text: '
Abstract
Trend analyses based on dietary
records suggest decreases in the intakes of total sugar (TS), added and free sugar
since 2005 among children and adolescents in Germany. In terms of age trends,
TS intake decreased with increasing age. However, self-reported sugar intake in
epidemiological studies is criticised, as it may be prone to bias due to selective
underreporting. Furthermore, adolescents are more susceptible to underreporting
than children. We thus analysed time and age trends in urinary fructose excretion
(FE), sucrose excretion (SE) and the sum of both (FE + SE) as biomarkers for sugar
intake among 8·5–16·5-year-old adolescents. Urinary sugar excretion was measured
by UPLC-MS/MS in 997 24-h urine samples collected from 239 boys and 253 girls
participating in the Dortmund Nutritional and Anthropometric Longitudinally Designed
(DONALD) study cohort between 1990 and 2016. Time and age trends of log-transformed
FE, SE and FE + SE were analysed using polynomial mixed-effects regression models.
Between 1990 and 2016, FE as well as FE + SE decreased (linear time trend: P
= 0·0272 and P < 0·0001, respectively). A minor
increase in excretion during adolescence was confined to FE (linear age trend:
P = 0·0017). The present 24-h excretion measurements
support a previously reported dietary record-based decline in sugar intake since
2005. However, the previously seen dietary record-based decrease in TS from childhood
to late adolescence was not confirmed by our biomarker analysis, suggesting a
constant sugar intake for the period of adolescence.
'

text: 'In modern lightweight designs, it is important to find a compromise between
the strength and the weight of the construction detail. Hence, hybrid structures
made of aluminum and steel materials are increasingly being used in automotive
applications. Due to limitations in the quality of resistance spot welding, self-piercing
riveting can be used as an alternative process to join sheets from different material
groups. The aim of this project is to develop a computational method to assess
the self-piercing riveted components subjected to the cyclic loads. To achieve
this goal, two approaches are followed: Evaluation unsing internal forces: A substitute
model is developed to describe the stiffness of self-piercing riveted joints subjected
to different loading conditions. The parameters of the substitute model are identified
and the internal force components acting on the joint are evaluated. The model
provides the basis for the subsequent fatigue life estimation of self-piercing
riveted components. For joints subjected to low bending moments, the fatigue life
of components can be estimated accurately. Due to lack of specimen geometries
producing pure bending and the combination of tension-bending forces, it is not
possible to estimate the fatigue life of complex components subjected to high
bending moments. Based on the results of [Mesc 16], the methodology is further
developed to determine the stresses acting on the joint and to characterize the
joining point with the use of simulations. The local concept proposed in the FKM
guideline nonlinear provides the basis for the analytical assessment of self-piercing
riveted components. In this regard, the cyclic behavior of the material and the
local stresses are required as input data. The cyclic behavior of the aluminum
EN AW-6181A-T6 and steel HX340LAD sheets were already determined in the previous
project. Subsequently, in this project the properties of the rivet made of 38B2
steel are identified. The finite element analysis using elastic-plastic material
behavior is used to determine the stresses in the joint subjected to the cyclic
loads. To verify the model, the results of simulations and experiments are compared
concerning the crack initiation zone as well as the determined number of cycles.
To determine the stresses that can be used for the analytical assessment, the
damage relevant load components need to be identified. In this regard, it is recommended
to use the normal stress perpendicular to the crack propagation direction, the
stress of crack opening mode I. Using the damage parameter PRAM and considering
the support factors according to the FKM guideline nonlinear, a reliable estimation
of the crack initiation zone within the joint is possible. Regarding the joint
made of aluminum sheet EN AW-6181A, the methodology is able to provide promising
results. However, regarding the joints made of aluminum EN AW-6181A and steel
HX340LAD sheets, there is still potential to improve the results. The reasons
for this are described in chapter 7.2.5 and 7.2.6. An analytical fatigue assessment
is relatively easy to achieve with procedure 1. However, contrary to the objective
formulated above, expensive fatigue tests are necessary to determine the failure
conditions (strength values). This disadvantage can be circumvented by determining
the strength information of individual joining points under different load types
using procedure 2. The latter, in return, is not suitable for the assessment of
complex components with several joining points. Due to the increasing calculation
times of the simulation, the application in this case is not economically reasonable.
By the described combination of method 1 and 2, the disadvantages of the two individual
concepts can be compensated. An analytical fatigue assessment of self-piercing
riveted components can be carried out based on the cyclic material behavior. The
objective of the project was achieved.'

