  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>3D printing or additive manufacturing
    (AM) possesses enormous potential to benefit the manufacturing industry. Presently,
    rotary draw bending (RDB) is one of the most commonly used cold-forming industrial
    process for bending metal tubes. Pressure die is a fundamental forming tool in
    RDB processes, and it is conventionally made by various grades of comparatively
    expensive alloy steels. This research presents a novel design of a pressure die
    which can be 3D printed by using inexpensive polymeric filaments. In this research
    paper, the 3D-printed pressure die is named as “FFF-pressure die.” The material
    used to fabricate the FFF-pressure die is a thermoplastic polymer known as “ecoPLA.”
    The mechanical properties of ecoPLA are studied in relation to the process conditions
    of a RDB process. Firstly, an initial feasibility of using the FFF-pressure die
    in a RDB process is obtained by conducting a quick static stress analysis with
    actual process conditions. After initial feasibility, a complete RDB process is
    developed and simulated with actual process conditions and material properties.
    The FFF-pressure die is then practically fabricated by FFF 3D printer and experimentally
    tested on an industrial RDB machine. The results of practical experiments are
    compared with the simulation results. In order to make a comparison of the FFF-pressure
    die with the conventional metal pressure die, the simulation and practical process
    is also conducted with the conventional metal pressure die. A performance and
    cost comparison is made between the polymeric FFF-pressure die and the conventional
    metal pressure die.  Von Mises stresses, contact forces, failure risk, and elastic
    deformations are analyzed. The advantages and limitations of using the FFF-pressure
    die in a RDB process are discussed in the end. This research intends to widen
    the avenue of using cost-effective and lightweight forming tools in metal forming
    industries.</jats:p>

  text: Most FPGA boards in the HPC domain are well-suited for parallel scaling because
    of the direct integration of versatile and high-throughput network ports. However,
    the utilization of their network capabilities is often challenging and error-prone
    because the whole network stack and communication patterns have to be implemented
    and managed on the FPGAs. Also, this approach conceptually involves a trade-off
    between the performance potential of improved communication and the impact of
    resource consumption for communication infrastructure, since the utilized resources
    on the FPGAs could otherwise be used for computations. In this work, we investigate
    this trade-off, firstly, by using synthetic benchmarks to evaluate the different
    configuration options of the communication framework ACCL and their impact on
    communication latency and throughput. Finally, we use our findings to implement
    a shallow water simulation whose scalability heavily depends on low-latency communication.
    With a suitable configuration of ACCL, good scaling behavior can be shown to all
    48 FPGAs installed in the system. Overall, the results show that the availability
    of inter-FPGA communication frameworks as well as the configurability of framework and
    network stack are crucial to achieve the best application performance with low
    latency communication.

  text: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Vapor phase infiltration (VPI) has
    emerged as a promising tool for fabrication of novel hybrid materials. In the
    field of polymeric gas separation membranes, a beneficial impact on stability
    and membrane performance is known for several polymers with differing functional
    groups. This study for the first time investigates VPI of trimethylaluminum (TMA)
    into poly(1‐trimethylsilyl‐1‐propyne) (PTMSP), featuring a carbon–carbon double
    bond as functional group. Saturation of the precursor inside the polymer is already
    attained after 60 s infiltration time leading to significant densification of
    the material. Depth profiling proves accumulation of aluminum in the polymer itself,
    but a significantly increased accumulation is visible in the gradient layer between
    polymer and SiO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> substrate. A reaction pathway is proposed
    and supplemented by density‐functional theory (DFT) calculations. Infrared spectra
    derived from both experiments and simulation support the presented reaction pathway.
    In terms of permeance, a favorable impact on selectivity is observed for infiltration
    times up to 1 s. Longer infiltration times yield greatly reduced permeance values
    close or even below the detection limit of the measurement device. The present
    results of this study set a strong basis for the application of VPI on polymers
    for gas‐barrier and membrane applications in the future.</jats:p>

    with superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic surfaces were prepared using Ti6Al4V

    TiO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> nanofiber-based 3D network was created on the Ti6Al4V
    alloy substrate by application of a hydrothermal method. Subsequent UV-grafting
    of ultra-thin polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layers resulted in a superhydrophobic
    surface. The modification steps were followed via Diffuse Reflectance Infrared
    Fourier Transform Spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Field Emission-Scanning
    Electron Microscopy, contact angle and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy.
    A mechanism for the adsorption of PVAc at the two electrolyte/substrate interfaces
    could be revealed.</jats:p>

  text: The estimation of accurate piezoelectric material parameters is a fundamental
    prerequisite for simulation-driven design of piezoelectric actuators and sensors.
    Previous studies show that a full set of material parameters can be determined
    in an inverse procedure using a single disc-shaped specimen with an electrode
    structured for increased sensitivity with respect to all material parameters.
    However, in the case of high-power actuator applications, ring-shaped piezoelectric
    components are often employed, necessitating an adaptation of the previously developed
    method. The alteration in geometry introduces some advantages. Accordingly, there
    is no longer any requirement to modify the electrode structure in order to enhance
    sensitivity. The method to estimate the material parameters presented here consists
    of a total of three stages. An initial, approximate estimation of the material
    parameters is determined using analytical approximations for the resonance frequencies
    from the IEEE standard. These values are optimised in an inverse procedure that
    employs analytic expressions for the electrical impedance of piezoelectric rings
    as the forward model. Further refinement is achieved by using Finite Element (FE)
    simulations as the forward model again in an inverse procedure. The method is
    applied to electrical impedance measurement data, yielding material parameters
    for hard piezoelectric rings. The result shows a good agreement between the simulation
    and measurement results, indicating realistic material parameter values.

