In the context of dynamic mechanical systems, this enables the compensation of modeling inaccuracies that arise from simplifications, missing effects, or uncertain parameters. In this work, a hybrid model is used as a starting point, in which the discrepancy between simulation and measurement is learned and compensated by a data-driven correction element. To integrate such models into commercial multibody system (MBS) software like MSC Adams and Simpack, the formulation is adapted to operate directly on the force level. This allows implementation via standard co-simulation interfaces without modifying the system’s differential equations or solvers. The method is demonstrated using a single-mass oscillator with synthetic measurement data. The proposed approach is showcased in the context of two examples of complex systems from the field of swarm intelligence: ant colony foraging and bird flocking. Central to this study is a toolchain that integrates LLMs with the NetLogo simulation platform, leveraging its Python extension to enable communication with GPT-4o via the OpenAI API. This toolchain facilitates prompt-driven behavior generation, allowing agents to respond adaptively to environmental data. For both example applications mentioned above, we employ both structured, rule-based prompts and autonomous, knowledge-driven prompts. Our work demonstrates how this toolchain enables LLMs to study self-organizing processes and induce emergent behaviors within multi-agent environments, paving the way for new approaches to exploring intelligent systems and modeling swarm intelligence inspired by natural phenomena. However, this technology also introduces significant security challenges. Previous research highlighted the security implications of G-Codes—commands used to control the printing process. These studies assumed powerful attackers and focused on manipulations of the printed models, leaving gaps in understanding the full attack potential.\r\n\r\nIn this study, we systematically analyze security threats associated with 3D printing, focusing specifically on vulnerabilities caused by G-Code commands. We introduce attacks and attacker models that assume a less powerful adversary than traditionally considered, broadening the scope of potential security threats. Our findings show that even minimal access to the 3D printer can result in significant security breaches, such as unauthorized access to subsequent print jobs or persistent misconfiguration of the printer. We identify 278 potentially malicious G-Codes across the attack categories Information Disclosure, Denial of Service, and Model Manipulation. Our evaluation demonstrates the applicability of these attacks across various 3D printers and their firmware. This study examines a novel method for determining a two-dimensional distribution of two distinct particle properties within the size range from 50nm to 1000nm: the Centrifugal Differential Mobility Analyzer (CDMA). The CDMA enables the simultaneous measurement of both mobility and Stokes equivalent diameters, providing a detailed two-dimensional particle property distribution. This, in turn, allows for the extraction of shape-related information, which is essential for characterizing particles in terms of their chemical composition, reactivity, and other physicochemical properties. This paper presents a detailed evaluation of a first CDMA prototype. First, CFD simulations of the flow field within the classifier are presented in order to assess and understand non-idealities arising from the exact geometry. Subsequently, the transfer function is evaluated by particle trajectory calculations based on the simulated flow field. It can be demonstrated that the simulated transfer functions agree quite well with transfer functions derived from streamlines of an ideal flow field, indicating that the non-idealities in the classifying region are almost negligible in their effect on the classification result. An experimental determination of the transfer function shows additional effects not covered by the previous simulations, like broadening by diffusion and losses due to diffusion and precipitation within the in- and outlet of the classifier. Finally, the determined transfer functions are used to determine the full two-dimensional distribution with regard to the mobility and Stokes equivalent diameter of real aerosols, like spherical particles and aggregates at different sintering stages, respectively.
