abstract = {{This paper presents a broadband track-and-hold amplifier (THA) based on switched-emitter-follower (SEF) topology. The THA exhibits both large- and small-signal bandwidth exeeding 60 GHz. It achieves an effective number of bits (ENOB) of 7 bit at 34 GHz input frequency and an ENOB of >5 bit over the whole input frequency bandwidth at sampling rate of 10 GS/s. Much higher sampling rates are possible but lead to somewhat worse performance. The chip was fabricated in a 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS technology from IHP (SG13G2). It draws 78 mA from a -4.8 V supply voltage, dissipating 375 mW.}},

abstract = {{In this paper we present the system and circuit level analysis and feasibility study of applying microwave Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems with multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) reader technology for tracking machining tools in multipath fading conditions of production environments. In the proposed system the MIMO reader interrogates single-antenna tags, and a high RFID frequency of 5.8 GHz is chosen to reduce the size of the reader's antenna array. According to the requirements dictated by the performed system analysis at 5.8 GHz, a low power fully integrated analog frontend (AFE) is designed and fabricated in a standard 65-nm CMOS technology for low power passive transponders. Performance of the Differential Drive Rectifier (DDR) topology as the core of the energy harvesting unit is investigated in detail. A multi-stage DDR power scavenging unit is dimensioned to provide a 1.2 V rectified voltage for 20-30 kQ load range, with a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) for high frequency and low input power level signals. The rectified voltage is then converted to a 1 V regulated voltage for the AFE and the baseband processor with 30 to 50 μW of estimated power consumption. Transistors with standard threshold voltage (VT) have been used for implementation. Measurements of the fabricated multi-stage configuration of the circuit show a maximum PCE of 68.8% at -12.46 dBm, and an input quality factor (Q-factor) of approximately 10. Amplitude-shift keying (ASK) demodulator and backscattering modulator with 80% modulation index, operating according to EPC-C1G2 protocol are applied for data transfer. The AFE consumes less than 1 μW in the reading mode. The AFE tag chip is 0.55 × 0.58 mm 2 .}},

abstract = {{	Since the Tractarian ontology was only a formal presentation of our language and thinking (of everything intelligible), not metaphysics, its claims that the propositions are constructed (4.5), and that “a proposition constructs a world” (4.023) indicate the legitimacy of its reconstruction we are going to make in the present chapter. It discusses Wittgenstein’s constructivist ontology of ways. Wittgenstein’s ways are different both from modi and from tropes. In short, his ontology of ways explores the manners in which the elements of one basic ontological system can arranged to produce ontological systems of higher order. The advantage of this ontology is that it suggests an elegant solution to the problem of constructing ontological systems of new order, such as states of affairs, thinking, language, logic and works of art. }},

Like in a conventional phased array system with optical carrier distribution, optical fibers are used to distribute the carrier from the basestation to the wireless frontends. However in contrast to prior concepts, we propose to use an optical IQ return path from the wireless frontends back to the basestation. Furthermore, we reuse the optical carrier signal for the IQ return path which allows to avoid local oscillator lasers in the wireless frontends and reduces the hardware effort significantly. The system concept allows to integrate all components of an optoelectronic wireless frontend in a single chip using silicon photonics technology.}},

abstract = {{During the eighteenth century, the Reichskammergericht or Imperial Chamber of Justice seemed to teeter almost continuously on the edge of demise. Its financial straits are generally attributed to a reluctance of the Estates to support the court by paying the fixed yearly tax, the Zieler. The Estates, it is assumed, simply weren’t interested anymore as they would rather invest in the establishment of their own territorial courts of justice. In my presentation, I would like to contest these assumptions by looking more closely at debates that took place at the Imperial Diet in the years 1719–1732. At the time, the Estates were discussing possible measures to improve or at least stabilise the yield of the Zieler to ensure the Chamber’s survival. This provoked a heated debate on the causes of the dwindling yield and ways to make Estates pay more reliably. Suggestions ranged from abolishing tax privileges, taxing new territories, simply writing off old dues to harsher enforcement. Because these debates became so profound that they threatened to incapacitate the Zieler-system altogether, analysing them will reveal critical assumptions and attitudes of Estates concerning fiscal duties. I will contend that the – apparent – inability of the Empire to maintain its fiscal capacity shouldn’t be attributed solely to a lack in interest, but mainly to severely conflicting views on the tax system’s deficiencies and ways to redress them. }},

abstract = {{The increasingly simulation-driven design process of ultrasonic transducers requires several reliable parameters for the description of the material behaviour. Exact results can only be achieved when a single specimen is used in the identification process, which typically is prone to the problem of low sensitivities to certain material parameters and thus high uncertainties. Therefore, a custom electrode topology for increased sensitivity is proposed for a piezoceramic disc. The thereupon conducted measurements of the electric impedance can be used as a starting point for an inverse approach where an equivalent simulation model is used to identify fitting material parameters. An optimisation strategy based on a preliminary sensitivity analysis is presented that leads to a good agreement between measurement and simulation. Furthermore, the proposed measurement procedure is able to evaluate the quality of the simulation model. Hence, different frequency-dependent damping models are presented and evaluated.}},
