text: A model for simulation of the three-dimensional morphology of nano-structured
aggregates formed by concurrent coagulation and sintering is presented. Diffusion
controlled cluster–cluster aggregation is assumed to be the prevailing coagulation
mechanism which is implemented using a Monte–Carlo algorithm. Sintering is modeled
as a successive overlapping of spherical primary particles, which are allowed
to grow as to preserve overall mass. Simulations are characterized by individual
ratios τ of characteristic collision to fusion time. A number of resulting aggregate-structures
is displayed and reveals structure formation by coagulation and sintering for
different values of τ. These aggregates are described qualitatively and quantitatively
by their mass fractal dimension Df and radius of gyration. The fractal dimension
increases from 1.86 for pure aggregation to ≈ 2.75 for equal characteristic time
scales. As sintering turns out to be more and more relevant, increasingly compact
aggregates start to form and the radius of gyration decreases significantly. The
simulation results clearly reveal a strong dependence of the fractal dimension
on the kinetics of the concurrent coagulation and sintering processes. Considering
appropriate values of Df in aerosol process simulations may therefore be important
in many cases.

and analysis.\r\nTypically he can move free and unguided in a virtual environment
which visualizes the entire\r\nprocess. Thus knowledge and conclusions are to
some extend acquired on a random base.\r\nThis article describes the development
of a tool, which enables the user to interactively improve\r\nsignificant production
processes in the simulation. He moves in a virtual 3D-environment\r\n(walkthrough
system) and is able to acquire automatically calculated indications for significant\r\nprocesses.
At the same time the simulation considers significant objects in a more detailed
way. If\r\nthe viewer is interested in a significant process, he is automatically
guided to the relevant location\r\nwhere he can examine the critical situation

text: In turbomachinery, friction contacts are widely used to reduce dynamic stresses
in turbine blades in order to avoid expensive damages. As a result of energy dissipation
in the friction contacts the blade vibration amplitudes are reduced. In case of
so-called friction dampers, which are pressed on the platforms of the blades by
centrifugal forces, the damping effect can be optimized by varying the damper
mass. This optimization can be done by means of a simulation model applying the
so-called component mode synthesis and the Harmonic Balance Method to reduce computation
time. It is based on the modal description of each substructure. In a real turbine
or compressor blading great differences in the magnitude of the individual blade
amplitudes occur caused by unavoidable mistuning of all system parameters like
contact parameters and natural frequencies of the blades. It may happen that most
of the blades experience only small stresses whereas a few blades experience critical
stresses. Therefore, it is necessary to consider mistuning for all system parameters
to simulate the forced response of bladed disk assemblies with friction contacts.
For a mistuned bladed disk the complete system has to be modeled to calculate
the dynamic response. In practice, usually the standard deviations instead of
the distributions of the system parameters are known. Therefore, Monte-Carlo simulations
are necessary to calculate the forced response of the blades for given mean values
and standard deviations of the system parameters. To reduce the computational
time, an approximate method has been developed and extended for small and moderate
standard deviations of the system parameters to calculate the distribution and
the envelopes of the frequency response functions for statistically varying system
parameters, in the following called statistical mistuning. The approximate method
is based on a sensitivity analysis and the assumption of a Weibull distribution
of the vibration amplitudes of the blades. Both, the approximate method and the
assumption of a Weibull distribution of the vibration amplitudes are validated
by Monte-Carlo simulations. By these investigations the influence of different
arrangements of the system parameters for given mean values and standard deviations
of the vibration amplitudes of the blades can be determined, too. For the present
investigations only a small influence of the arrangement of blades with respect
to their natural frequencies has been observed. On the other hand, an intentional
mistuning of the damper masses and the natural frequencies of the blades in a
systematic way, in the following called systematic mistuning, can be investigated
to reduce the amplitudes of the system. The simulation results of a systematic
mistuning has been validated by a test rig with a rotating bladed disk assembly
with friction dampers. The investigations show a good agreement between the simulations
and the measurements but only a slight decrease of the maximum amplitudes in case

text: Besides to classical research area of bioinformatics, the turn to nature for
solutions to technological questions has brought us many unforeseen great concepts.
This encouraging course seems to hold on for many aspects in technology. Many
efforts were made in the area of computer technology employing mechanisms known
from biological systems. The most known examples are evolutionary algorithms and
the artificial immune system. One application is in network security, e.g. for
the search for viruses and worms, where the immune system was used as an inspiration.In
contrast, the focus of our group lays on trying to map the cellular and molecular
biology to networking architectures. Recently, it was shown that the known approaches
to study effects in computer networking, especially methods to analyze the behavior
of large scale networks suffer from many presumptions. We try to study this behavior
by analyzing the internal functioning of network components as well as there interactions
in comparison with cellular systems and the associated intra and extra cellular
signaling pathways.The main focus of this work is to show the similarities of
computer networks and cellular systems. Based on the knowledge about cellular
metabolism, new concepts for the behavior patterns of routers, monitor systems,
and firewalls can be deduced and the efficiency of individual sub-systems can
be increased. Focusing on examples of hot topics in the computer society, i.e.
network security, potential solutions motivated by cellular behavior are currently
studied and, hopefully, will soon bring new results in these areas.Independently
from these examinations, we try to show the power of our novel approach by introducing
the basic mechanisms and interactions as well as a self-evident application. Doing
this, we must keep in mind that the deeper the parallels between biology and technology,
the more important it is to map the corresponding elements correctly.

text: Autonomous networking has become the buzzword for attempts of building high-scalable
network architectures, which are self-organizing, self-maintaining and self-healing.
Few of these approaches were successful and none has shown to provide all the
promised functions. We try to study the processes in computer networks using molecular
processes as the paradigm. This novel approach shows many similarities between
computer networking and cellular mechanisms. In this paper, we focus on the area
of network security as one research area with high demand for high-scalable mechanisms
providing the needed functionality. After identifying similarities between nature
and technology, we discuss potential research domains, which are high potentials
for learning directly from biology at the example of security attacks in networks.
We see the proposed mechanism as a generic approach for autonomous networking.
The countermeasures against attacks in computer networks are only a special example
to introduce the mechanisms.

text: We present a rigorous but transparent semantics definition of SystemVerilog
that covers processes with blocking and non-blocking statements as well as their
interaction with the simulation scheduler including the management of new SystemVerilog
regions. We present our definition in form of distributed Abstract State Machines
(ASMs) rules reflecting the view given in the SystemVerilog Language Reference
Manual [1]. Our formal semantics is a concise, unambiguous, high-level specification
for SystemVerilog-based implementations and for investigation of interoperabilities
of SystemVerilog with SpecC, SystemC, and VHDL.
