text: 'In this contribution, conditional Bayesian estimation employing a phase-sensitive
observation model for noise robust speech recognition will be studied. After a
review of speech recognition under the presence of corrupted features, termed
uncertainty decoding, the estimation of the posterior distribution of the uncorrupted
(clean) feature vector will be shown to be a key element of noise robust speech
recognition. The estimation process will be based on three major components: an
a priori model of the unobservable data, an observation model relating the unobservable
data to the corrupted observation and an inference algorithm, finally allowing
for a computationally tractable solution. Special stress will be laid on a detailed
derivation of the phase-sensitive observation model and the required moments of
the phase factor distribution. Thereby, it will not only be proven analytically
that the phase factor distribution is non-Gaussian but also that all central moments
can (approximately) be computed solely based on the used mel filter bank, finally
rendering the moments independent of noise type and signal-to-noise ratio. The
phase-sensitive observation model will then be incorporated into a model-based
feature enhancement scheme and recognition experiments will be carried out on
the Aurora~2 and Aurora~4 databases. The importance of incorporating phase factor
information into the enhancement scheme is pointed out by all recognition results.
Application of the proposed scheme under the derived uncertainty decoding framework
further leads to significant improvements in both recognition tasks, eventually
reaching the performance achieved with the ETSI advanced front-end.'

text: In this work, a splitting and weighting scheme that allows for splitting a
Gaussian density into a Gaussian mixture density (GMM) is extended to allow the
mixture components to be arranged along arbitrary directions. The parameters of
the Gaussian mixture are chosen such that the GMM and the original Gaussian still
exhibit equal central moments up to an order of four. The resulting mixtures{\rq}
covariances will have eigenvalues that are smaller than those of the covariance
of the original distribution, which is a desirable property in the context of
non-linear state estimation, since the underlying assumptions of the extended
K ALMAN filter are better justified in this case. Application to speech feature
enhancement in the context of noise-robust automatic speech recognition reveals
the beneficial properties of the proposed approach in terms of a reduced word
error rate on the Aurora 2 recognition task.

text: "Given a set of n mobile robots in the d-dimensional Euclidean space, the
goal is to let them converge to a single not predefined point. The challenge is
that the robots are limited in their capabilities. Robots can, upon activation,
compute the positions of all other robots using an individual affine coordinate
system. The robots are indistinguishable, oblivious and may have different affine
coordinate systems. A very general discrete time model assumes that robots are
activated in arbitrary order. Further, the computation of a new target point may
happen much earlier than the movement, so that the movement is based on outdated
information about other robot's positions. Time is measured as the number of rounds,
where a round ends as soon as each robot has moved at least once. In [Cohen, Peleg:
Convergence properties of gravitational algorithms in asynchronous robot systems],
the Center of Gravity is considered as target function, convergence was proven,
and the number of rounds needed for halving the diameter of the convex hull of
the robot's positions was shown to be O(n^2) and Omega(n). We present an easy-to-check
property of target functions that guarantee convergence and yields upper time
bounds. This property intuitively says that when a robot computes a new target
point, this point is significantly within the current axes aligned minimal box
containing all robots. This property holds, e.g., for the above-mentioned target
function, and improves the above O(n^2) to an asymptotically optimal O(n) upper
bound. Our technique also yields a constant time bound for a target function that
requires all robots having identical coordinate axes.\r\n"

text: There has been a lot of progress in finding measurable quantities of high
in- formation content for the inverse determination of piezoelectric material
properties. Since some material parameters (mainly \textgreek{e}S 11, e15and cE
44) do not or only marginally influence the electrical impedance over frequency,
it is not sufficient to look only at the electri- cal impedance of discoidal piezoceramics
[1]. Moreover, the parameter sensitivities vary with respect to the diameter--thickness
ratio of the disc and the design of an ultrasonic transducer's piezoceramic has
to match other requirements than those of a good material characterization [2,
3]. That is why it is still desirable to find model based approaches for parameter
identification that either keep the technical effort low (e.g., only an impedance
measurement) or increase speed of the inversion procedure. In this contribution
we answer the question if an additional analytical approximation of cE 44, strictly
following the ideas of Theocaris [4], in conjunction with a single measured elec-
trical impedance will be sufficient for an accurate simulation of both, electrical
impedance and surface normal velocity of a piezoceramic disc. Thereby, the remaining
parameters are identified by means of the Inverse Method. Furthermore, we use
the parameter ap- proximation as an initial guess and limiting boundary to speed
up the inverse algorithm if both, electrical impedance and surface normal velocity
are taken into account within the optimization procedure.

The arrangement has a first deflecting
unit (3) for deflecting a measuring beam of a vibrometer (2) in spatial directions
(4-6, 4-6). Second and third deflecting units (7, 8) deflect the beam arriving
from one of the spatial directions such that a measuring point (9) of an object
(1) is detectable with the beam from the spatial direction or the spatial directions.
The first deflecting unit is designed as a scanning unit, where the measuring
point is detected by the scanning unit. A measuring instrument measures focus
quality and is connected to actuators for adjustment of the focus quality. An
independent claim is also included for a method for multidimensional measurement
of oscillations of an object.

Na+/kg body wt per day) NaCl diet. As expected, 24-h excretion
of urinary calcium was significantly greater in the high-NaCl-intake HDBR phase
than in the low-NaCl-intake HDBR phase ( P < 0.001). High NaCl intake caused
a 43–50% greater excretion of the bone resorption markers COOH- (CTX) and NH2-
(NTX) terminal telopeptide of type I collagen in HDBR than low NaCl in HDBR (CTX/NTX:
P < 0.001). Serum concentrations of the bone formation markers bone-specific
alkaline phosphatase (bAP) and NH2-terminal propeptide of
type I procollagen (PINP) were identical in both NaCl intake phases. High NaCl
intake led to a more negative nitrogen balance in HDBR ( P < 0.001). Changes
were accompanied by increased serum chloride concentration ( P = 0.008), reduced
blood bicarbonate ( P = 0.017), and base excess ( P = 0.009) whereas net acid
excretion was lower during high than during low NaCl intake in immobilization
( P < 0.001). High NaCl intake during immobilization exacerbates disuse-induced
bone and muscle loss by causing further protein wasting and an increase in bone
resorption. Changes in the acid-base status, mainly caused by disturbances in
electrolyte metabolism, seem to determine NaCl-induced degradation processes.
'