","lang":"eng"}],"issue":"2","publication":"Powders","type":"journal_article","keyword":["centrifugal differential mobility analysis","2D-measurement","particle characterization","moving reference frame CFD-simulation","transfer function"],"date_created":"2025-08-25T16:10:45Z","date_updated":"2025-08-25T16:15:41Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 4","article_type":"original","year":"2025","title":"Centrifugal Differential Mobility Analysis—Validation and First Two-Dimensional Measurements","author":[{"full_name":"Rüther, Torben Norbert","first_name":"Torben Norbert","last_name":"Rüther"},{"full_name":"Gröne, Sebastian","first_name":"Sebastian","last_name":"Gröne"},{"full_name":"Dechert, Christopher","first_name":"Christopher","last_name":"Dechert"},{"id":"464","last_name":"Schmid","first_name":"Hans-Joachim","orcid":"000-0001-8590-1921","full_name":"Schmid, Hans-Joachim"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2674-0516"]},"doi":"10.3390/powders4020011","article_number":"11","language":[{"iso":"eng"}]},{"date_created":"2025-08-28T12:58:15Z","department":[{"_id":"152"}],"keyword":["robotic simulation","rescue robots","emergency response","extreme weather"],"type":"conference","publication":"Mensch und Computer 2025 - Workshopband","abstract":[{"lang":"eng","text":"In early operational phases of severe weather events, a lack of\r\ninformation challenges emergency management teams to gain\r\nan overview of the situation and make informed decisions. Mechanical joining methods, such as clinching, are characterised by locally large plastic deformations of the sheet metal to be joined. The majority of the thereby inserted work is transformed into heat. The heat generation and temperature evolution are systematically studied herein by means of thermomechanical process simulations for joining the dual-phase steel HCT590X and the aluminium alloy EN-AW 6014. The thermal-induced softening of the material is incorporated by a suitable coupled thermoplastic constitutive model. It is observed how the tools significantly and importantly contribute to the heat exchange. They reduce peak temperature increases of 225 K (without heat transfer to tools) to less than 90 K for realistic behaviour of contact heat transfer. However, solids conveying is a key aspect for processes with high screw speeds, grooved feed sections, small screw diameters and material with low bulk density. In injection moulding, throughput limitations are highly relevant in packaging applications as due to low cooling times, plasticizing affects the cycle time. In addition, insufficient solids conveying is a primary cause for air residues in the melt and final product. Therefore, well-designed feed sections are required, especially as direct processing of regrind in recycling applications becomes more relevant due to governmental restrictions. Existing models for injection moulding are based on analytical equations and do not allow to assess new feed sections and feed opening designs, adapted to high screw speeds or regrind. In this paper, numerical simulations based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM), previously used in the field of extrusion, are carried out. In order to replicate the cyclic, superimposed rotation and translation of the screw, a coupled approach of DEM and Multibody Systems Simulation (MBS) is pursued. To verify the accuracy of such coupled simulations, a special test setup is added to a conventional injection moulding machine. Pure solids conveying is investigated, as DEM does not accommodate for large plastic deformations or melting. Different screw and intake designs as well as smooth and grooved barrels are investigated. Selected resins, pellet shapes and regrind are processed, varying the processing parameters and comparing the results to the simulation. The coupled approach replicates reality well in terms of throughput, confirming that DEM can be utilised to further investigate process phenomena and develop calculation models for solids conveying in injection moulding.
"}]},{"doi":"10.1515/ipp-2025-0072","user_id":"59363","_id":"65007","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"date_updated":"2026-03-18T09:17:45Z","year":"2025","title":"Improvement of a numerical two-phase simulation model for single-screw plasticizing extruders based on experimental investigations","status":"public","author":[{"id":"45124","last_name":"Knaup","first_name":"Felix","full_name":"Knaup, Felix"},{"full_name":"Schöppner, Volker","last_name":"Schöppner","first_name":"Volker","id":"20530"}],"keyword":["CFD simulation","melting modeling","melting process","polymer extrusion","single-screw extruder"],"type":"journal_article","department":[{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"321"},{"_id":"367"}],"date_created":"2026-03-16T14:23:34Z","quality_controlled":"1","publication":"International Polymer Processing","citation":{"chicago":"Knaup, Felix, and Volker Schöppner. “Improvement of a Numerical Two-Phase Simulation Model for Single-Screw Plasticizing Extruders Based on Experimental Investigations.” International Polymer