text: In this article, we present a flexible simulation environment for embedded
real-time software refinement by a mixed level cosimulation. For this, we combine
the native speed of an abstract real-time operating system (RTOS) model in SystemC
with dynamic binary translation for fast Instruction Set Simulation (ISS) by QEMU.
In order to support stepwise RTOS software refinement from system level to the
target software, each task can be separately migrated between the native execution
and the ISS. By adapting the dynamic binary translation approach to an efficient
but yet very accurate synchronization scheme the overhead of QEMU user mode execution
is only factor two compared to native SystemC. Furthermore, the simulation speed
increases almost linearly according to the utilization of the task set abstracted
by the native execution. Hereby, the simulation time can be considerably reduced
by cosimulating just a subset of tasks on QEMU.

text: It's wide application in the area of software engineering, UML is still not
fully accepted for other engineering domains like for electronic systems design.
The main obstacle is due to a major gap in the design flow between UML-based modeling
and verification. To overcome this gap, we introduce a UML profile for synthesizable
SystemC and C and present its implementation in the context of the advanced SysML
modeling environment of ARTiSAN Studio. We demonstrate how to customize Studio
for SystemC/C comodeling so that it can serve as a verification and synthesis
    front-end.

text: In this paper the two main definitions of quaternion properness (or second
order circularity) are reviewed, showing their connection with the structure of
the optimal quaternion linear processing. Specifically, we present a rigorous
generalization of the most common multivariate statistical analysis techniques
to the case of quaternion vectors, and show that the different kinds of quaternion
improperness require different kinds of widely linear processing. In general,
the optimal linear processing is \emph{full-widely linear}, which requires the
joint processing of the quaternion vector and its involutions over three pure
unit quaternions. However, in the case of jointly $\mathbbQ$-proper and $\mathbbC^{\eta}$-proper
vectors, the optimal processing reduces, respectively, to the \emphconventional
and \emph{semi-widely linear processing}, with the latter only requiring to operate
on the quaternion vector and its involution over the pure unit quaternion $\eta$.
Finally, a simulation example poses some interesting questions for future research.

  text: "
Abstract. The analysis of the mixed analogue and digital structure
of charge-pump phase-locked loops (CP-PLL) is a challenge in modelling and simulation.
In most cases the system is designed and characterized using its continuous linear
model or its discrete linear model neglecting its non-linear switching behaviour.
I.e., the time-varying model is approximated by a time-invariant representation
using its average dynamics. Depending on what kind of phase detector is used,
the scopes of validity of these approximations are different. Here, a preeminent
characterization and simulation technique based on the systems event-driven feature
is presented, merging the logical and analogue inherent characteristics of the
system. In particular, the high-grade non-linear locking process and the dead-zone
    are analyzed.\r\n
"

  text: "
Abstract. By the rising complexity and miniaturisation of the device's
dimensions, the density of the conductors increases considerably. Referring to
this, locally transient interactions between single physical values become apparent.
Therefore, for the investigation and optimisation of integrated circuits it is
essential to develop suitable models and simulation surroundings which allow for
memory and time-efficient calculation of the behaviour. By means of the dynamic
reconstruction theory and the radial basis functions nets the so-called black
box models are provided. The description of black box models is derived from the
input and output behaviour or so-called time series of a dynamic system. Concerning
the time series, the black box model adapts its parameters via the extended Kalman
filter. This paper provides a modelling approach that enables fast and efficient
    simulations.\r\n
"

As a basis, we use a one‐dimensional, thermodynamically consistent phase‐transformation

three‐dimensional boundary value problems. To solve the underlying evolution equations,
we use a newly developed explicit integration scheme which could be proved to

text: We present a computational scheme to study spin excitations in magnetic materials
from first principles. The central quantity is the transverse spin susceptibility,
from which the complete excitation spectrum, including single-particle spin-flip
Stoner excitations and collective spin-wave modes, can be obtained. The susceptibility
is derived from many-body perturbation theory and includes dynamic correlation
through a summation over ladder diagrams that describe the coupling of electrons
and holes with opposite spins. In contrast to earlier studies, we do not use a
model potential with adjustable parameters for the electron-hole interaction but
employ the random-phase approximation. To reduce the numerical cost for the calculation
of the four-point scattering matrix we perform a projection onto maximally localized
Wannier functions, which allows us to truncate the matrix efficiently by exploiting
the short spatial range of electronic correlation in the partially filled d or
f orbitals. Our implementation is based on the full-potential linearized augmented-plane-wave
method. Starting from a ground-state calculation within the local-spin-density
approximation (LSDA), we first analyze the matrix elements of the screened Coulomb
potential in the Wannier basis for the 3d transition-metal series. In particular,
we discuss the differences between a constrained nonmagnetic and a proper spin-polarized
treatment for the ferromagnets Fe, Co, and Ni. The spectrum of single-particle
and collective spin excitations in fcc Ni is then studied in detail. The calculated
spin-wave dispersion is in good overall agreement with experimental data and contains
both an acoustic and an optical branch for intermediate wave vectors along the
[100] direction. In addition, we find evidence for a similar double-peak structure
in the spectral function along the [111] direction. To investigate the influence
of static correlation we finally consider LSDA+U as an alternative starting point
and show that, together with an improved description of the Fermi surface, it
yields a more accurate quantitative value for the spin-wave stiffness constant,
which is overestimated in the LSDA.

