematically identified and understood. This reactive
stance constrains our ability to anticipate risks, recognize emerging opportunities,
and build cumulative insights across studies. To assess the current state of IS
research on unintended consequences, we conducted a scoping review of literature
in the Association for Information Systems'' Senior Scholars'' Basket of Journals.
Our review highlights significant gaps in how unintended consequences are defined,
theorized, and systematically compared. To address these gaps, we propose three
foundational considerations: (1) conceptual clarity, to refine definitions and
delineate boundaries; (2) relational configurations, to analyze the interplay
between actors, technologies, and contexts; and (3) temporal configurations, to
capture the evolving nature of consequences over time. Building on these dimensions,
we introduce a set of guiding questions designed to provide shared analytical
vocabulary rather than a prescriptive framework. These questions enable researchers
to more systematically identify, categorize, and compare unintended consequences
across contexts, thereby fostering theoretical precision, facilitating cross-contextual
learning, and supporting a more anticipatory and comprehensive understanding of
the phenomenon.'

microscopy is an emerging technique based on photoelectron spectroscopy for characterizing
ultrafast electron dynamics and the out-of-equilibrium electronic structure of
materials in the entire Brillouin zone with high efficiency. In this article,
we introduce a setup for time-resolved momentum microscopy based on an energy-filtered
momentum microscope coupled to a custom-made high-harmonic generation photon source
driven by a multi-100 kHz commercial Yb-ultrafast laser that delivers fs pulses
in the extreme ultraviolet range. The laser setup includes a nonlinear pulse compression
stage employing spectral broadening in a Herriott-type bulk-based multi-pass cell.
This element allows flexible tuning of the driving pulse duration, providing a
versatile time-resolved momentum microscopy setup featuring two operational modes
designed to enhance either the energy or time resolution. We show the capabilities
of the system by tracing ultrafast electron dynamics in the conduction band valleys
of a bulk crystal of the 2D semiconductor WS2. Using uncompressed
driving laser pulses, we demonstrate an energy resolution better than (107 ± 2)

text: In the context of high-performance computing (HPC) for distributed workloads,
individual field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) need efficient ways to exchange
data, which requires network infrastructure and software abstractions. Dedicated
multi-FPGA clusters provide inter-FPGA networks for direct device to device communication.
The oneAPI high-level synthesis toolchain offers I/O pipes to allow user kernels
to interact with the networking ports of the FPGA board. In this work, we evaluate
using oneAPI I/O pipes for direct FPGA-to-FPGA communication by scaling a SYCL
implementation of a Jacobi solver on up to 25 FPGAs in the Noctua 2 cluster. We
see good results in weak and strong scaling experiments.

text:
Amidines are a ubiquitous class of bioactive compounds found in a
wide variety of natural products; thus, efficient strategies for their preparation
are in great demand. Herein, a novel protocol is reported for the synthesis of
amidines based on PIII/PVO redox catalysis.
This two‐step, one‐pot approach involves the activation of amides via PIII/PVO
catalyzed in situ formation of imidoyl chloride intermediates which are directly
converted upon reaction with amines into the corresponding amidines. Instead of
traditionally used toxic and corrosive chloride sources, hexachloroacetone (HCA)
is successfully employed as a halide source. The reaction proceeds with low catalyst
loading (2 mol%) in BuOAc as the solvent. Under the optimized conditions, 20 amidines
are prepared in yields up to 99%. A feasible mechanism is proposed based on experimental
results. The synthetic potential of this method is evaluated in the preparation
of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) Erlotinib.

text: 'Academic publishing is both an indication of scientific contribution and
a currency for career advancement. This dual role gives rise to a normative scientific
conflict: Does the structural incentive to publish constitute a conflict of interest
(COI) that ought to be disclosed? In this paper, we address this conflict through
an action research approach, engaging collaboratively and reflexively to answer
four related questions: (1) What evidence suggests that researchers face a (financial)
COI when publishing? (2) What are the benefits and drawbacks of explicitly acknowledging
that publications function as academic currency? (3) How should such conflicts
be disclosed? (4) Do mechanisms such as pre-registration and registered reports
resolve these concerns? This paper contends that while researchers are clearly
incentivised to publish, this interest need not necessarily constitute a conflict
or be explicitly disclosed. Treating this issue as a normative scientific conflict
does reveal the need for a shift in how researchers understand and navigate the
subjective, self-interested dimensions of their work. We propose four key responses:
(1) integrating discussions of COIs and biases more extensively into undergraduate
science education, (2) promoting greater reflexivity in everyday research practice
(e.g., through reflexivity journals, peer-led audit groups, and the reintegration
of discussions on the historicity and cultural nature of research into scientific
publications), (3) critically investigating institutional incentives and journal
policies, and (4) proactively adopting methodological safeguards such as pre-registration.
By addressing this conflict through action research, we demonstrate how normative
tensions in science can be made productive — supporting both critical reflection
and structural improvement.'

text: "With the rise of multimodal AI tools, such as DALL-E, Midjourney, or Stable\r\nDiffusion,
it has never been easier and faster to produce compelling fashion\r\nimages. While
the proliferation of AI-generated fashion images can be\r\nseen as the ultimate
triumph of the fashion image over both fashion text\r\nand fashionable garments,
this paper critically examines how these images\r\nare produced, what exactly
they show, and ultimately, how this impacts our\r\nunderstanding of fashion. Building
on current research on multimodal AI,\r\nspecifically text-to-image models, I
argue that AI-generated fashion images\r\nare produced through textual means,
that is, through “operative ekphrasis”\r\n(Bajohr 2024: 83). This means that the
generation of fashion images created\r\nvia multimodal AI is based on textual
prompts that extract statistically\r\nprobable images from a latent space, which,
in turn, is the result of previously\r\nindexed and labeled image-text pairs.
Because the indexing of images\r\nrequires a reduction of complexity, images generated
through multimodal\r\nAI are often generic. In the case of fashion images, this
is reflected in the lack\r\nof texture and the reproduction of fashion photography’s
conventions. As\r\nfashion photography is not necessarily a representation of
‘the world’ or even\r\nfashionable garments, it resembles AI-generated images
more than other photographic\r\ngenres. AI-generated fashion images are then not
images of fashionable\r\ngarments, but images about fashion images—a statistically
probable permutation\r\nof fashion photographs from the past (cf. Meyer 2023:
108). As such,\r\nAI-generated fashion images are not only the product of a mediated
collective\r\nimaginary but also feed back into it. The view on fashion shaped
by AI-generated\r\nfashion images is then based on reduction and stylized normativity."

text:
Abstract
Lignin, a widely available and renewable
organic polymer, has several desirable properties and applications. However, as
a by‐product of pulp and paper industry, it is mainly burned for energy. Limited
understanding of the complex and heterogeneous structure and a shortage of tailored
analysis methods hinder its utilization in higher value applications. This study
describes and compares the use of two different static light scattering methods,
laser diffraction and small‐angle light scattering (SALS), for studying lignin
particle size in suspension. The results from laser diffraction showed that the
selected particle concentration and absorption coefficient affect the measured
sizes especially for particles <1 µm in diameter. For irregularly shaped particles
with broad size distributions, sampling is the most important parameter affecting
the results. SALS proved an efficient method for obtaining information on particle
aggregation by providing primary particle sizes as well as aggregate sizes. Characterization
of samples with spherical particles and narrow size distributions is straightforward
with both laser diffraction and SALS, whereas the interpretation of results for
more heterogeneous samples is less obvious. Static light scattering methods could
make lignin particle size analysis more rapid and automated, thus enhancing lignin
valorization, but should be applied carefully to avoid systematic errors.
