text: We propose a mild and versatile synthesis protocol based on N-hydroxysuccinimide-activated
esters for the introduction of new functionalities to cellulose, using as starting
point established protocols for the tosylation of cellulose and its subsequent
reaction with a diamine linker. As a proof of concept, we describe the functionalization
of microcrystalline cellulose with a N-hydroxysuccinimide-activated ester of benzophenone,
a photoreactive functional group. Irradiation of the final product with UV light
yields a self-standing polymer film and is expected to result in cross-linking
among cellulose chains. To monitor structural changes at the molecular level,
each functionalization step is characterized by a multinuclear solid-state NMR
approach. DNP-enhanced 15N CP MAS NMR experiments reveal the formation of the
amide bond to the photoreactive linker and deliver further information about the
binding situation of nitrogen-containing groups in these materials. The flexible
synthesis protocol described here can be easily extended to a broad range of other
functionalities of interest, both for the cellulose and macromolecular research.

text: This paper presents a broadband track-and-hold amplifier (THA) based on switched-emitter-follower
(SEF) topology. The THA exhibits both large- and small-signal bandwidth exeeding
60 GHz. It achieves an effective number of bits (ENOB) of 7 bit at 34 GHz input
frequency and an ENOB of >5 bit over the whole input frequency bandwidth at sampling
rate of 10 GS/s. Much higher sampling rates are possible but lead to somewhat
worse performance. The chip was fabricated in a 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS technology
from IHP (SG13G2). It draws 78 mA from a -4.8 V supply voltage, dissipating 375
mW.

text: "\tSince the Tractarian ontology was only a formal presentation of our language
and thinking (of everything intelligible), not metaphysics, its claims that the
propositions are constructed (4.5), and that “a proposition constructs a world”
(4.023) indicate the legitimacy of its reconstruction we are going to make in
the present chapter. It discusses Wittgenstein’s constructivist ontology of ways.
Wittgenstein’s ways are different both from modi and from tropes. In short, his
ontology of ways explores the manners in which the elements of one basic ontological
system can arranged to produce ontological systems of higher order. The advantage
of this ontology is that it suggests an elegant solution to the problem of constructing
ontological systems of new order, such as states of affairs, thinking, language,
logic and works of art. "

text: Aufbauend auf der Theorie von Jeffrey C. Alexander entwickelt der Artikel
einen Begriff des kulturellen Traumas als irreparable Störung des kulturellen
Deutungsgewebes eines Kollektivs. Am Beispiel der Romane "Der Bastard von Istanbul"
(Safak) und "Die Richter des Jüngsten Gerichts" (Akhanli) werden Formen literarischen
Gedächtnisses - im Sinne eines polyphonen Gedächtnisses - als Arbeiten am kulturellen
Trauma thematisiert.

text: 'During the eighteenth century, the Reichskammergericht or Imperial Chamber
of Justice seemed to teeter almost continuously on the edge of demise. Its financial
straits are generally attributed to a reluctance of the Estates to support the
court by paying the fixed yearly tax, the Zieler. The Estates, it is assumed,
simply weren’t interested anymore as they would rather invest in the establishment
of their own territorial courts of justice. In my presentation, I would like to
contest these assumptions by looking more closely at debates that took place at
the Imperial Diet in the years 1719–1732. At the time, the Estates were discussing
possible measures to improve or at least stabilise the yield of the Zieler to
ensure the Chamber’s survival. This provoked a heated debate on the causes of
the dwindling yield and ways to make Estates pay more reliably. Suggestions ranged
from abolishing tax privileges, taxing new territories, simply writing off old
dues to harsher enforcement. Because these debates became so profound that they
threatened to incapacitate the Zieler-system altogether, analysing them will reveal
critical assumptions and attitudes of Estates concerning fiscal duties. I will
contend that the – apparent – inability of the Empire to maintain its fiscal capacity
shouldn’t be attributed solely to a lack in interest, but mainly to severely conflicting
views on the tax system’s deficiencies and ways to redress them. '
