text:
Abstract
Mathematics Learning Support Centres
are becoming more and more common in higher education both internationally and
in Germany. Whereas it is clear that their quality largely depends on a functioning
interaction in consultations, little is known about how such consultations proceed
in detail. On the basis of models from the literature and recorded support sessions
(N = 36), we constructed a process model that divides consultations into four
ideal–typical phases. In the individual consultations, forward or backward leaps
occur, but overall the model seems to describe the data well. A high intercoder
reliability shows that it can be applied consistently on real data by different
researchers. An analysis of the consultations between students and tutors shows
that both mainly work on past attempts or thoughts of the students to solve the
exercise or problems and on concrete strategies to solve a problem within the
session. In contrast, very little time is dedicated to summarizing and reflecting
the solution. The data allows for a more in-depth discussion of what constitutes
quality in advising processes and how it might be further explored. Practically,
the model may structure support sessions and help in focussing on different goals
in different phases.

text: "Purpose\r\nThe purpose of this paper is to identify strategic options and
challenges that arise when an industrial firm moves from providing smart service
toward providing a platform.\r\n\r\nDesign/methodology/approach\r\nThis conceptual
study takes on a multidisciplinary research perspective that integrates concepts,
theories and insights from service management and marketing, information systems
and platform economics.\r\n\r\nFindings\r\nThe paper outlines three platform types
– smart data platform, smart product platform and matching platform – as strategic
options for firms that wish to evolve from smart service providers to platform
providers.\r\n\r\nResearch limitations/implications\r\nInvestigating smart service
platforms calls for launching interdisciplinary research initiatives. Promising
research avenues are outlined to span boundaries that separate different research
disciplines today.\r\n\r\nPractical implications\r\nManaging a successful transition
from providing smart service toward providing a platform requires making significant
investments in IT, platform-related capabilities and skills, as well as implement
new approaches toward relationship management and brand-building.\r\n\r\nOriginality/value\r\nThe
findings described in this paper are valuable to researchers in multiple disciplines
seeking to develop and to justify theory related to platforms in industrial scenarios."

text:
To analyze the influence of suspension kinematics on tire wear, detailed
simulation models are required. In this study, a non-linear, flexible multibody
model of a rear axle system is built up in the simulation software MSC Adams/View.
The physical model comprises the suspension kinematics, compliance, and dynamics
as well as the non-linear behavior of the tire using the FTire model. FTire is
chosen because it has a separate tire tread model to compute the contact pressure
and friction force distribution in the tire contact patch. To build up the simulation
model, a large amount of data is needed. Bushings, spring, and damper characteristics
are modeled based on measurements. For the structural components (e.g., control
arms), reverse engineering techniques are used. The components are 3D-scanned,
reworked, and included as a modal reduced finite element (FE)-model using component
mode synthesis by Craig–Bampton. Finally, the suspension model is validated by
comparing the simulated kinematic and compliance characteristics to experimental
results. To investigate the interaction of suspension kinematics and tire wear,
straight line driving events, such as acceleration, driving with constant velocity,
and deceleration, are simulated with different setups of wheel suspension kinematics.
The influence of the setups on the resulting friction work between tire and road
is examined, and an exemplarily calculation of tire wear based on a validated
FTire tire model is carried out. The results demonstrate, on the one hand, that
the chosen concept of elasto-kinematic axle leads to a relatively good match with
experimental results and, on the other hand, that there are significant possibilities
to reduce tire wear by adjusting the suspension kinematics.

Background/objectives
Adolescence is a critical period for both the development of overweight and the transition toward a later chronotype, often accompanied by an increase in social jetlag. This study assessed whether changes in chronotype and social jetlag, are linked to changes in body composition during adolescence.

Subjects/methods
We used data from the DONALD open cohort study, collected between 2014 and 2019, from 213 adolescents (9–17 years at baseline, 45% females) having at least two measures of chronotype and anthropometry (N = 572). Chronotype was assessed with the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire and defined as: midpoint of sleep corrected for sleep-debt (MSFsc) accumulated over the week (later MSFsc represents later chronotype). Social jetlag (SJL) defines the difference between midpoint of sleep during week and weekend. Calculations for Fat Free Mass Index (FFMI [kg/m2)]) and Fat Mass Index (FMI) [kg/m2)]) were based on body fat percentage, weight, and height. To analyze the associations, we used linear mixed-effect regression models. Finally, the total cohort was split into three biologically relevant age groups (cut-off set at <12 years, ≥12 to ≤15 years and >15 years).

Results
Median follow-up was 2.1 years. Overall, change toward a later chronotype was significantly related with an increase in FMI (ß: 0.05, 95% CI: 0.01–0.08). A 1 h increase in social jetlag predicted an increase in BMI-SDS of 0.08 SDS units (95% CI: 0.01–0.14) and in FMI of 0.04 kg/m2 (95% CI: 0.003–0.08). Associations were stronger for the age group ≥12 to ≤15 years (p for interaction: <0.001). No relationship was found with FFMI.

Conclusions
Changes in MSFsc and SJL during adolescence were associated with concurrent changes in BMI-SDS and FMI. The age ≥12 to ≤15 years appears to be a sensitive period in which chronobiological changes were clearly associated with increasing body fatness.