erreicht. Das IGF-Vorhaben „Simulationsbasierte Betriebsfestigkeitsanalyse stanzgenieteter

text: "
Digital data on tangible and intangible cultural assets is an essential
part of daily life, communication and experience. It has a lasting influence on
the perception of cultural identity as well as on the interactions between research,
the cultural economy and society. Throughout the last three decades, many cultural
heritage institutions have contributed a wealth of digital representations of
cultural assets (2D digital reproductions of paintings, sheet music, 3D digital
models of sculptures, monuments, rooms, buildings), audio-visual data (music,
film, stage performances), and procedural research data such as encoding and annotation
formats. The long-term preservation and FAIR availability of research data from
the cultural heritage domain is fundamentally important, not only for future academic
success in the humanities but also for the cultural identity of individuals and
society as a whole. Up to now, no coordinated effort for professional research
data management on a national level exists in Germany. NFDI4Culture aims to fill
this gap and create a user-centered, research-driven infrastructure that will
cover a broad range of research domains from musicology, art history and architecture
to performance, theatre, film, and media studies.
\r\n
The
research landscape addressed by the consortium is characterized by strong institutional
differentiation. Research units in the consortium's community of interest comprise
university institutes, art colleges, academies, galleries, libraries, archives
and museums. This diverse landscape is also characterized by an abundance of research
objects, methodologies and a great potential for data-driven research. In a unique
effort carried out by the applicant and co-applicants of this proposal and ten
academic societies, this community is interconnected for the first time through
a federated approach that is ideally suited to the needs of the participating
researchers. To promote collaboration within the NFDI, to share knowledge and
technology and to provide extensive support for its users have been the guiding
principles of the consortium from the beginning and will be at the heart of all
workflows and decision-making processes. Thanks to these principles, NFDI4Culture
has gathered strong support ranging from individual researchers to high-level
cultural heritage organizations such as the UNESCO, the International Council
of Museums, the Open Knowledge Foundation and Wikimedia. On this basis, NFDI4Culture
will take innovative measures that promote a cultural change towards a more reflective
and sustainable handling of research data and at the same time boost qualification
and professionalization in data-driven research in the domain of cultural heritage.
This will create a long-lasting impact on science, cultural economy and society
as a whole.
"

text: This study presents a model in which heterogenous, risk-averse agents can
use either (legal) tax optimisation or (illegal) tax evasion to reduce their tax
burden and thus increase their utility. In addition to introducing individual
variables like risk aversion or income, we allow agents to observe the behaviour
of their neighbours. Depending on the behaviour of their peer group’s members,
the agents’ utilities may increase or decrease, respectively. Simulation results
show that taxpayers favour illegal evasion over legal optimisation in most cases.
We find that interactions between taxpayers and their social networks have a deep
impact on aggregate behaviour. Parameter changes such as increasing audit rates
affect the results, often being intensified by social interactions. The effect
of such changes varies depending on whether or not a fraction of agents is considered
inherently honest.

text: "We consider a resource-aware variant of the classical multi-armed bandit\r\nproblem:
In each round, the learner selects an arm and determines a resource\r\nlimit.
It then observes a corresponding (random) reward, provided the (random)\r\namount
of consumed resources remains below the limit. Otherwise, the\r\nobservation is
censored, i.e., no reward is obtained. For this problem setting,\r\nwe introduce
a measure of regret, which incorporates the actual amount of\r\nallocated resources
of each learning round as well as the optimality of\r\nrealizable rewards. Thus,
to minimize regret, the learner needs to set a\r\nresource limit and choose an
arm in such a way that the chance to realize a\r\nhigh reward within the predefined
resource limit is high, while the resource\r\nlimit itself should be kept as low
as possible. We derive the theoretical lower\r\nbound on the cumulative regret
and propose a learning algorithm having a regret\r\nupper bound that matches the
lower bound. In a simulation study, we show that\r\nour learning algorithm outperforms
straightforward extensions of standard\r\nmulti-armed bandit algorithms."

