However, studies on organizational change show that the majority of transformations undertaken fail because they are characterized by a lack of clarity, overload and ineffective measures. This paper shows how a clear structure as a critical success factor can make the chaos and challenges of a transformation manageable. The focus here is on a practice-oriented framework that divides a transformation into nine essential building blocks with activities that are critical to success. The structure of the framework is understood as a flexible organizing principle for a transformation without hindering creativity and dynamics. Case studies show the adaptability and applicability of the framework to different characteristics and dimensions of transformation. The transformation framework provides an operative structure and enables transformation managers for transparent orchestration and implementation of transformation.
"}],"publication":"AHFE International","type":"conference"},{"language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"58595","department":[{"_id":"43"},{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"26"},{"_id":"152"}],"_id":"62181","status":"public","abstract":[{"text":"
This research investigates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be systematically integrated into existing business processes by combining suitable competencies with graphical AI workflow modelling. While AI offers a high potential for automation and increased efficiency, its implementation often fails due to a lack of interdisciplinary competencies that bridge the gap between domain expertise and IT know-how. Low-code platforms and visual modelling tools are increasingly recognised as enablers, empowering non-programmers to intuitively create graphical AI- based workflows. Nevertheless, specific competencies are required to realise the full potential of AI, the domain specific knowledge and align technical understanding with AI capabilities. The paper reviews the state of the art in AI-driven business process automation and competencies for visual low-code approaches. It then presents a practical solution to identify and systematise essential competence areas. Based on this, a practical competence model is developed to support the design of user-friendly, AI-enabled workflows. This is tested in a practical application context — emergency management — where it supports critical decision-making processes and is validated through expert feedback. The study concludes by offering actionable recommendations to help organisations foster the necessary competencies and methods for competently integrating AI into their digital processes.
","lang":"eng"}],"type":"conference","publication":"AHFE International","doi":"10.54941/ahfe1006785","conference":{"end_date":"2025-09-24","location":"Split","name":"7th International Conference on Human Systems Engineering and Design: Future Trends and Applications (IHSED 2025)","start_date":"2025-09-22"},"title":"Graphical AI workflow modelling: Identifying relevant competencies in AI-based automation of business processes","date_created":"2025-11-13T16:37:59Z","author":[{"first_name":"Iris","id":"47565","full_name":"Gräßler, Iris","orcid":"0000-0001-5765-971X","last_name":"Gräßler"},{"first_name":"Deniz","last_name":"Özcan","id":"58595","full_name":"Özcan, Deniz"}],"volume":198,"publisher":"AHFE International","date_updated":"2025-11-13T16:41:39Z","citation":{"short":"I. Small and medium-sized enterprises often struggle to implement future-oriented digital business models. The aim is to develop decision support to help companies plan ahead and assess their value proposition, with a focus on foresighted planning. Based on literature research, expert interviews and the analysis of existing solutions, an understanding of “sustainable value” and requirements of decision support are defined. Decision support is implemented in a software. The main contribution is the setup of functions and content such as a list of influence factors, analysing influences and evaluating ideas, control questions and support for the implementation of digital business models. Validation through expert interviews and workshops in mechanical and plant engineering shows that the software supports enterprises in foresighted planning of value proposition and the selection of a concept for digital business models. Its introduction is forcing companies to undertake major transformation initiatives. As established change management approaches show, the corporate culture is an important key criterion for success of transformation. Therefore, when introducing Systems Engineering into an organization, transformation initiatives must be tailored to an existing corporate culture or the corporate culture itself must be changed in order to enable Systems Engineering. In literature and in industrial practice, different approaches for assessment of corporate culture exist. Within this research, a systematic literature review on methods and models for corporate culture assessment is conducted. Core elements are collected and combined with the fundamentals and success factors of Systems Engineering to develop a model for corporate culture assessment. The developed model is applied to the industrial practice of an ongoing Systems Engineering transformation of a large car manufacturer. The results of the assessment are compared with the emerging project challenges. Based on this model and its supporting tool and templates, organizations and transformation leaders are enabled to rapidly obtain an orientation of hindering or supporting currently established cultural aspects with regard to Systems Engineering transformation and to provide a decision basis for further measures.
","lang":"eng"}],"type":"conference","publication":"AHFE International","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"user_id":"52359","department":[{"_id":"152"}],"_id":"56670","citation":{"apa":"Graessler, I., & Grewe, B. This includes forecasting demand, availability and feasibility checks for customer orders, supply chain network design and information flow inside the supply chain planning processes. However, the successful implementation of AI in SCM requires a deep understanding of both the domain-specific challenges and the capabilities and limitations of AI technologies. Thus, this paper proposes an overarching approach that facilitates collaboration between domain experts in SCM and AI experts, enabling them to jointly develop effective solutions. The paper begins by outlining the key challenges faced by SCM professionals, including demand volatility, complexities in inventory management, and dynamic market conditions. Subsequently, it delves into the challenges associated with developing AI solutions for SCM, including data quality, interpretability, and model transparency. To address these challenges, the proposed approach promotes close collaboration and knowledge exchange between SCM and AI experts. By leveraging the domain knowledge and experience of SCM experts, AI experts can better understand the special issues of SCM processes and tailor AI techniques to suit specific needs. In turn, SCM experts can gain insights into the capabilities and limitations of AI, allowing them to make informed decisions regarding the adoption and integration of AI in their supply chain planning operations. Furthermore, the paper discusses the importance of establishing a multidisciplinary team comprising experts from the fields of SCM, AI, and IT. This team-based approach fosters a holistic understanding of SCM challenges and ensures the development of AI solutions that align with business goals and practical constraints. In conclusion, this paper highlights the challenges in combining SCM and AI and proposes a collaborative approach to address these challenges effectively. By leveraging the expertise of both domain and AI experts, organizations can develop tailored AI solutions that enhance supply chain planning, improve decision-making processes, and drive competitive advantage. The proposed approach contributes to the successful integration of AI in SCM, ultimately leading to more efficient and resilient supply chains in the era of artificial intelligence.
","lang":"eng"}],"user_id":"102490","_id":"54286","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication_status":"published","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2771-0718"]},"citation":{"apa":"Lick, J., Wohlers, B., Sahrhage, P., Schreckenberg, F., Klöckner, S., Von Enzberg, S., Kühn, A., & Dumitrescu, R.