Methods
In total, 9999 3-day dietary records collected between 1985 and 2019 by 1126 participants (3.5–18.5 years; boys: 50.8%) of the Dortmund Nutritional and Anthropometric Longitudinally Designed (DONALD) study were analysed. Polynomial mixed-effects regression models were used to examine whether changes (median follow-up: 9 years) in the intake of TD and dairy types (in 100 g/1000 kcal total energy intake) were associated with changes in body-mass-index-standard-deviation-score (BMI-SDS); fat mass index (FMI); fat-free mass index (FFMI) over time.

Results
<jats:p>An individual increase in TD intake was slightly but significantly associated with an increase in BMI-SDS (<jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.0092; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0371), FMI (<jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.022; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0162), and FFMI (<jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.0156; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0417) after adjustment for potential confounder. Analyses for LD (BMI-SDS: <jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.0139; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0052; FMI: <jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.0258; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0125; FFMI: <jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.0239; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0052) and LSD intake (BMI-SDS: <jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.0132; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0041, FMI: <jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.02; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0316, FFMI: <jats:italic>β </jats:italic>= 0.0183; <jats:italic>p</jats:italic> = 0.0189) showed similar results to TD. Both processing method and fat content showed no association with body composition in our analyses.</jats:p>

Conclusion
Increases in TD, LD, and LSD intake showed small but significant increases in BMI and concomitant increases in fat mass and lean mass. However, the observed changes were too small to expect biological or physiological meaningful effects. Overall, our results showed that policies to promote dairy intake in childhood are to be welcomed, as no negative effects on body composition are expected, while the intake of important nutrients for growth is ensured. The type of dairy does not seem to matter.

text:
Abstract
In order to reduce fuel consumption
and thus pollutant emissions, the automotive industry is increasingly developing
lightweight construction concepts that are accompanied by an increasing usage
of aluminum materials. Due to poor weldability of aluminum in combination with
other materials, mechanical joining methods such as clinching were developed and
established in series production. In order to predict the relevant characteristics
of clinched joints and to ensure the reliability of the process, it is simulated
numerically during product development processes. In this regard, the predictive
accuracy of the simulated process highly depends on the implemented friction model.
In particular, the frictional behavior between the sheet metals as well as between
the sheet metal and clinching tools has a significant impact on the geometrical
formation of the clinched joint. No testing methods exist that can sufficiently
investigate the frictional behavior in sheet materials, especially under high
interface pressures, different relative velocities, and long friction paths, while
allowing a decoupled consideration of the test parameters. This paper describes
the development of further testing concepts based on a proven tribo-torsion test
method for determining friction coefficients between sheet metal materials for
the simulation of clinching processes. For this purpose, the correlation of interface
pressure and the relative velocity between aluminum and steel sheet material in
clinching processes is investigated using numerical simulation. Based on these
findings, the developed concepts focus on determining friction coefficients at
interface pressures of the above materials, yield stress, as well as the reproduction
of the occurring friction conditions between sheet metal materials and tool surfaces
in clinching processes using tool substitutes. Furthermore, wear investigations
between sheet metal material and tool surface were carried out in the friction
tests with subsequent EDX analyses of the frictioned tool surfaces. The developed
method also allows an optical deformation measurement of the sheet metal material
specimen by means of digital image correlation (DIC). Based on a methodological
approach, the test setups and the test systems used are explained, and the functionality
of the concepts is proven by experimental tests using different sheet metal materials.

text:
In the last decade, the German transition system has witnessed the
large‐scale introduction of so‐called “analysis of potentials” (<em>Potenzialanalysen</em>)
in secondary compulsory schooling. In most German Länder, 8th graders must participate
in a two‐day assessment center which combines psychometric testing with observations
of their social and professional competencies in pre‐specified tasks. The programmatic
aim of these assessments is to “introduce pupils early to choosing a job” (Bundesministerium
für Bildung und Forschung [BMBF], 2017, p. 2) as well as to enhance the propensity
of pupils to “take responsibility for their own future” (BMBF, 2017, p. 9). In
the context of the German school‐to‐work system, the introduction of these new
forms of diagnostics bear witness to a new preventive political rationality that
aims at reducing the entry age into upper secondary education, reduce the recourse
to so‐called “transition measures” and optimizing transitions into an apprenticeship
market that is characterized by structural inequalities and “mismatch” between
pupils’ job aspirations and the offers in apprenticeship places. However, little
is known on the role of competency testing devices for the construction of further
trajectories and aspirations and their role in the reproduction of inequalities
in transitions from school to work. Based on an in‐depth analysis of policy documents
and competency profiles (the documents handed out to the pupils after undergoing
testing), the article reconstructs the political rationale for the introduction
of the so‐called <em>Potenzialanalysen</em>. Based on a Foucauldian
framework, we show how pupils are constructed as “competent” subjects. We show
that competency assessments are part and parcel of a political rationality that
aims at the promotion of a specific (future‐oriented, optimized, self‐regulated)
relation to one’s own biographical future on the side of the pupils. Our results
demonstrate that competency profiles construct the process of choosing a job as
an individualized project of the self and that they invisibilize structural barriers
and power relations. In doing so, competency assessments potentially contribute
to the reproduction of inequalities in post‐secondary education through delegating
“cooling out” processes from institutional gatekeepers to the interiority of persons.