text: "The electromagnetic field in the vicinity of sharp edges needs a special
treatment in numeric calculation whenever accurate, fast converging results are
necessary. One of the fundamental works concerning field singularities has been
proposed in 1972 [1] and states that the electromagnetic energy density must be
integrable over any finite\r\ndomain, even if this domain contains singularities.
It is shown, that the magnetic field \x02H(\x03, ϕ) and electric field \x02E(\x03,
    ϕ) are proportional to ∝ \x03(t−1) for \x03 → 0. The variable \x03 is the distance
to the edge and t has to fulfill the integrability condition and thus is restricted
to 0 < t < 1. This result is often used to reduce the error corresponding to the
singularity without increasing the numerical effort [2 - 5]. For this purpose,
a correction factor K is estimated by inserting the proportionality into the wave
equation. It is shown, that this method improves the accuracy of the result significantly,
however the order of convergence is often not studied. In [4] a method to modify
the material parameters in order to use analytic results to improve the numeric
calculation is presented. In this contribution we will - inspired by the scheme
given in [4] - develop a new method to estimate a correction factor for perfect
conducting materials (PEC) and demonstrate the improvement of the results compared
to the standard edge correction. Therefore analytic results (comparable to [1])
are consequently merged with the scheme in [4]. The main goal of this work is
the calculation of the second harmonic generation (SHG) in the wave response of
so-called metamaterials [6]. Frequently these structures\r\ncontain sharp metallic
edges with field singularities at the interfaces which have a strong impact on
the SHG signals. Thus, an accurate simulation of singularities is highly important.
However, the following approach can also be applied to many other setups, and
one of them is shown in the example below."

text: In this paper, we consider a model for precipitation experiments based on
the population balance equation. The study revealed a high sensitivity of the
system with respect to the modeling of intrinsic parameters, motivating a comprehensive
validation of the estimates. In the forward simulation the impact of the influencing
parameters including surface energy, nucleus size and distribution is investigated.
Subsequently we construct a simplified model of the precipitation process in such
a way that it is orbitally flat in terms of control theory, which enables the
inverse calculation of the parameters. The numerical results of the inverse simulation
for the interfacial energy have been compared to a physical model. The possibility
of solving the inverse problem provides a promising way of estimating hardly measurable
    quantities for more complex molecules.

text: In this work, a new model for the simulation of nanostructured aggregates
by simultaneous coagulation, sintering and surface growth is presented. Coagulation
is treated as cluster–cluster agglomeration along the line connecting the center
of mass of both agglomerates and is implemented using a Monte Carlo algorithm.
Sintering is modeled as successive overlapping of spheres which cause reduction
in the surface area based on a rate law for surface reduction. Surface growth
is modeled as an increase in primary particle diameter, e.g. as a result of surface
reactions. The evolved aggregates are analyzed by calculating their fractal dimension,
radius of gyration, mobility diameter and mobility shape factor. It is found that
the aggregates structure tends to be more compact when introducing the surface
growth in shorter time comparing to the coagulation-sintering step only. Fractal
dimension and the mobility shape factor of the resulting aggregates are correlated
to an effective dimensionless time that combines the characteristic times of these
three fundamental mechanisms. It is shown that the mobility diameter in the free
molecular regime is not proportional to the radius of gyration. A power law relation
that correlates the aggregates projected area and the equivalent number of primary
particles is found to be in a very good agreement with estimates published in
    literature.

text: The viscous-flow sintering of different agglomerate particle morphologies
is studied by three-dimensional computer simulations based on the concept of fractional
volume of fluid. For a fundamental understanding of particle sintering characteristics,
the neck growth kinetics in agglomerate chains and in doublets consisting of differently
sized primary particles is investigated. Results show that different sintering
contacts in agglomerates even during the first stages are not completely independent
from each other, even though differences are small. The neck growth kinetics of
differently sized primary particles is determined by the smaller one up to a size
difference by a factor of approximately 2, whereas for larger size differences,
the kinetics becomes faster. In particular, the agglomerate sintering kinetics
is investigated for particle chains of different lengths and for different particle
morphologies each having ten primary particles and nine initial sintering contacts.
For agglomerate chains, the kinetics approximately can be normalized by using
the radius of the fully coalesced sphere. In general, different agglomerate morphologies
show equal kinetics during the first sintering stages, whereas during advanced
stages, compact morphologies show significantly faster sintering progress than
more open morphologies. Hence, the overall kinetics cannot be described by simply
using constant morphology correction factors such as fractal dimension or mean
coordination number which are used in common sintering models. However, for the
first stages of viscous-flow agglomerate sintering, which are the most important
for many particle processes, a sintering equation is presented. Although we use
agglomerates consisting of spherical primary particles, our methodology can be
applied to other aggregate geometries as well.