Processing, 2025. https://doi.org/10.1515/ipp-2025-0072.","short":"F. This thesis examines the development, testing, and evaluation of a mobile augmented reality application (mAR app), which is designed as a preparation tool for electrical engineering laboratory courses. The aim is to offer students an opportunity to work with laboratory equipment - primarily the oscilloscope - realistically without location and time constraints. The methodological basis is formed by the macrocycle of design-based research (DBR) as a structured framework and the heuristic model of the research pentagon, which specifies the implementation at the micro level. Didactic, technological, motivational, and evaluative components are systematically examined and further developed in a total of four research pentagons. The first pentagon focuses on the development of a didactically sound concept based on the principle of constructive alignment, which incorporates learning objectives, learning activities, and forms of assessment into five graduated learning levels. These range from initial orientation to independent problem-solving in a free experimentation mode. The second phase evaluates the technical feasibility of augmented and virtual reality (VR) in the laboratory environment using several prototypes. While VR turns out to be unsuitable due to technical limitations, AR - especially in the markerless version using the ARCore and ARKit software development kits (SDKs) - shows great potential for everyday use. In the third research pentagon, an onboarding module is created based on the first version of the mobile app (V0.17.01), which digitally maps the basic functions of a real oscilloscope. During this process, users are introduced to the virtual oscilloscope and become familiar with the main functions of the mAR app. The results show an overall neutral to slightly positive user experience, although technical weaknesses (e.g., reaction time and object fixing) negatively impact efficiency and controllability. In the fourth research pentagon, an eye-tracking study is carried out to investigate visual attention and individual solution strategies of expert and novice users when working with real oscilloscopes. Heatmaps and time sequences in defined areas of interest (AOI) provide first indications of differences in gaze behavior between the groups. The algorithmic scan path analysis, on the other hand, reveals a low degree of differentiation. The potential of eye tracking as an evaluation method is therefore critically reflected, but it is still considered to be relevant for future studies in light of technological advancements and the availability of eye trackers in mixed reality (MR) glasses. The final summative evaluation is carried out in the way of a pre-post test design with 70 participants and compares the usage of traditional materials such as videos and manuals with the improved mAR app. In the intervention group (IG), significant improvements emerge on both cognitive and affective levels: performance increases particularly in the areas of application, understanding, and analysis, while experimental self-concept and subject-related interest rise and feelings of overload and anxiety regarding the lab courses decline. As a limitation, the mAR app does not yield a clear advantage over the control group (CG), which can be attributed both to the highly refined materials and videos used in the CG and to technical constraints inherent to the mobile implementation: small displays, 2D interfaces on 3D devices, and imprecise touch interaction limit complex, sensitive motor tasks. These limitations are also reflected in the accompanying user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) questionnaires, which indicate mixed app ratings. Both groups show significant learning gains - particularly in the areas of application, understanding, and analysis. However, a significant advantage of the mAR App cannot be proven. Affective characteristics such as experimental self-concept and general experimental interests increase in both groups, while the feeling of fear before conducting real laboratory work decreases. The app itself achieves average ratings in user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) questionnaires. The thesis demonstrates that, despite technical limitations, the mobile AR application can provide a valuable alternative for preparing students for laboratory courses and familiarizing them with laboratory equipment. From the very beginning, the primary goal during development was a modular and flexible app architecture that can be extended with new devices, tasks, and functions. The main benefit is not in the mobile application itself, but in the strategic direction of future-oriented and scalable solutions for MR glasses, which allow immersive and realistic gesture interactions."