  text: Incremental nonlinear dynamic inversion (INDI) is a widely used approach to
    controlling UAVs with highly nonlinear dynamics. One key element of INDI-based
    controllers is the control allocation realizing pseudo controls using available
    actuators. However, the tracking of commanded pseudo controls is not the only
    objective considered during control allocation. Since the approach only works
    locally due to linearization and the solution is often ambiguous, additional aspects
    like control efforts or penalizing the deviation of certain states must be considered.
    Conducting the control allocation by solving a quadratic program this results
    in a considerable number of weighting parameters, which must be tuned during control
    design. Currently, this is conducted manually and is therefore time consuming.
    An automated approach for tuning these parameters is therefore highly beneficial.
    Thus, this paper presents and evaluates a model-based approach automatically tuning
    the control allocation parameters of a tiltrotor VTOL using an optimization algorithm.
    This optimization algorithm searches for optimal parameters minimizing a cost
    functional that reflects the design target. This cost functional is calculated
    based on a test mission for the VTOL which is conducted within a simulation environment.
    The test mission represents the common operating range of the VTOL. The simulation
    environment consists of an aircraft model as well as a model of the INDI-based
    controller which is dependent on the control allocation parameters. On this basis,
    model-based optimization is conducted and the optimal parameters are identified.
    Finally, successful real-world tests on a 4-degrees-of-freedom testbench using
    the identified parameters are presented. Since the control allocation parameters
    can significantly influence the aircraft’s stability, the 4-DOF testbench for
    the aircraft is required for rapid validation of the parameters at a minimum amount
    of risk.

  text: Manufacturing processes benefit from property control enabling reproducibility,
    application oriented outcomes, and efficient part production. In reverse flow
    forming, state of the art practices focus primarily on geometry control, neglecting
    property control. Given the intricacies of the process involving the interaction
    of tool and machine behavior, process parameters, properties of semi finished
    products and temperatures, incorporating process control becomes an imperative
    for producing components with predefined properties. The property controlled within
    this reverse flow forming process is the local α’ martensite content. Therefore,
    process strategies to actively influence the α’ martensite content must be implemented.
    In this study seamless AISI 304L steel tubes are used, where α’ martensite formation
    is strain  and/or temperature induced through phase transformation within the
    process. This paper presents innovative process strategies, methods, and specially
    developed mechanical and thermal actuator systems to locally increase or suppress
    the α’ martensite content. The use and implementation of these approaches and
    tools allows the creation of unique optically invisible microstructure profiles
    containing 3D gradings, implying a radial grading of α’ martensite. The locally
    implemented α’ martensite, forming these 3D gradings, offers potential applications
    for functional or sensory purposes. This paper extends beyond theoretical concepts,
    providing tangible component outcomes.

  text: "Although there are numerous design and control methodologies for the LLC
    resonant converter,\r\nthey often do not consider decentralized control strategies
    to operate them as isolated DC-DC converters within a\r\ncascaded H-bridge. The
    total output power of all LLC converters must be constant to supply a load such
    as a wa-\r\nter electrolyzer. However, each individual LLC converter can vary
    its output power as long as the total output\r\npower remains constant. This opens
    new possibilities in increasing the system efficiency and robustness. Usually,\r\nthe
    DC-link voltage of each module capacitor shows a 2nd harmonic voltage ripple.
    However, the total stored energy\r\nin all DC-link capacitors is constant within
    a grid period for a balanced three-phase system. By controlling each\r\nLLC converter’s
    output power locally to be proportional to the energy stored in its DC-link capacitor,
    modules with\r\na lower instantaneous DC-link voltage transfer less power to the
    load than modules with a higher DC-link voltage.\r\nAs a result, a higher efficiency,
    voltage gain and lower peak resonant capacitor voltage can be achieved with the\r\nsame
    components. The 22.2kW experimental prototype of the LLC converter reaches an
    efficiency of over 97% at\r\nresonance which is similar to the precalculated value."

  text: Based on the surface equivalence principle an equivalent near-field source
    can be determined by measurements with a near-field scanner. One application is
    to use the source to simulate the interferences of the device-under-test with
    other objects in its close environment. Due to a limited signal-to-noise ratio
    in practical applications, noise adds to the near-field source. Hence, noise effects
    affect the quality of the simulation results and cause uncertainties. The influence
    of the noise effects is investigated by a simulative approach with artificially
    added noise. Two test devices with different a geometric dimension, operating
    frequency and excited power are evaluated for different characteristics and signal-to-noise
    ratios to assess the impact of the simulation results. Finally, in a combined
    simulation an equivalent near-field source will disturb an IoT-device and the
    voltages at two resistors on the device are examined.