text: Using near-field (NF) scan data to predict the far-field (FF) behaviour of
radiating electronic systems represents a novel method to accompany the whole
RF design process. This approach involves so-called Huygens' box as an efficient
radiation model inside an electromagnetic (EM) simulation tool and then transforms
the scanned NF measured data into the FF. For this, the basic idea of the Huygens'box
principle and the NF-to-FF transformation are briefly presented. The NF is measured
on the Huygens' box around a device under test using anNF scanner, recording the
magnitude and phase of the site-related magnetic and electric components. A comparison
between a fullwave simulation and the measurement results shows a good similarity
in both the NF and the simulated and transformed FF.Thus, this method is applicable
to predict the FF behaviour of any electronic system by measuring the NF. With
this knowledge, the RF design can be improved due to allowing a significant reduction
of EM compatibility failure at the end of the development flow. In addition, the
very efficient FF radiation model can be used for detailed investigations in various
environments and the impact of such an equivalent radiation source on other electronic
systems can be assessed.

text:
In this article, we focus on the acceleration of a chemical reaction
simulation that relies on a system of stiff ordinary differential equation (ODEs)
targeting heterogeneous computing systems with CPUs and field-programmable gate
arrays (FPGAs). Specifically, we target an essential kernel of the coupled chemistry
aerosol-tracer transport model to the Brazilian developments on the regional atmospheric
modeling system (CCATT-BRAMS). We focus on a linear solve step using the QR factorization
based on the modified Gram-Schmidt method as the basis of the ODE solver in this
application. We target Intel hardware accelerator research program (HARP) architecture
with the OpenCL programming environment for these early experiments. Our design
exploration reveals a hardware design that is up to 4 times faster than the original
iterative Jacobi method used in this solver. Still, even with hardware support,
the overall performance of our QR-based hardware is lower than its original software
version.

text: '
Grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) has become
an increasingly popular technique for quantitative structural characterization
and comparison of thin films. For this purpose, accurate intensity normalization
and peak position determination are crucial. At present, few tools exist to estimate
the uncertainties of these measurements. Here, a simulation package is introduced
called GIWAXS-SIIRkit, where SIIR stands for scattering
intensity, indexing and refraction. The package contains several tools that are
freely available for download and can be executed in MATLAB. The package includes
three functionalities: estimation of the relative scattering intensity and the
corresponding uncertainty based on experimental setup and sample dimensions; extraction
and indexing of peak positions to approximate the crystal structure of organic
materials starting from calibrated GIWAXS patterns; and analysis of the effects
of refraction on peak positions. Each tool is based on a graphical user interface
and designed to have a short learning curve. A user guide is provided with detailed
usage instruction, tips for adding functionality and customization, and exemplary
files.
'

text: "Regarding the design of single screw extruders, the prediction of the throughput
needs to be of high accuracy. The calculation of the solids conveying throughput
is particularly important for extruders with a grooved feed section. In contrast
to smooth barrel extruders the throughput of the entire plant is determined at
the feed section. Various simplifications are necessary for an analytical modelling
of the solids conveying, e.g. the classification into conveying cases, the assumption
of solid block flow and the assumption of pressure anisotropy coefficients. In
numerical simulations with the Discrete Element Method (DEM), which has recently
been successfully used to describe solids conveying in smooth barrel extruders,
the simplifications mentioned above are not taken into account. Here, the pellets
are approximated as spherical particles or particles composed of spheres. Based
on virtual overlaps, contact models and the solution of Newton's equations of
motion, a more complex consideration of the pellet flow is possible. In each iteration
step of the simulation, the particle velocities, contact forces and derived quantities,
e.g. the mass throughput in the screw channel and the grooves or the radial pressure
build-up along the grooved barrel can be evaluated. Therefore, a DEM simulation
model can be investigated by means of statistical design of experiments in order
to convert the target values into a metamodel by regression. Long computation
times of numerical simulations will be avoided in this matter as well as too simple
assumptions of analytical approaches. The influencing parameters to be simulated
are divided into material, geometry and process parameters. Relevant material
parameters are the coefficients of friction of the polymer-polymer and polymer-steel
surface as well as the restitution coefficient and the particle diameter. The
geometry is varied in the form of the screw diameter, the channel depth and pitch,
the number of grooves and their width, depth and angle. By varying the angle,
both conventional axial grooves and helical grooves are taken into account. Finally,
the process parameters speed and backpressure are also considered in the simulations.
In order to reduce the simulation effort, irrelevant parameters are identified
in preliminary investigations.\r\n"