}],"date_created":"2026-03-11T11:05:08Z","type":"research_data","department":[{"_id":"34"},{"_id":"3"},{"_id":"300"}]},{"user_id":"14972","doi":"10.17619/UNIPB/1-2438","_id":"63855","publisher":"Universitätsbibliothek Paderborn","date_updated":"2026-04-20T07:42:57Z","author":[{"first_name":"Christian","orcid":"https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9696-619X","last_name":"Zietlow","full_name":"Zietlow, Christian","id":"77368"}],"title":"A novel Lagrangian-based method for the deconvolution of electron energy-loss spectra","year":"2025","status":"public","department":[{"_id":"15"}],"type":"research_data","date_created":"2026-02-04T06:54:14Z","abstract":[{"lang":"ger","text":"Elektronenenergieverlustspektroskopie (engl. The precision of every EELS analysis, however, is inherently limited by noises and blur. This thesis offers a comprehensive understanding of the noise, which is particularly valuable at low dwell times necessary for beam sensitive materials and for electron-matter interactions with low frequency of occurrence, where the noise dominates the measurement. Additionally, correlations encountered in the noise of an EELS measurement are described from both a theoretical and experimental perspective. These correlations are caused by a convolution of the noisy signal with the detector point spread function. Methods for characterizing key noise parameters of typical detectors are described, allowing the noise model to be tailored to any EELS detector. Ultimately, a novel deconvolution method enabling significant sharpening and denoising of EELS measurements is introduced and demonstrated. Its efficiency is further validated on both simulation and experimental data. The described advancement offered by the proposed deconvolution method enables the extension of current electron microscope capabilities, facilitating analysis that would be unfeasible with existing deconvolution techniques.","lang":"eng"}],"citation":{"apa":"Zietlow, C. Predefined phases are selected without restrictions in the order according to a multi-objective optimisation to adapt to the traffic as freely as possible. Initially, the system is tested in simulations and compared with existing methods and analysed afterwards for its effectiveness in a prototype commissioning in field tests. Results indicate high potentials for reducing emissions and waiting times, highlighting the system's value. However, further refinement is necessary for standard implementation. This comprehensive approach demonstrates advancements in traffic management technology, showcasing the potential for enhancing urban mobility and reducing environmental impact.","lang":"eng"}],"date_created":"2025-03-24T08:57:08Z","keyword":["MPC"],"type":"conference","department":[{"_id":"153"}],"title":"Implementation and Results of a Multi-Stage Model Predictive Traffic Light Control System","year":"2025","author":[{"full_name":"Malena, Kevin","first_name":"Kevin","last_name":"Malena","orcid":"0000-0003-1183-4679","id":"36303"},{"first_name":"Christopher","last_name":"Link","full_name":"Link, Christopher","id":"38249"},{"full_name":"Gausemeier, Sandra","last_name":"Gausemeier","first_name":"Sandra","id":"17793"},{"full_name":"Trächtler, Ansgar","last_name":"Trächtler","first_name":"Ansgar","id":"552"}],"publication_identifier":{"issn":["2153-0017"]},"date_updated":"2026-04-29T08:49:46Z","publication_status":"published","intvolume":" 27","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"doi":"10.1109/itsc58415.2024.10919569"},{"citation":{"apa":"Krome, S., Duffe, T., Kullmer, G., Schramm, B., & Ostwald, R. To overcome the limitations of existing finite element tools, a modular Python framework has been developed to automate three-dimensional crack growth simulations. The program combines geometric reconstruction, adaptive remeshing, and the numerical evaluation of fracture mechanics parameters within a single, fully automated workflow. The framework builds on open-source components and remains solver-independent, enabling straightforward integration with commercial or research finite element codes. A dedicated sequence of modules performs all required steps, from mesh separation and crack insertion to local submodeling, stress and displacement mapping, and iterative crack-front update, without manual interaction. The methodology was verified using a mini-compact tension (Mini-CT) specimen as a benchmark case. The numerical results demonstrate the accurate reproduction of stress intensity factors and energy release rates while achieving high computational efficiency through localized refinement. The developed approach provides a robust basis for crack growth simulations of geometrically complex or residual stress-affected structures. Its high degree of automation and flexibility makes it particularly suited for analyzing cracks in clinched and riveted joints, supporting the predictive design and durability assessment of joined lightweight structures."