Originally developed for mobile Augmented Reality (mAR), PEARL was adapted for MR to offer a more immersive and intuitive experience through hand and gesture controls. Since many students lack experience with MR devices, a user-friendly onboarding system is essential. The study aims to redesign PEARL’s user interface and onboarding experience, evaluating how intuitive interaction elements impact usability. First, a literature review will identify existing usability guidelines for MR applications, which will guide the redesign of the interface. This new version will then be tested with students through a user study. Feedback will be collected via an online survey to assess the onboarding and user experience, and the findings will be used to refine the design further. The expected outcome is an improved onboarding process and interface, making PEARL accessible even for MR novices, enhancing their ability to interact with 3D objects in a real-world setting. Ultimately, the study aims to provide best practices for developing intuitive MR interfaces and effective onboarding experiences, especially in educational contexts."}],"publication":"Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems","keyword":["Meta Quest 3","Augmented Reality","Mixed Reality","PEARL","Electrical Engineering","Laboratory Training","Onboarding","User Experience","User Interface","Heuristics"],"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"place":"Cham","intvolume":" 2","page":"199-211","citation":{"ieee":"M. Since Augmented Reality\r\n(AR) faces similar challenges, it is used as the 5G application. This research aims\r\nto determine the extent to which a learning unit using 5G and AR for collaborative\r\nwork can increase the intention to use these technologies in the vocational setting\r\nand gathers the factors that make up 5G acceptance. It is based on the Technology Acceptance Model 2 (TAM2). The sample includes 23 industrial mechanics\r\nstudents who participated in the developed learning unit. All items are scored on\r\nseven-tiered Likert scales (0 “totally disagree”; 6 “totally agree”).\r\nThe results showed a non-significant change in behavioural intention to use\r\n5G, with a mean of 4.95 (SD: 1.18) for the pre-test and 4.43 (SD: 1.68) for the posttest. The change in intention to use AR did not change significantly either, from\r\n3.12 (SD: 1.38) at pre-test to 3.37 (SD: 1.16) at post-test. The factors Perceived\r\nUsefulness, Image, and Relevance had the lowest mean scores, indicating areas for\r\ntargeted improvement. The significant change in Output Quality ratings is likely to\r\nreflect initial overestimation by students. The difference in Behavioural Intentions\r\nbetween 5G and AR suggests that AR may not be an effective technology for\r\nincreasing 5G adoption in educational contexts. One recommendation is to address\r\n5G in the learning unit not only indirectly.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"Proceedings of the 27th International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning (ICL2024), Volume 4","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"keyword":["5G","Key Technology","TAM · Augmented Reality","VET"],"year":"2025","title":"The Influence of an Immersive-Collaborative Learning Unit on the Technology Acceptance of 5G and AR of Industrial Mechanic Students","date_created":"2026-03-17T13:39:04Z","publisher":"Springer Nature Switzerland","status":"public","editor":[{"last_name":"Auer","full_name":"Auer, Michael E.","first_name":"Michael E."},{"first_name":"Tiia","last_name":"Rüütmann","full_name":"Rüütmann, Tiia"}],"type":"book_chapter","user_id":"68949","series_title":"Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems","_id":"65032","page":"84 – 91","intvolume":" 1281","citation":{"ama":"Schäfers J, Temmen K.