  text: CPO‐27 is a metal‐organic framework (MOF) with coordinatively unsaturated
    metal centers (open metal sites). It is therefore an ideal host material for small
    guest molecules, including water. This opens up numerous possible applications,
    such as proton conduction, humidity sensing, water harvesting, or adsorption‐driven
    heat pumps. For all of these applications, profound knowledge of the adsorption
    and desorption of water in the micropores is mandatory. The hydration and water
    structure in CPO‐27‐M (M = Zn or Cu) is investigated using water vapor sorption,
    Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, density functional theory (DFT)
    calculations, and molecular dynamics simulation. In the pores of CPO‐27‐Zn, water
    binds as a ligand to the Zn center. Additional water molecules are stepwise incorporated
    at defined positions, forming a network of H‐bonds with the framework and with
    each other. In CPO‐27‐Cu, hydration proceeds by an entirely different mechanism.
    Here, water does not coordinate to the metal center, but only forms H‐bonds with
    the framework; pore filling occurs mostly in a single step, with the open metal
    site remaining unoccupied. Water in the pores forms clusters with extensive intra‐cluster
    H‐bonding.

  text: '<jats:p>This study evaluates four widely used fracture simulation methods,
    comparing their computational expenses and implementation complexities within
    the finite element (FE) framework when employed on heterogeneous solids. Fracture
    methods considered encompass the intrinsic cohesive zone model (CZM) using zero-thickness
    cohesive interface elements (CIEs), the standard phase-field fracture (SPFM) approach,
    the cohesive phase-field fracture (CPFM) approach, and an innovative hybrid model.
    The hybrid approach combines the CPFM fracture method with the CZM, specifically
    applying the CZM within the interface zone. The finite element model studied is
    characterized by three specific phases: inclusions, matrix, and the interface
    zone. This case study serves as a potential template for meso- or micro-level
    simulations involving a variety of composite materials. The thorough assessment
    of these modeling techniques indicates that the CPFM approach stands out as the
    most effective computational model, provided that the thickness of the interface
    zone is not significantly smaller than that of the other phases. In materials
    like concrete, which contain interfaces within their microstructure, the interface
    thickness is notably small when compared to other phases. This leads to the hybrid
    model standing as the most authentic finite element model, utilizing CIEs within
    the interface to simulate interface debonding. A significant finding from this
    investigation is that within the CPFM method, for a specific interface thickness,
    convergence with the hybrid model can be observed. This suggests that the CPFM
    fracture method could serve as a unified fracture approach for multiphase materials
    when a specific interfacial thickness is used. In addition, this research provides
    valuable insights that can advance efforts to fine-tune material microstructures.
    An investigation of the influence of interfacial material properties, voids, and
    the spatial arrangement of inclusions shows a pronounced effect of these parameters
    on the fracture toughness of the material.</jats:p>'

    athletes some control over a training session facilitates motor skill acquisition.
    This is a promising concept to use in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury
    prevention, as the key for risk reduction is to improve quality of movement. The
    goal of this study was to better understand why improved motor learning occurred
    when football players had the opportunity to choose when to receive feedback when
    practicing sidestep cutting (SSC) movements. Healthy male recreational football
    players (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">n</jats:italic> = 22, 22.9 ± 1.7 years, 185.5
    ± 7.2 cm, 79.3 ± 9.2 kg) were included and assigned to the self-control (SC) or
    the yoked (YK) group. The players performed anticipated and unanticipated SSC.
    They received video instructions and were instructed to “copy the movement of
    the model to the best of their ability.” During the training blocks, the SC group
    could ask for feedback, whereas the YK group could not. Cutting movement assessment
    scores (CMAS) were measured to test quality of movement and the Intrinsic Motivation
    Inventory was administered to measure constructs of motivation. In the anticipated
    condition, SC group showed better scores in immediate post and the retention test
    compared with pretest (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p</jats:italic> &lt; 0.001),
    whereas the YK group showed worse scores in the retention test compared with immediate
    posttest (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p</jats:italic> = 0.001). Perceived competence
    (<jats:italic toggle=\"yes\">p</jats:italic> = 0.017) and self-efficacy (<jats:italic
    toggle=\"yes\">p</jats:italic> = 0.032) were consistent factors that correlated
    with improved CMAS in the SC group. This has given us innovative insights into
    underlying mechanisms optimizing the quality of movement, necessary to improve
    current ACL injury prevention approaches.</jats:p>"

    <jats:p>The addition of visual attention during sidestep cutting altered lower
    limb kinematics, which may increase ACL injury risk. It is suggested that ACL
    injury risk screening and prevention should include sidestep cutting with visual
    attentional demands, in order to mimic the cognitive demands of the sports environment.</jats:p>