}],"date_created":"2026-01-20T08:47:40Z","department":[{"_id":"9"},{"_id":"952"},{"_id":"321"}],"type":"journal_article","publication_identifier":{"issn":["2076-3417"]},"author":[{"id":"57245","full_name":"Krome, Sven","first_name":"Sven","last_name":"Krome"},{"id":"41322","full_name":"Duffe, Tobias","last_name":"Duffe","first_name":"Tobias"},{"id":"291","full_name":"Kullmer, Gunter","last_name":"Kullmer","first_name":"Gunter"},{"id":"4668","first_name":"Britta","last_name":"Schramm","full_name":"Schramm, Britta"},{"id":"106876","full_name":"Ostwald, Richard","last_name":"Ostwald","first_name":"Richard","orcid":"0000-0003-2147-8444"}],"year":"2025","title":"Validation and Verification of Novel Three-Dimensional Crack Growth Simulation Software GmshCrack3D","intvolume":" 16","date_updated":"2026-05-12T12:46:22Z","publication_status":"published","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"article_number":"384","doi":"10.3390/app16010384"},{"type":"conference","department":[{"_id":"7"},{"_id":"623"}],"date_created":"2024-01-07T20:09:13Z","abstract":[{"text":"Despite the fundamental role the Quantum Satisfiability (QSAT) problem has\r\nplayed in quantum complexity theory, a central question remains open: At which\r\nlocal dimension does the complexity of QSAT transition from \"easy\" to \"hard\"?\r\nHere, we study QSAT with each constraint acting on a $k$-dimensional and\r\n$l$-dimensional qudit pair, denoted $(k,l)$-QSAT. Our first main result shows\r\nthat, surprisingly, QSAT on qubits can remain $\\mathsf{QMA}_1$-hard, in that\r\n$(2,5)$-QSAT is $\\mathsf{QMA}_1$-complete. In contrast, $2$-SAT on qubits is\r\nwell-known to be poly-time solvable [Bravyi, 2006]. Our second main result\r\nproves that $(3,d)$-QSAT on the 1D line with $d\\in O(1)$ is also\r\n$\\mathsf{QMA}_1$-hard. Finally, we initiate the study of 1D $(2,d)$-QSAT by\r\ngiving a frustration-free 1D Hamiltonian with a unique, entangled ground state.\r\n Our first result uses a direct embedding, combining a novel clock\r\nconstruction with the 2D circuit-to-Hamiltonian construction of [Gosset, Nagaj,\r\n2013]. Of note is a new simplified and analytic proof for the latter (as\r\nopposed to a partially numeric proof in [GN13]). This exploits Unitary Labelled\r\nGraphs [Bausch, Cubitt, Ozols, 2017] together with a new \"Nullspace Connection\r\nLemma\", allowing us to break low energy analyses into small patches of\r\nprojectors, and to improve the soundness analysis of [GN13] from\r\n$\\Omega(1/T^6)$ to $\\Omega(1/T^2)$, for $T$ the number of gates. Our second\r\nresult goes via black-box reduction: Given an arbitrary 1D Hamiltonian $H$ on\r\n$d'$-dimensional qudits, we show how to embed it into an effective null-space\r\nof a 1D $(3,d)$-QSAT instance, for $d\\in O(1)$. Our approach may be viewed as a\r\nweaker notion of \"simulation\" (\\`a la [Bravyi, Hastings 2017], [Cubitt,\r\nMontanaro, Piddock 2018]). As far as we are aware, this gives the first\r\n\"black-box simulation\"-based $\\mathsf{QMA}_1$-hardness result, i.e. for\r\nfrustration-free Hamiltonians.","lang":"eng"}],"publication":"16th Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS)","issue":"85","doi":"10.4230/LIPIcs.ITCS.2025.85","language":[{"iso":"eng"}],"publication_status":"published","date_updated":"2026-05-15T08:38:31Z","intvolume":" 325","year":"2025","title":"Quantum 2-SAT on low dimensional systems is $\\mathsf{QMA}_1$-complete: Direct embeddings and black-box simulation","author":[{"full_name":"Rudolph, Dorian","first_name":"Dorian","last_name":"Rudolph","id":"57863"},{"orcid":"0000-0002-9992-3379","last_name":"Gharibian","first_name":"Sevag","full_name":"Gharibian, Sevag","id":"71541"},{"full_name":"Nagaj, Daniel","first_name":"Daniel","last_name":"Nagaj"}],"external_id":{"arxiv":["2401.02368"]},"citation":{"mla":"Rudolph, Dorian, et al. “Quantum 2-SAT on Low Dimensional Systems Is $\\mathsf{QMA}_1$-Complete: Direct Embeddings and Black-Box Simulation.” 16th Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS), vol. 325, no. 85, 2025, pp. 1–24, doi:10.4230/LIPIcs.ITCS.2025.85.","bibtex":"@inproceedings{Rudolph_Gharibian_Nagaj_2025, title={Quantum 2-SAT on low dimensional systems is $\\mathsf{QMA}_1$-complete: Direct embeddings and black-box simulation}, volume={325}, DOI={10.4230/LIPIcs.ITCS.2025.85}, number={85}, booktitle={16th Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science (ITCS)}, author={Rudolph, Dorian and Gharibian, Sevag and Nagaj, Daniel}, year={2025}, pages={1–24} }","ama":"Rudolph D, Gharibian S, Nagaj D.
