  abstract     = {{This paper describes how methods and techniques from different fields of research can be combined to evaluate cost-intensive and business-critical decisions regarding future market development. In their concrete application a leading company from the construction supply industry has to make a decision on setting up of a spare part logistic. Three future alternatives (negative, constant, positive market growth) on market trends are simulated with a Monte Carlo simulation by considering a given demand history and possible locations for storage facilities were isolated by applying the Steiner-Weber method. Finally solving a mixed-integer formulation of the Uncapacitated-Facility-Location-Problem gives information on opening/closing new/existing storage facilities by minimizing all relevant costs. The results of this approach, containing information about a cost-based evaluation of all business related decision criteria, were examined with a sensitivity analysis.

  abstract     = {{In this paper we propose a procedure for estimating the geometric configuration of an arbitrary acoustic sensor placement. It determines the position and the orientation of microphone arrays in 2D while locating a source by direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimation. Neither artificial calibration signals nor unnatural user activity are required. The problem of scale indeterminacy inherent to DoA-only observations is solved by adding time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements. The geometry calibration method is numerically stable and delivers precise results in moderately reverberated rooms. Simulation results are confirmed by laboratory experiments.}},

  abstract     = {{In this work, we derive a maximum likelihood formula for beamsteering in a multi-sensor array. The novelty of the work is that the impinging signal and noises are wide sense stationary (WSS) time series with unknown power spectral densities, unlike in previous work that typically considers white signals. Our approach naturally provides a way of fusing frequency-dependent information to obtain a broadband beamformer. In order to obtain the compressed likelihood, it is necessary to find the maximum likelihood estimates of the unknown parameters. However, this problem turns out to be an ML estimation of a block-Toeplitz matrix, which does not have a closed-form solution. To overcome this problem, we derive the asymptotic likelihood, which is given in the frequency domain. Finally, some simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed technique. In these simulations, it is shown that our approach presents the best results.}},

  abstract     = {{We present numerical results of the mutual coupling between photonic crystal cavities and semiconductor quantum dots. Normal mode splitting between a single cavity mode and a single quantum dot is shown under weak excitation, while under strong excitation Q‐factor dependent side bands appear, according to the AC‐Stark effect. Coupled photonic crystals, aligned parallel but displaced under a 30°‐angle for efficient coupling, show line splittings of all eigenmodes, if a single eigenmode is resonantly coupled to a single quantum dot. The mutual coupling of N resonant quantum dots to a single cavity mode results in a N−−√
 scaling of the splitting, known from quantum optics, but corrected by the field amplitude fraction for not collocated quantum dots.}},

  abstract     = {{There has been a lot of progress in finding measurable quantities of high in- formation content for the inverse determination of piezoelectric material properties. Since some material parameters (mainly \textgreek{e}S 11, e15and cE 44) do not or only marginally influence the electrical impedance over frequency, it is not sufficient to look only at the electri- cal impedance of discoidal piezoceramics [1]. Moreover, the parameter sensitivities vary with respect to the diameter-thickness ratio of the disc and the design of an ultrasonic transducer's piezoceramic has to match other requirements than those of a good material characterization [2, 3]. That is why it is still desirable to find model based approaches for parameter identification that either keep the technical effort low (e.g., only an impedance measurement) or increase speed of the inversion procedure. In this contribution we answer the question if an additional analytical approximation of cE 44, strictly following the ideas of Theocaris [4], in conjunction with a single measured elec- trical impedance will be sufficient for an accurate simulation of both, electrical impedance and surface normal velocity of a piezoceramic disc. Thereby, the remaining parameters are identified by means of the Inverse Method. Furthermore, we use the parameter ap- proximation as an initial guess and limiting boundary to speed up the inverse algorithm if both, electrical impedance and surface normal velocity are taken into account within the optimization procedure.}},

  abstract     = {{<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>We present an efficient model for the simulation of solid to solid phase‐transformations in polycrystalline materials. As a basis, we implement a scalar‐valued Gibbs‐energy‐barrier‐based phase‐transformation model making use of statistical physics. In this work, we particularly adopt the model for the simulation of phase‐transformations between an austenitic parent phase and a martensitic tension and compression phase. The incorporation of plasticity phenomena is established by enhancing the Helmholtz free energy functions of the material phases considered, where the plastic driving forces acting in each phase are derived from the overall free energy potential. The coupled model is embedded into a micro‐sphere formulation in order to simulate three‐dimensional boundary value problems—a technique well‐established in the context of computational inelasticity at small strains.
